Abstract

Pursuing education abroad has become popular among Vietnamese students for personal growth, financial stability, and career advancement. However, the decision to study abroad is not purely based on individual or familial choices. External factors such as cultural, social, economic, political, foreign relations, and educational factors within Vietnam also play a significant role. Through an analysis of relevant studies and literature, this paper provides valuable insights into the dynamics contributing to the increasing trend of Vietnamese students transitioning towards international education.

Abstract

In the face of accelerating climate change, the tourism industry must adopt sustainable practices to mitigate its environmental impact and promote long-term resilience. This paper explores the critical role of education in fostering sustainable tourism within the context of climate change. It examines the current educational frameworks and their efficacy in imparting knowledge about sustainable tourism practices. The research highlights the importance of integrating climate change awareness into tourism education to create a well-informed workforce capable of implementing and advocating sustainable strategies. The findings suggest that comprehensive education on sustainable tourism is aligned with climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. The paper concludes with recommendations for policymakers, educators, industry leaders, and the local community to collaborate in developing robust educational initiatives that promote sustainable tourism practices in the era of climate change.

Abstract

Abstract. Nhan P, Tri NM. 2025. Dietary lotus seed powder enhances semen quality and storage stability in Mia roosters. Asian J Agric 9: 598-606. Semen quality, a key determinant of reproductive efficiency in poultry, plays a crucial role in breeding programs and in the conservation of indigenous genetic resources. Natural dietary supplements with antioxidant activity may improve sperm function and preservation. Lotus seed powder (Nelumbinis semen) is rich in bioactive compounds with antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing properties, but its effects on avian reproduction remain unexplored. This study represents the first report in avian species evaluating the impact of dietary lotus seed powder supplementation on semen quality and storage stability in Mia roosters, a Vietnamese indigenous breed. Thirty healthy roosters (10-11 months) were fed either a control diet or diets supplemented with 2% or 4% lotus seed powder for 60 days. Semen was collected every three days and assessed for volume, concentration, motility parameters, morphology, viability, membrane integrity, and chilled storage stability (0-24 h at 4°C). Compared with the control (C), T2 showed higher semen volume (0.48±0.05 mL vs 0.42±0.05 mL), sperm concentration (3.47±0.27×109/mL vs 3.21±0.26×109/mL), VSL (46.25±3.15 µm/s vs 42.35±3.12 µm/s), and viability (91.03±2.68% vs 87.46±2.85%). Abnormal morphology decreased from 9.84±1.21% in C to 8.15±1.12% in T2. Motility after 24 h storage remained higher in T2 (63.20±4.15%) compared with C (51.81±4.91%). Dietary lotus seed powder, particularly at 4% inclusion, significantly improves semen quality by enhancing sperm motility, viability, and membrane integrity, while also prolonging chilled storage stability in Mia roosters. These outcomes underscore its potential as a natural reproductive enhancer with applications in Artificial Insemination (AI) and the conservation of indigenous poultry genetic resources.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a common cause of dermatological, wound, and reproductive tract infections in companion animals, and its increasing antimicrobial resistance poses challenges for effective treatment. Data on resistance patterns in small animals in the Mekong Delta remain limited. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of S. aureus in clinical samples from dogs and cats and to characterize the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of the isolates. Clinical samples were collected from dogs and cats showing signs of infection at veterinary clinics in Vinh Long Province, Vietnam. S. aureus was isolated using Mannitol Salt Agar and identified by standard biochemical tests. Antimicrobial susceptibility was determined using the Kirby–Bauer disk diffusion method according to CLSI guidelines. Of the 32 clinical specimens examined, 62.5% were positive for S. aureus. The prevalence was higher in dogs than in cats and higher in females than in males. Skin exudates accounted for the largest proportion of positive samples. Among the 60 isolates tested, resistance to ampicillin was highest at 90%. Increased resistance was also observed for erythromycin and trimethoprim–sulfamethoxazole. Susceptibility remained moderate to high for chloramphenicol, tetracycline, and levofloxacin. Multidrug resistance was common, with 22% of isolates resistant to ≥6 antibiotics. S. aureus is a frequent pathogen in small-animal clinical cases in Vinh Long Province and shows considerable resistance to commonly used antibiotics. The high rate of multidrug resistance highlights the need for routine culture and susceptibility testing and supports the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship in veterinary practice.

Abstract

This paper investigates how the indigenous community of Kampung Naga, West Java, Indonesia uses cultural communication techniques to preserve a traditional way of life under growing modern challenges. The study reveals five main themes by means of a qualitative phenomenological approach and thematic analysis: value inheritance through role modelling, symbolic communication in cultural practices, selective adaptation to modern culture, ecological and spiritual relationships with nature, and the role of social rituals in maintaining cultural identity. In-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving nine informants-elders, birth attendants, women, youth, and returnees from metropolitan areas-data were gathered. The results indicate that instead of passive preservation, the Kampung Naga community maintains its way of life by means of a dynamic process of cultural negotiation. Daily activities and intergenerational role models help people to assimilate cultural beliefs rather than formal education. Symbols like holy woods, birth ceremonies, and bans on power use are communicative devices mediating identity, spirituality, and resistance. These techniques mirror socio-cultural, semiotic, and phenomenological communication traditions in which meaning is manifested in action and group memory
