Abstract

Consumptive behavior is currently increasing among students. If this behavior continues, it will have a negative impact on their lives now and in the future. The purpose to see whether there is a direct or indirect effect of economic literacy and peer groups on consumptive behavior through lifestyle as a mediating variable. The research data was taken from 186 students of Jurusan Pendidikan Ekonomi class 2017 Universitas Negeri Surabaya, who were taken by random sampling technique. The data technique uses the Probability Sampling technique with the analysis method of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with a quantitative approach using WarpPls. Based on the results of the study, it shows that literacy has a direct and indirect effect on the consumptive behavior of students. Peer groups have a direct and indirect effect on student consumptive behavior. Lifestyle has a significant effect on student consumptive behavior. The interesting findings of this study indicate that the behavior of group members and providing new knowledge that cannot be obtained from the family determines the strength of peer groups in influencing student consumptive behavior. In addition, activities and interests in lifestyle can influence the level of consumptive behavior. DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.17977/UM014v14i12021p47
