Abstract

Consumers around the world want fruits with high quality, without chemical preservatives, and with an extended shelf life. Edible films and coating received a considerable amount of attention in recent years because they are useful and beneficial over synthetic packaging. Prolonging of shelf life of food is an important goal to be attained. Many storage techniques have been adapted to extend the marketing distance and holding periods for commodities after harvest. Edible coatings are thin layers of edible material applied to the product surface to provide a barrier to moisture, oxygen, and solute movement for food. The purpose of this study was to produce bio-synthesized ZnO Nano-particles from spinach. The coating solution is prepared by mixing Nano-particles with chitosan-acetic acid solution and evaluates the shelf-life after treatment as a coating. The study showed that coated fruit maintained its quality up to 28 days of the study period. Thus, it can be concluded that ZnO Nano-particles can be used as a coating for increasing shelf-life.

Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the level of medication adherence and diabetic knowledge among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in Jeli District, Kelantan, Malaysia. This cross-sectional study was done from February to July 2019 by giving a questionnaire to 150 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients aged 40-80 years at three primary health cares in Jeli District, Kelantan, Malaysia. The quantitative descriptive method was used in this study. The findings of this study revealed that knowledge was significantly related to poor adherence. When sex, history of diabetes, and education were accounted for, patients with low diabetic knowledge had an odds ratio of 4.53 for poor adherence compared to those with high knowledge (adj 95% CI (1.92-10.69), p-value = 0.001). To achieve the goal of regulating diabetes management in primary health care, a clinical supervision program should be implemented to improve staff competence in diabetes management and to empower patients through self-management.

Abstract

Background: The quality of COVID-19 data from surveillance information systems is still an issue in low-middle-income countries (LMIC), including Indonesia, which uses various applications that have the potential to affect surveillance performance. Purpose: To explore the procedures and obstacles to using various digital surveillance applications at Public Health Centers (PHCs) in Indonesia. Methods: Qualitative research with exploratory studies was used.  The setting was in the PHC in Kuningan, Majalengka, and Indramayu, City of Cirebon, Indonesia, with surveillance officer participants and contact tracer data manager, as many as 8.  Data was collected by interviewing and using snowball sampling techniques between May 12 and 20, 2022. Data were analyzed using content analysis. Results: The initial data collection procedure involves obtaining data from various health facilities.  Data recording was with SILACAK and the New All-Recorded application.  Data analysis with descriptive epidemiology was reported to the head.  Data quality was achieved with monitoring.  Obstacles in data collection were rejection, community paradigm, and fear. The obstacles of the application are maintenance, not immediately updating that day, not entering at that time, sometimes it does not run smoothly, there are no tools for visualization, and data distribution per place not yet available. Conclusion: In COVID-19 surveillance procedures, from initial data collection, data recording, data analysis, data reporting, and data quality assurance, there are obstacles to data collection in the community and to applications used for surveillance. The District Health Office must compile new procedures that include data management stages, epidemiological data analysis, and visualization.
