Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease affecting 95% of diabetics, characterized by high blood glucose levels due to decreased insulin production. Bioactive chemicals from plants like butterfly pea flower and Clitoria Ternatea can potentially treat DM, inhibit carbohydrate-digesting enzymes, and potentially regenerate pancreatic beta cells. This study tests butterfly pea flower extract on obesity-related pancreatic function in white rats. In obese rats given varied dosages of butterfly pea flower extract, the study evaluates pancreatic tissue histopathology and ethanol extract properties. The study examines male Wistar rats' acclimatization before treatment with butterfly pea flower extract, a high-fat diet, and butterfly pea flower extract, comparing the effects of the extract on rats. Pancreatic function is examined using enzymes amylase and lipase. Histopathological observation of pancreatic organs involves several steps, including fixation, washing, infiltration, embedding, cutting, attaching, deparaffinization, dealcoholization, staining, mounting, and scoring. A post-test-only control group design compared butterfly pea flower extract and pancreatic function in male white rats. Butterfly pea flower extract improved pancreatic histology in obese white rats at 600mg/KgWB, closer to the normal group. The extract contains secondary metabolites that repair cell tissue damaged by the rats' high-fat diet and obesity.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of work commitment and motivation on nurse performance at Muyang Kute Regional General Hospital, Bener Meriah Regency, Indonesia, using an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design. A total sampling of 49 nurses from inpatient wards participated in the study. Data were collected via questionnaires measuring work commitment (Guttman scale), work motivation (Guttman scale), and nurse performance (Likert scale). Bivariate analysis using Fisher’s Exact Test revealed a significant association between both work commitment and nurse performance (p = 0.000) and work motivation and nurse performance (p = 0.003). Nurses with high commitment demonstrated significantly higher performance, with 81.8% exhibiting high performance compared to 25.9% of nurses with low commitment. Similarly, nurses with high work motivation showed significantly higher performance, with 70.4% categorized as high performers compared to 27.3% of those with low motivation. These findings highlight the critical role of work commitment and motivation in enhancing nurse performance, suggesting that interventions aimed at improving these factors could lead to significant improvements in healthcare delivery at Muyang Kute Hospital. The study underscores the importance of addressing factors that influence nurse commitment and motivation to optimize patient outcomes and organizational success.

Abstract

Background: Mandibular morphology is a key aspect of antropometry and dentistry, reflecting anatomic variations influenced by genetic, ethnic, and environmental factors. Parameters such as bigonial width, gonial angle, and antegonial angle serve as primary indicators in mandibular morphometric analysis, with applications in orthodontics, maxillofacial surgery, and forensic identification. Population-based morphometric data for local Indonesian groups remain limited. This study addresses this gap by examining mandibular characteristics in Batak and Chinese ethnic groups. This study aimed to compare bigonial width, gonial angle, and antegonial angle between Batak and Chinese groups using panoramic radiographs. Methods: This cross-sectional, observational, analytic study included 50 subjects (25 Batak and 25 Chinese) at RSGM Prima. Measurements were performed with ImageJ software and analyzed using Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, and independent t-test.  Results: No statistically significant differences were found in gonial angle (p=0.665), antegonial angle (p=0.218), or bigonial width (p=0.328) between the groups.  Conclusion: No significant differences exist in gonial angle, antegonial angle, or bigonial width between Batak and Chinese groups. Mandibular morphometric variations are not determined solely by ethnicity. These parameters should be integrated with other anthropologic markers and primary identification methods for greater accuracy in clinical and forensic applications.
