Abstract

AbstrakWriting  is  also  a  productive  talent which  is  meant for  communication  to  deliver  messages in  the  shapesvof  letters  and  symbols. In the course of writing for general communication, students are expected to be able to write using several genre of text. Round Table is one of teaching technique which is implemented by cooperative learning approach. The specific purpose of this study is to prove the students responses toward Round Table techniques in improving writing skills in the Writing for General Communication course. This research used a descriptive qualitative. The research conducted in the second semester students at IKIP Siliwangi in the academic year of 2019/2020. Purposive sample is the technique that the researchers taken. The subject of this research consist of 48 students. Questionnaire grid used as instrument in this research. After analyzing the data descriptively, the results show that all of the students were actively involved during the teaching and learning activity. They have a high motivation to learn. The students understand the material easier. The learning process is interesting and not boring. They are motivated to get good achievement because they feel more valued in expressing opinions when learning. Keyword: Response, Writing, Round Table Technique AbstrakMenulis merupakan keterampilan produktif yang dimaksudkan untuk berkomunikasi guna menyampaikan pesan dalam bentuk huruf dan simbol. Dalam mata kuliah Writing for General Communication, siswa diharapkan dapat menulis menggunakan beberapa jenis teks. Round Table adalah salah satu teknik pengajaran yang dapat diimplementasikan dengan pendekatan pembelajaran yang bersifat kooperatif. Tujuan khusus dari penelitian ini adalah untuk dapat mengetahui bagaiman tanggapan mahasiswa terhadap penggunaan teknik Round Table dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis dalam mata kuliah Writing for General Communication. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada mahasiswa semester kedua di IKIP Siliwangi pada tahun akademik 2019/2020. Purposive sample adalah teknik pengambilan sampek yang digunakan oleh peneliti. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari 48 siswa. Kuisioner digunakan sebagai instrumen dalam penelitian ini. Setelah menganalisis data secara deskriptif, hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa semua siswa terlibat aktif selama kegiatan belajar mengajar. Mereka memiliki motivasi belajar yang tinggi. Siswa lebih mudah memahami materi. Proses pembelajarannya menarik dan tidak membosankan. Mereka termotivasi untuk mendapatkan prestasi yang baik karena mereka merasa lebih dihargai dalam mengekspresikan pendapat saat belajar  Kata kunci: Respon, Menulis, Teknik Round Table

Abstract

In Writing for General Communication course, students are expected to be able to write using several genres of text. In reality, most of the students in second semester at IKIP Siliwangi face some problems related to writing skill. To improve the students’ writing skill, the lecturers need to find out an appropriate technique for the students. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The objectives of the study are: 1) finding out whether or not Round Table can improve the students’ writing skill 2) finding out classroom situation when Round Table implemented in writing for general communication course. The finding was supported by the result of students’ writing scores. The average score of pre test was 68.31. After the implementation of Round Table Technique in every cycle, the students’ speaking score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students’ average score 75.15 in cycle 1 and 81.5 in cycle 2. It can be concluded that Round Table Technique can improve students’ speaking skill and improve speaking classroom into a better situation. Keywords: Writing Skill, Round Table Technique, CAR

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know the result of improving students’ vocabulary mastery by using My Dictionary Application. This research used Quasi-Experiment design. This research involved two classes IX A and IX B as the sample of this research. IX A was selected as experimental class and IX B was selected as control class. In the experimental class, vocabulary was taught by using My Dictionary Application. While, in the control class, vocabulary was taught by using with the conventional media. The data was collected from pre-test dan post test. Then , the data obtained was analyzed by using SPSS. The result of the study showed that teaching vocabulary by using My Dictionary Application significantly improving students’ vocabulary. The findings showed that the mean of Experiment class students was 25.20, and the control class means score was 21.40. After treatment given, there is a significant increase. The means of the Experiment class is 48.40, and the class of the control class is 30.50. After that compared between posttest result class experiment with control class result is t (result the research) = Σ X1 - Σ X2 = t = 48, 40 - 30, 50 = 19.00. Where Σ X1 (experiment class)> Σ X2 (control class). This means that the use of my dictionary application gives effect to vocabulary mastery of students.

Abstract

Language it was really important in human life. Pragmatics is the ability of person to derive meanings from context of speech situation. This study is an attempt to analyzes a types of deixis are used in “The Legend of Tangkuban Parahu Story”. This study was purposed to find out of person deixis, place deixis, temporal deixis and identify which the most dominant of deixis that used in the story. This study only focused on the story. This story got from the Internet. The researcher choose to analyze the story because in the story there must be a contextual meaning. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method in this research. The steps to analyze data are searching the story, reading the story, and finding the data based on three types of deixis. The results of this research it can be concluded types of deixis that used in this story were person deixis, spatial deixis, and temporal deixis. In this research, there was 39 deixis found in the text. The most common type of deixis is person deixis which consist with 19 words. In this study, the researcher find out that person deixis is the most dominant type that found in the text. Keywords: Pragmatics, Deixis, Story

Abstract

This research aimed to explore and identifying speech acts uttered by Dr. Zakir Naik in his standing dawah on the youtube channel entitled: Does God Exist. The research shows that factors of situation, place, topic, speaker, and context play an important role in analyzing speech act. The form of the speech has a representational function to inform and invite people. In this study, researchers used descriptive qualitative methods. The collect data, the writers used several steps. First, download the video on the internet. Second, transcript the dialogues into the texts. Third, reading the conversation texts. After that, identifying the sentences of Dr. Zakir Naik's speech. Then, counting the sentences includes a speech. And the last, describing the reason why the sentences include speech act. In which researchers examined naturally in every speech act that occurred in the theory stated by Yule (1996) in his theory about the types of speech acts divided into representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. In this study, the researchers found 13 utterances as a representative, 7 utterances as a directive, 2 utterances as a commissive, 2 utterances as a declarative, and not found expressive contained in the speech Dr. Zakir Naik's entitled: Does God Exist.

