Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

An achievement in sport is one of the benchmarks of success of every athlete. One of the causes of the performance degradation is fatigue due to the formation of lactic acid. Supplements are proved to improve the performance in athletes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of citrulline supplementation on lactic acid levels and oxygen saturation on submaximal physical activity. Fatigue can be seen from lactic acid levels in subjects who have performed physical activity. This research method used randomized group pretest postest group design. The subjects used were male students of pencak silat airlangga university, and divided into two groups. The first group was given placebo and the second group was given citrulline. Each group was given the same treatment of three minutes of submaximal physical activity using an ergocycle. Before and after doing the activity the blood lactic acid and oxygen saturation of the subject was checked. The result of the data showed that lactic acid and oxygen saturation in both groups had p<0,05. Citrulline supplementation had effect on lactic acid and oxygen saturation. The results of the research showed that the group given with citrulline had significant effect on lactic acid and oxygen saturation before and after treatment.

Abstract

The eccentric contraction has been proven to improve Glut-1 expression in muscle and fasting glucose levels in mice. The same eccentric contraction occurs in human being when walking or running while wearing high heels. Innovation on the eccentric contraction with high heels can be done by using a specific shoe insole. The design of the rear insole is made thicker than the front. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of insole use specified for eccentric activities on daily work shoes on the skeletal muscle damage after wearing the specified insole. Skeletal muscle damage was measured based on sTnI level. This was experimental study with pretest-posttest design. The subjects involved were non-diabetic woman workers in Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Airlangga, and were divided into two groups. Each group represented group members who wore 5-degree and 10-degree insoles respectively. The angle used for the shoe insoles were 5° and 10° respectively. These insoles were worn on weekdays for one week. Blood was taken one day after the subjects stop wearing the insoles. Data results showed that the levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG) of subjects who wore the 10-degree insole had a value of p<0.05. The use of insole lead to decreased levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG). This study found that the sTnI levels in the 5-degree and 10-degree insole groups had no significant effect on troponin I skeletal muscle levels before and after treatment.

Abstract

Diabetes is a metabolic syndrome which characterized with insulin insensitivity, lack of GLUT-4 membrane presentation and ATP deficiency. ATP is needed for substrate phosphorylation, signalling pathways, protein translation and cellular survival. Since GLUT-1 was discovered as alternative glucose transporter on muscle membrane, some studies started to investigate it more. This study aimed to investigate GLUT-1 presentation on diabetes muscle membrane of rat model in time. Diabetes was obtained from a 50 mg/kg B.W of streptozotocin intra peritoneal injection on rat. We found that GLUT-1 presentation increased significantly in time of diabetic stages. It correlated negatively with GLUT-4 presentation and mortality. Eccentric downhill running on diabetic rat model improved GLUT-1 presentation and blood glucose level. It was promising for diabetes management therapy at the future.
