Abstract

Tourism is a potential economic sector that contributes to more sustainable economic growth. Not only focusing on economic growth, tourism has also been proven in improving livelihoods as well as increasing benefits for local communities. Tourism can however be a field of rivalry or tension in the society. This article aims to analyse rivalry and clash happen among tourism actors and other elements of the society in Kinahrejo, also with government, which is caused by the growth of tourism in Kinahrejo. Emerging dark tourism in Kinahrejo has stimulated the growth of relevant businesses. However,the growth of tourism has also led to competition and friction in the management of local resources. This study looks at three forms of friction that occur in the management of Kinahrejo tourism assets. First, friction between the tourism actors in Kinahrejo caused by the desire to control the tourism resources. Second, friction between tourism business and stone sand mining business, caused by the lucrative offer of income. Third, friction with the government related to the relocation policy of the people of kinahrejo to a safer place and avoid the eruption of Mount Merapi. Completion of friction is done by optimizing the role of the community association in facilitating relationships between the various groups involved in tensions.

Abstract

This article develops an empirical model of the process through which human resource management (henceforth HR) systems within subsidiaries of multinational companies (MNCs) are constructed. It extends current models that had previously been developed. It integrates empirical evidence and analyses that had been published earlier with unpublished materials from the same research project. The empirical research applied different qualitative methods in data collection, which are also described in this article. Complementing a previous conceptual model, this article adds on a micro-empirical model of the process and five propositions.

Abstract

Abstrak.Kecerdasan emosi telah diargumentasikan sebagai determinan yang kuat bagi kesuksesan di tempat kerja. Penelitian-penelitian empiris juga telah memberikan bukti-bukti pendukung. Untuk menbangkan pengetahuan tentang kecerdasan emosi dari hasil-hasil penelitian sebelumnya, studi ini berfokus pada proses bagaimana perusahaan mengadopsi kecerdasan ke dalam sistem rekrutmen dan seleksinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami: 1) arti penting kecerdasan emosi sebagaimana yang dipersepsi oleh pelaksana rekrutmen dan seleksi, 2) alasan-alasan perusahaan memasukkan kecerdasan emosi ke dalam kriteria rekrutmen, dan 3) jenis instrument seleksi yang digunakan untuk mengukur kecerdasan emosi dalam merekrut dan menyeleksi fresh graduates. Ini adalah penelitian kualitatif, yang terutama didasarkan pada wawancara yang dilakukan pada delapan peserta Satya Wacana Job Fair ke-21. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa kecerdasan emosi telah dipandang penting dan diimplementasikan dalam proses-proses rekrutmen dan seleksi fresh graduates. Kata kunci: kecerdasan emosi, fresh graduate, penelitian kualitatif, rekrutmen, seleksi.Abstract. Emotional intelligence has been argued as a strong determinant of job-related success. Empirical research has also provided supporting evidence. Extending previous research, this study focuses on the process how companies adopting emotional intelligence into their recruitment and selection system. This study aimsto understand (1) perceived importance of emotional intelligence according to recruitment and selection people, (2) reasons companies include  emotional intelligence into recruitment criteria, and (3) types of selection instrument used to measure emotional intelligence in the recruitment and selection of fresh gradutes. This is a qualitative research, mainlybased on interviews with eight participant of 21st SWCU Job Fair. This study shows that emotional intelligence has been considered important and implemented in the recruitment and selection process of fresh graduates.Keywords: emotional intelligence, fresh graduate, qualitative research, recruitment, selection

