Abstract

As one of the two influental doctrinal texts, Hadith have a central role in the legalization of understanding verses of the al-Qur’an by referring directly to the practice of the Prophet. In the midst of ideo-political constellation in the Islamic world, until now activities to understanding Hadith is much influenced by the way is relativized balance read the dialogue between text and reader; both in the case of the text that was sunk by the existence of the reader, or the reader is immersed in the text and the memory of his past. From some of the existing models, there are at least three reading modes can be considered superior; Salafi-Fundamentalism, Salafi-Orientalism and Reformist-Marxism. This paper will do a critique of reason on how to read these as well as build an applied "read" more objective, especially against the traditions of the Prophet; one mode readings drawn from postraditionalism’s Muhammad ‘Ābid al-Jābirī (1935-2010).

Abstract

This paper wants to emphasize that the ongoing debate around the term Sunnah and Bid’ah today is ideological, even political dissension. They two no longer reflect the pattern or Islamic syariah knot. Since it was mentioned by the Prophet Muhammad in his traditions, due to external encouragement and the dynamics of the problem of Muslims, this two terms have experienced an acute swelling of meaning. Based on that, through this paper I will try to track and objectify the terms of the Sunnah and Bid’ah which are already blurred and full of dust. By returning to the beginning of its appearance in the hadith, we can find the core of the real meaning of the concept of Sunnah and Bid’ah as well as the context and purpose contained in it before it is torn apart by many factors in the history of Muslim civilization.

Abstract

Sebagai salah satu kitab sahih yang ditulis di abad awal, Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah menempati satu posisi unik yang secara tidak langsung juga menggambarkan anomalitas struktur dalam internal diskursus hadis. Ia diakui bukan sebagai kitab sahih dan juga tidak digolongkan kepada kitab-kitab tidak sahih. Seluruhnya disebabkan oleh cara penyuguhan Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah akan totalitas kajian hadis; satu cara yang tidak biasa dan belum ditradisikan oleh mayoritas penulisan kitab hadis di abad III hijriyah. Ia berbeda dengan Sahih al-Bukhārī dan Sahih Muslim yang hingga kini menjadi rujukan utama perihal otoritas tertinggi kesahihan sebuah periwayatan. Paper ini akan menggambarkan keunikan internal Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah tersebut. Keunikan yang tertuang dalam logika penyusunan, sistematika penulisan dan perangkat metodologi yang digunakan dalam analisa matan serta sanad. Sebuah langkah awal untuk menjawab pertanyaan besar mengapa Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah “disingkirkan”

Abstract

Meanwhile, the text is the dominant element used as a medium of delivery in the arena of narration of hadith. The meaning, content and understanding of a hadith are explained in a narrative manner through the arrangement of words and sentences. Instead of clarifying the meaning and understanding of a hadith, the abundance of texts in the writing work actually makes the possibility of the emergence of multiple interpretations even greater. On the other hand, this reality becomes even more counter-productive when it is known that human cognitive work actually relies on “imagery” (al-tasawwur) work. In other words, explaining with pictures is actually more effective than explaining with text. And this kind of momentum is fully held in digital products and content, including animated cartoons. This paper will focus on observing the visualization of hadith understanding in Riko The Series cartoons. Not only explaining how it works, this paper also intends to test the validity of the semantics in the work of the visual narrative.

Abstract

This paper intends to strengthen the view that Islam vernacularizing happened in the sharḥ of ḥadīth that provided new distinctions in the meaning of the Prophet’s Ḥadīths. Baḥr al-Madhī Syarah Bagi Mukhtaṣar Saḥīḥ al-Tirmidhī written by Muhammad Idris al-Marbawi (1896-1989) provided quite copious data on this matter. Instead of obscuring the Prophet’s ḥadīths, the subjectivity, and locality of al-Marbawi as a Nusantara Muslim scholar enriches the contextualization of the meaning of ḥadīth so that the non-Arab communities can understand the ḥadīths well. The abundant textual data in Baḥr al-Madhī also confirmed that the study of Nusantara ḥadīths had been established in the 19th and 20th centuries AD. This paper strengthened Oman Fathurrahman’s thesis which showed that the roots of the Nusantara ḥadīths writing tradition have existed since the 17th century. On the other hand, this paper refuted several academics’ opinions such as Brown (1966) and Azra (1997) who said that the study of ḥadīths was stagnant.

Abstract

Not much effort has been made to explore Bima as a historical node within the framework of Islamic epistemology in Nusantara. In fact, the area that was formerly known as the Bima Kingdom became one of the important trading ports that connected the spice shipping routes to the east of the Nusantara. Because of its strategic location and its significance in the connection point of spice shipping in the Nusantara, Bima in the end can not only be read as an economic reality, but also a cultural reality which is a reflection, for example, how religion and politics are dialectic and bargain each other. The book “Iman dan Diplomasi: Serpihan Sejarah Kerajaan Bima” is one that seeks to reveal how this dynamic took place. Through a review of three important scripts, the book describes several important historical facts, not only related to the Bima Kingdom in particular, but also the big agenda of consolidating Islam as a doctrine with factual reality that occurred in the Nusantara from the 18th to 19th centuries.

Abstract

As one of the branches of hadith science, the issues surrounding jarh wa al-ta’dil certainly cannot be separated from the development of hadith itself. As we know that the demands of the times from time to time make the needs of society increasingly varied, not least in the field of hadith. The senior critics because of their mission to save the hadith from various forms of forgery tend to be harsh and strict in their assessment of the hadith narrators (tasyaddud) or at least moderate (i’tidal). Whereas the latter scholars since they aim to help the traditions that have been marginalized or overlooked tend to have a lenient attitude (tasahul). This is certainly in the subjective realm, so that a single sigat used to assess a narrator cannot be evenly distributed because of the different criteria set by each critic. One of the memorizations that is still a mystery and quite controversial is la ba‘sa bihi which when viewed from the meaning of the language alone tends to lead the reader to interpret it freely. To answer this problem, a method that is quite relevant and widely used by recent scholars is muqa>ran (comparative). With this method, it can be ascertained that la ba‘sa bihi is more inclined to the meaning of siqah or others. Keywords: Hadith critics; La ba‘sa bihi; Jarh wa ta’dil
