Abstract

Oriental honey buzzards (OHBs, Pernis ptilorhynchus) are one of migratory raptor from Japan to Indonesia which is widely recognized as indicator species reflecting the conditions of their habitat. Since 2003, OHBs have been satellite-tracked in their wintering grounds in Indonesia. Less information available on wintering areas in the west Java, which hampers the OHB conservation efforts. This paper proposes a new approach for predicting the probability models of the wintering habitat distribution of OHBs with the presence data derived from satellite tracking using logistic regression analysis coupled with RAMAS GIS. This spatial model was locally constructed from the data concerning Talaga Bodas and its surrounding areas and extrapolated for the entire West Java region. The best predicted probability model successfully characterized the distribution of the OHB wintering habitat using slope (25–40%), elevation (0–300 m and >1,000 m), and land cover (forest, paddy field, and water body). The extrapolation model generated potential areas of the wintering habitat distribution covering an area of 3013.13 km2 (8.11% of West Java). These areas were predominantly located outside the protected areas (94.04%). The modeling approach proposed herein may be used to study other migratory species that are tracked using satellite or other navigation technologies.

Abstract

Urbanization is the main issue that altered the environmental condition nowadays. Urbanization means that there are changes in suburban areas to fulfill the function needed in the urban area. Nowadays, urbanization occurred due to the high demand of housing area with lower budget and comfortable environment of living condition. This condition was presented in the Bogor city case. Bogor is one of the oldest cities in Indonesia which is located in the southern part of Jakarta. Due to the increase of population in the capital city and increased of the higher price of housing, people started to looked for place to stay outside the city. Bogor located in the strategic location just close enough for people to commute to Jakarta. The transit city transform into commuting city. People works in Jakarta wanted to live in a more comfortable place of living and cheaper in price than the capital city started to see Bogor as an opportunity. Based on the data obtained by the Central Bureau of Statistics Jakarta in 2015, there are 187.777 total people commuted daily from Bogor to Jakarta. This condition also triggered by the better quality of access in and out Bogor. Mass rapid transportation and highway toll gate create more land cover changes potential to fulfill the high demand of housing. Thus, this research aimed to see the effect of highway toll gate in the land use cover change in Bogor city. Landsat Images was used using the time-series method started since 1978 (the official year of Jagorawi Toll gate operation) with the 10 years interval time, 1989, 1999, 2009 and 2016. In determining the land use cover change, NDVI method was used which has been widely applied in detecting the greeneries. The result then evaluated using the supervised classification and validated using the Kappa Accuracy test. The result of this research shows that land use cover change corresponded with the total population in the citizenship census 2009. Total built area in 2009 is 36.20% which increased by 8.46% since 1999, this result suitable with the total population 949.000 in 2009 Citizenship census which increased by 364.000 since 1999. The highest built area detected is 42.15% in 2016 with total of 1.030.720 population and three active Highway toll gate operated.

Abstract

The Batam Botanic Gardens (Kerabat) is a form of green open space in Batam City aimed at plant conservation activities, research, education, tourism and environmental services. The development of Kerabat until the end of 2018 has only reached around 35% and in 2019 the physical construction has been suspended. Before continuing the development so that the results are in line with expectations that serve as a place for plant conservation, research, community education, and tourism are needed to evaluate the Kerabat landscape. This study aimed to evaluate the Kerabat landscape that had been built based on the preferences and perceptions of the people in Batam City by comparing photos of Kerabat with other botanical garden photos. The results showed the Kerabat landscape based on the preferences and perceptions of the people in Batam City still did not show the character of the botanical garden landscape. Based on the analysis of the landscape preferences of the botanical garden from the photos chosen, the botanical garden character must have a landscape character that is beauty, green, beautiful, shady, organized, neat, comfortable for visitors and has good supporting facilities. Respondents preferences regarding the function of Kerabat are more for the conservation of plants and tourist attractions.

Abstract

The southern coastal region of Pacitan Regency, particularly in six districts, namely Ngadirejo, Sudimoro, Kebonagung, Donorojo, Pringkuku, and Pacitan District, is classified as a high-risk tsunami red zone. Based on the research findings, the Pacitan Bay area consists of two villages, namely Sidoarjo Village and Ploso Village in Pacitan Distict. Sidoarjo Village covers an area of 8.36 km², while Ploso Village covers 3.66 km², making the total area 12.02 km² or 1202 hectares. The analysis of land suitability for tourism in relation to tsunami risk aims to assess the level of compatibility of a tourist area located in a tsunami-prone region. The environmental vulnerability parameters include elevation, land slope, coastal morphology, land use, distance from the coastline, and distance from rivers. Additionally, bathymetric data and tsunami run-up based on historical tsunami events in the southern coastal areas of Java Island are utilized to assess the extent and depth of tsunami inundation. In the analysis of tourism suitability based on tsunami disaster mitigation, the suitable tourism area is located in the eastern part of Sidoarjo Village and the entire Ploso Village. These areas fall into the high tsunami risk zone, but their tourism potential is also high due to the coastal location of tourist attractions