Abstract

This study aimed to understand the role of local migrants in urban economic development. A qualitative case study approach was used to examine the characteristics and role of the social capital of migrants from Wamena in Jayapura, Indonesia. The data used in this study were collected through in-depth interviews and field observation as well as statistical data from the Central Statistics Agency of Jayapura. The results indicate that the social capital of migrants reconstructed cultural values through an intensification of multi-ethnic relations within the domestic economic system of urban areas. Wamena migrants contributed to the economic growth in urban areas because of the correlation between norms, beliefs and social networking as forms of local wisdom. Local wisdom was able to strengthen the internal and external social relations of the Wamena migrant community in various economic activities as coping and survival strategies. Specifically, the findings of this study offer an additional view to the conceptual framework of sustainable livelihoods from Robert Chambers and Gordon Conway (1991), namely that local wisdom integrated with forms of social capital can be utilized to create sustainable livelihoods. Thus, this study shows that the local migrants from Wamena have formed a community-based economic system integrated with local wisdom to maintain a livelihood in urban areas, in this case Jayapura, Indonesia.Abstrak. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memahami peran migran lokal dalam pembangunan ekonomi perkotaan. Pendekatan studi kasus kualitatif digunakan untuk memeriksa karakteristik dan peran modal sosial migran dari Wamena di Jayapura, Indonesia. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi lapangan serta data statistik dari Badan Pusat Statistik Jayapura. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa modal sosial yang dibentuk telah merekonstruksi nilai-nilai budaya yang konservatif ke liberal, melalui intensifikasi hubungan multi-etnis yang terintegrasi dalam sistem ekonomi domestik di daerah perkotaan. Migran Wamena memainkan peran penting dalam pertumbuhan ekonomi di perkotaan karena korelasi antara norma, kepercayaan, dan jejaring sosial sebagai bentuk kearifan lokal. Kearifan lokal mampu memperkuat hubungan sosial internal dan eksternal komunitas migran Wamena dalam berbagai kegiatan ekonomi sebagai strategi koping dan bertahan hidup. Secara khusus, temuan ini menawarkan ide baru dalam kerangka konseptual pendekatan penghidupan berkelanjutan oleh Robert Chambers dan Gordon Conway pada tahun 1991, bahwa kearifan lokal yang diintegrasikan dengan bentuk modal sosial dapat digunakan untuk mempertahankan strategi penghidupan. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa para migran lokal dari Wamena telah membentuk sistem ekonomi berbasis masyarakat yang terintegrasi dengan kearifan lokal untuk mempertahankan mata pencaharian di daerah perkotaan, yang dalam hal ini adalah Jayapura, Indonesia.Kata kunci. Abstract

Traditional agriculture has a relationship with the culture of the local community that is the norms agreed upon by the ancestors related to the use of natural resources to meet the needs of daily life. This article aims to describe the traditional agricultural process of the Wamena people in Jayapura, Indonesia. The perspective used in analyzing traditional agricultural processes was the perspective of sustainable livelihoods of traditional communities in a development context. This research was done in a descriptive-qualitative manner by using primary and secondary data. The primary data was obtained from in-depth interviews. Meanwhile, the secondary data was obtained from observations and document studies. The results indicate that the traditional agricultural process of the Wamena Tribe in Jayapura was able to maintain the livelihoods of traditional communities based on the principles of sustainable development. This could be seen from several stages, such as access to land resources, land ownership, agrarian social relations, and gender issues in the division of traditional agricultural work of the Wamena people in Jayapura. This shows that the local wisdom in the cultural norms of the Wamena people could be used in environmentally friendly agricultural activities that did not have a conflict with the perspective of sustainable development.

Abstract

 ABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian – penting memahami fenomena karyawan bermasalah mengingat dampak yang dapat diakibatkannya pada kinerja perusahaan. Penelitian ini khususnya berkaitan dengan satu bentuk khusus dari karyawan bermasalah, yakni karyawan deadwood. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami sebab, proses, dan dampak dari terbentuknya karyawan deadwood agar dapat dikelola dengan lebih baik. Desain/Metodologi/Pendekatan – Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif eksploratif, dilakukan di PrintingCo dan PropertyCo. Penelitian ini menggunakan kacamata atasan dalam memahami fenomena karyawan deadwood. Temuan – Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepribadian karyawan merupakan faktor utama yang menentukan karyawan menjadi deadwood. Keterbatasan penelitian – Penilaian yang tampak cenderung kualitatif, perlu untuk dilihat secara lebih mendalam dan terukur lagi, apakah karyawan yang dinilai deadwood benar- benar telah melampaui batas dari penilaian standar kinerja Originality/value –Penelitian ini mengonfirmasi pandangan teoritis yang telah dengan pandangan di tingkat empiris, bahwa karyawan yang dikatakan sebagai deadwood adalah karyawan yang memiliki masalah kinerja yang rendah dan terjadi berulang kali. Keywords : Karyawan deadwood, kinerja, penelitian kualitatif, kacamata atasan
