Abstract

A physically asymmetric reflectarray element has been proposed for wide band operations. The dual resonant response has been introduced by tilting one side of the square path element. The numerical results have been analyzed in the frequency band between 24GHz to 28GHz where a reflection phase range of more than 600° has been achieved. The proposed asymmetric element can produce mutual coupling with adjacent elements on a reflectarray. This effect has been monitored by placing the elements in a mirror configuration on the surface of reflectarray. The single unit cell element results have been compared with conventional 4 element unit cell and proposed mirroring element configuration. The proposed mirroring element technique can be used to design a broadband reflectarray for high gain applications.

Abstract

This paper describes the application of several types of materials to act as capacitive plates in a Capacitive Power Transfer (CPT) system. In general, the efficiency of CPT system is greatly influenced by the coupling capacitance which is varied by distances and permittivity values. Thus this paper intended to compare the performance of CPT system in terms of the output efficiency for several types of capacitive plates. To be specific, copper plate, zinc, and aluminium are used in this work to act as coupling plates to the CPT system. The CPT system in this work applied class E inverter as it has lowest switching losses among its competitors, i.e. class D and class F. The work is validated through experimental setup of CPT system in which copper material provides the best efficiency of the system.

Abstract

The performance investigation of two novel resonant elements is presented in this work for 5G reflectarray antenna design. Two dual resonance elements with wide reflection phase range have been developed from a square patch element by a novel corner bending tactic. The reflection loss and reflection phase range performance of the proposed elements have been compared with conventional square patch element at 26 GHz. The results have shown a reflection phase swing of 629° and 632° for Bent Width and Bent Length elements respectively. The broadband features of proposed elements can radically improve the bandwidth performance of a reflectarray antenna.

Abstract

A rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) has been excited by an off-set single conformal metal strip. By using such excitation technique two degenerate resonant modes, TExδ11 and TEy1δ1 of the rectangular DRA have been excited to achieve circular polarization (CP). A CP bandwidth of ~ 5.2% in conjunction with a wide impedance matching bandwidth of ~ 54% has been provided by the proposed DRA configuration. The antenna design has been simulated using computer simulation technology (CST). Antenna prototype has been built to verify the impedance matching bandwidth. Far field parameters have been optimized and verified using two simulation techniques in CST i.e. finite integration technique (FIT) and finite element method (FEM). A good agreement between the simulated and measured result has been observed for S11. Similarly a very good resemblance between the far field results from FIT and FEM have been demonstrated.
