Abstract

Social capital has an important role in mangrove management on conservation areas. Utilization of mangrove forest with silvofishery system can be an alternative developed for the community around the conservation areas. The purpose of this research is to know the strength of social capital in supporting the utilization of mangrove for silvofishery. This research adopted Social Capital Assessment Tool method and data analysis with Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling. The results of the study found that there were several elements of social capital in five study villages that have not supported silvofishery in Kutai National Park (KNP), East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The overall analysis of the respondents showed that there were five elements of social capital have significant effect on silvofishery. The other two elements were insignificant and should be of particular concern to be improved, i.e. social networks and social norms. Indicators to be aware of were the increased knowledge of communities on park-related regulations, increased involvement of individuals in the community, and the strengthening of public figures who can be role models for the community. Mangrove forest of KNP should be kept as conservation area, but it should still pay attention to the socio-economic conditions of the surrounding community. The strength of social capital is expected to realize conservation-based economic development.

Abstract

According to the results of interactions between humans and mangrove forests, the causes of mangrove forest destruction are developing very dynamically. In the sub-district of East Luwuk, Banggai Regency, this study aims to determine the causes of mangrove forest damage. With descriptive analysis, this study utilizes qualitative methods. To determine the factors causing damage to mangroves was done by purposive sampling through interviews. The results showed that the damage to mangrove forests was caused by the conversion of mangrove forests into ponds, rice fields, and settlements. By carrying out restoration, rehabilitation, and restoration of damaged areas and recommending pond management by implementing a silvofishery pattern that can meet community welfare and maintain the survival of the mangrove ecosystem.

Abstract

Ecotourism development, especially in Central Bangka Island of Ketawai more rapidly. The rapid tourist activities on the Island of Ketawai can cause loss of quality attractions for damage to the ecosystem. This is because the pressure on the environment caused by the increased number of tourists. This study aims to determine the  maximum capacity rating  with ratings of three aspects:  (1) the carrying  capacity  of  the  region  (DDK),  (2)  the  carrying  capacity  of  the environment (the carrying capacity of the physical / PCC and the carrying capacity of the real / RCC), and (3) ecological carrying capacity (AR). This  study  uses  primary  data  by  direct  observation  in  the  field  and secondary data from relevant agencies. An assessment of the carrying capacity of the region (DDK), an assessment of the carrying capacity of the environment using methods the Physical Carrying Capacity (PCC), the carrying capacity of the Real (RCC), and an assessment of the ecological carrying capacity (AR). The  results  obtained,  there  are  two  tourist  activity  on  the  island  of Ketawai are picnic and camping. The result of the carrying capacity of the region (DDK) for picnic activities is 240 people / day and camping activities is 900 people/day. The  results  of the  physical  carrying  capacity (PCC)  for  picnic activities is 249 people / day and for camping is 100 people / day. Assessment of the real carrying capacity (RCC) for picnic activities is 239 people / day and camping 96/day. Ecological carrying capacity assessment. (AR) obtained the results of 81 people / day for a picnic and activity type 43 / day for camping activities. The value of these calculations are still well above the actual number of tourists who currently account for 9 person / day. Attraction Development Ketawai Island can still be optimized however, by taking into account the balance and sustainability of the local environment.
