Abstract

Diagenesis studies in the Jatiluhur Formation are still relatively new, especially in the Cipamingkis River. This research can provide information in the form of components and characteristics of sandstone in the Jatiluhur Formation which can be used as a basis for further research or useful information in the oil and gas industry. Knowledge of diagenetic could be one of the factors that affect in raservoir quality, espesially in sandstone. In this study, data collection was carried out through surface mapping, which is 55 rock samples were obtained from stratigraphic measuring section with a path length of ±2 Km in the Cipamingkis River. The data is in the form of information on sedimentarry structure, textures and composition. There were 23 sandstone and 2 limestone samples which were then subjected to petrographic analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results of study are several features of diagenesis were found including compaction that works in the form of point contact, long contact, concavo-convex contact and suture contact and dominated by mechanical compaction, while in limestone there is a brittle fracture feature in bioclasts. The cement found in the form of calcite cement, quartz and clay minerals that the form of kaolinite, smectite and illite, while the limestone is in the form of blocky and fibrous to bleded which is filled with calcite minerals. Dissolution occurs in the minerals of quartz, feldspar, and mica. The mineral replacement that is commonly found occurs in quartz and feldspar minerals. In limestone, there is an intergranular micritization. The dominant type of porosity found was interparticle with an average of 10.4% found between 3 – 23%. The history of diagenesis that occurs in rocks in the Jatiluhur Formation begins with the initial deposition of eogenesis, followed by burial mesogenesis and ends with telogenesis which reveals rocks on the surface.

Abstract

Coal is one of the largest commodities used to produce electrical energy in Indonesia. As considered that coal is non-renewable energy, it is important to find new potential sources of coal. Exploration was carried out in the Jangga area, Batang Hari Regency, Jambi Province. It was an early stage exploration activity carried out by Center for Mineral, Coal dan Geothermal Resources, which consists of two activities, namely surface geological mapping and core drilling. After that, data processing was carried out to determine the 3D coal seam model and estimate the potential of coal. Two main rock units can be observed from geological mapping, namely sandstone and claystone units. Three coal outcrops were also found. Drilling activities were carried out at four locations, namely MK-01, MK-02, MK-03, and MK-04. Coal seam modeling and potential estimation were carried out using MineScape 5.7 software. From the results of the drilling data, there are 8 coal seams that can be modeled with supporting data in the form of coal outcrop data. The estimation of coal potential in this study refers to the exploration target group and the coal inventory group. From the estimation results, it is known that the minimum total exploration target is 1,158,822.74 tons and the maximum is 4,208,379.08 tons. Meanwhile, the total estimated coal potential in the inferred inventory group is 12,916,775.7 tons and the indicated inventory is 9,296,304.45 tons.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Early Miocene Kujung I Formation in KE-2 Field is a shelf edge barrier reef on North Madura Platform, East Java Basin. It was subsequently modified in near surface and burial diagenetic environments. Study has been made to establish the paragenetic sequence and effect of diagenesis on reservoir quality. Rock type identification was conducted using Rock Quality Index (RQI) and Flow Zone Indicator (FZI) methods from routine core analysis data. Subsequently, thin section, SEM, and XRD analysis were carried out to find out the link between geological attributes and petrophysical properties. Five major facies were identified: skeletal packstone, larger foraminifera wackestone, larger foraminifera packstone, coral packstone, shale, rhodolithic packstone, rhodolithic grainstone, and larger foraminifera grainstone. Diagenetic process which formed pore type and pore size is likely geological attributes controlling rock type association. Fibrous and botryoidal cement formed during shallow marine diagenesis. Subsequent exposure to a meteoric diagenetic environment resulting in leaching of high Mg calcite and aragonite, created separate vugs, moldic porosity. Burial diagenesis has resulted in compaction and stylolitization. Post burial diagenesis may result touching-vugs porosity and permeability, primarily in grain-dominated facies. Studied interval then can be classified into 5 rock type (RT), those are RT A – touching vugs porosity, RT B – touching vugs dan separate vugs, RT C – interparticle and separate vugs, RT D – separate vugs porosity, RT E – interparticle and separate vugs porosity. The rock type could define the reservoir quality, thus important to further exploration and development planning in KE-2 Field.
