Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of traditional Congklak games on students with emotional and behavioral disorder social interactions in SLB E Bhina Putera. The study used a Single Subject Research (SSR) design. The person as a research subject is AS class III students. Based on the observation, AS shows some examples of its communication with the classmates that is sunken, rarely talk with friends, ignore the teacher's orders, always seen alone on rest hour. The results shows an increase in social interaction through the traditional game of Congklak. With all that set, it can be concluded that the use of Congklak traditional games can have a positive effect on the social interaction of students with emotional and behavioral disorder in SLB E Bhina Putera Surakarta.

Abstract

The paper discusses the politeness strategies conducted by teachers of autism centre in Surakarta in supporting them doing their jobs effectively. They are professionals who care and treat children with autism for their cognitive as well as psychomotoric development. Data were collected from four learning processes performed by four different female teachers with a different child for each. The analysis was carried out to see how politeness strategies selected by the teachers help them in performing effective assisting and learning process for the kids. The results show that politeness strategies were conducted by the teachers in two modes—verbally and non-verbally. They were exploited to accommodate the skill transfer to the children with autism effectively. The autism condition of each child governed each teacher to select the types of the politeness—in which bald on strategy dominated the exploitation, followed by positive and negative politeness. In addition, no teacher chose off record strategy for her class. This exploitation is considered effective due to the exceptional condition of the children. Clear and direct utterances which encourage their self esteem are good choice for them. Such utterances in that features can be accommodated by those three types of politeness strategies in either verbal or non-verbal mode.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Course Review Horay (CRH) method of the social sciences learning achievement of 5th-grade students with visual impairment of SLB A YKAB Surakarta. This research is an experimental research of pre-experimental type research in the form of one group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study are 4 5th grade students of visual impairment in SLB A YKAB Surakarta. Data were analyzed by using non-parametric analysis Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test (Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test). The results showed that the average value before using CRH method was 10, while the mean value after using the CRH method was 40. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the Course Review Horay method is effective to improve the social sciences learning achievement 5th-grade students with visual impairment SLB A YKAB Surakarta.

Abstract

This study aims to: a) assess teachers' understanding of assistive technology, and b) explore the benefits of assistive technology in the education of children with special needs in inclusive schools. The research was conducted in an inclusive elementary school located in Boyolali, involving both teachers and children with special needs in inclusive education. Data collection methods included closed and open-ended questionnaires and interviews with teachers in inclusive schools. Data analysis employed both quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques. The research findings indicate that a) 33% of teachers do not yet comprehend the use of assistive technology in education, and b) 48% of teachers require assistance in utilizing assistive technology for the education of children with special needs in inclusive schools. It is expected that the results of this research will serve as a reference for all stakeholders to pay more attention to the importance of utilizing assistive technology in the education of children with special needs in inclusive schools.