Abstract

The aims of this research are : (1) to know the ability of students’ speaking skill in daily learning activity and (2) to increase students’ speaking ability at SMK Kharisma Nusantara through Two Stay Two Stray Technique. The researcher used Classroom Action Research as the method. This research was conducted on the first grade of Kharisma Nusantara Senior High School in the academic year of 2018/2019. This research divided into two cycles and seven meetings. The researcher took three meetings for test and four meetings for treatment. Each cycle covered the step of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Every meeting consisted greeting, main activity, and closing. In the first meeting of cycle 1, the researcher gave the pre-test to all students as the population. Through this pre-test, the researcher knew the students ability. The treatments of first cycle were in second meeting and was done in third meeting. And the last meeting of cycle 1, the students were given the post-test by the researcher. While, the researcher continued the research on cycle 2, which consist three meetings. Two metings for giving the treatment, and the last meting for the post-test. The result shows that learning English speaking can increase with Two Stay Two Stray Technique. Abstract

This article focused on the teachers' strategies in getting the grade 1 students' attention span at equalBright School. Since the students could not proceed classroom activities well, thus some strategies will be necessary. The aims of this article were to find out the teachers' strategies in getting students's attention span.  This article will use qualitative research design in analyzing the teacher's strategies in getting grade 1 students' attention span at equalBright School. The teacher used four strategy in getting students' attention span, which are giving clear direction and asking student to repeat it, making learning interesting, setting the HOTS (Higher order thinking skills) and varying lesson presentations. In addition, there will be advantages by applying those strategies in the classroom, like helping the students to evaluate information rapidly, making connections between the lesson, fully engaged in the lesson, it is able to make an effective limiting teaching to make it not too long for the students. Keywords:  Attention, SPAN, Equalbright School

Abstract

In teaching learning, teachers can use a lot of instructional media for students. Instructional media in teaching learning is very significant. In this technological age, the use of social media began to be used in all fields of life, including education. One of the most popular social media for students is instagram. Nowdays everyone has instagram accounts, including students. The students usually use it to share their personal information, such as uploading their pictures or videos and writing instagram captions about their activity. Therefore, this study aims to find out students’ perception towards social media instagram as an instructional media for students of Smk TI Pembangunan Cimahi. In this research, the researchers used qualitative descriptive method, the data was obtained from questionaire and interview. The participants of this study were 30 students in SMK TI Pembangunan Cimahi at X Rpl A. The results of this study is social media instagram has high potential if it is used as an instructional media in vocational school. Because it can use for consulting with teacher, share material, giving announcement, media for quiz and for discussion. On the point of that, based on interview and questionaire can be known 80,7% of students agree and strongly agree that socaial media is used as an instructional media.

Abstract

This research is applied a classroom action research. This research aimed to find out the effectiveness students vocabulary mastery through guessing game in seventh grade of SMP Negeri 3 Cimahi in the school year of 2018/2019. The populations of research are all of the students at seventh-grade in SMP Negeri 3 Cimahi. Method of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) applying a qualitative approach. Data sources are informants consist of teachers, students in the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 3 Cimahi and staffs. The data collection techniques are tests, observations, and documentation techniques. The research was taken in two cycles with total meetings were seven; one pre-test, two post-tests and four meetings as treatment. Planning, acting, observation, and reflecting was the steps which carried out in each cycle. The data has been gathered and anaylzed with IBM SPSS Statistics version 22. From pre-test, only 30,5% of students reached Kriteria Ketuntasan Maksimal (KKM), after treatment and post-test 88,8% of students can reach KKM. The improvement of student’s vocabulary results from the application of Guessing Games that helps the students develop their vocabulary memorizing ability with a fun way. The conclusion of the research said: The student’s vocabulary mastery with guessing game improves either individually or classically.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the use of ellipsis and substitution in Ridwan Kamil’s conversation on interview. There are three types of ellipsis, namely nominal ellipsis, clausal ellipsis and verbal ellipsis. While, substitution has three types, there are nominal substitution, verbal substitution and clausal substitution as cited by Halliday (2014). The method used in this research is quantitative and qualitative method. To collect the data, the writers used several steps. First, downloading the video in internet. Second, transcript the dialogues into the texts. Third, reading the conversation texts. After that, identifying the sentences of Ridwan Kamil’s conversation. Then, counting the sentences which includes to ellipsis and substitution. And the last, describing the reason why the sentences includes ellipsis and substitution. From the data, the writers found seven sentences are defined as an ellipsis and substitution. One sentence as a nominal ellipsis, one sentence as a clausal ellipsis, and verbal ellipsis was not found in the data. Five sentences included as a substitution. Two sentences defined as a nominal substitution, one sentence included as a verbal substitution and two sentences as a clausal substitution.
