Abstract

The position of the military in taking on a political role in Indonesia has changed along with the changing leadership of the state. The dynamics of this change were born because of the pattern of civil-military relations in Indonesia. This civil-military relationship can be created when a concept called "civilian control" occurs. In this paper, we use the theory of civil-military relations according to Samuel Hantington, which is then used to analyze the involvement of the military in supporting Indonesian political decisions (Huntington, 2000). In this study, we used qualitative research methods.

Abstract

As a nation that conforms to the concept of democracy, Indonesia is expected to hold honest and fair elections that comply to the ideals of being direct, general, free, and confidential. In order for the results of general and regional head elections to insire confidence in all parties, openness and accountability must be referenced during these contests. Building a network architecture that enables transparent implementation of the election itself is one of the most challenging aspects of establishing a democratic party. This study intends to examine the future use of electronic voting in Indonesia's electoral system. This study employs a qualitative, descriptive methodology. In an effort to increase voter participation, reduce the impact of fraud in vote counting, reduce costs, and shorten implementation time, the results indicate that electronic voting can be used as an alternative method for general elections due to the Constitutional Court's decision number 147/PUU-VII/2009. Considering the circumstances of the 2019 election in which there were numerous casualties. In addition to having a positive impact, the implementation of e-voting also cannot be separated from problems such as short preparation time, budget problems, readiness of facilities and infrastructure such as uneven internet availability and finally the readiness of resources.

Abstract

The foundational tenets of a nation's foreign policy could have their origins in the nation's history, ideology, or even the national constitution. However, the manner in which it is put into effect is heavily impacted by particular political objectives, leadership, and dynamics both domestically and internationally. In this paper, an attempt is made to investigate Indonesia's foreign policy during the administration of President Joko Widodo, also known by his nickname Jokowi. In this investigation, a qualitative strategy is combined with a descriptive research approach. The findings of the study indicate that economic diplomacy was the primary emphasis of Indonesia's foreign policy under the administration of President Joko Widodo, with the ultimate goal of establishing Indonesia as a leading economic power on the global stage in the not too distant future. In addition, President Joko Widodo's foreign policy, as stated in his Nawacita program, wants to make Indonesia a World Maritime Axis, which, if successfully realized, will have a significant impact on the progress of the country. If successfully realized, this goal will have a significant impact on the progress of the country.

Abstract

Since Indonesia's independence until the reformation of the Indonesian nation, the country's political system has not been one that is purely derived from the socio-cultural values of the Indonesian nation itself, but rather one that utilizes the political culture of the Dutch colonial government. This has been the case from the time of Indonesia's independence until the nation's reformation. The existence of political parties in Indonesia is also impacted as a result of this. The purpose of this study is to investigate the roles that political parties have played in Indonesia's political system since the country's recent reforms. In this investigation, a qualitative strategy is combined with a descriptive research approach. The findings of the study indicate that after the reform in Indonesia, political parties are not able to properly function as pillars of democracy in the political system in Indonesia. Instead, political parties in Indonesia prefer to sacrifice their party ideology, which is the defining characteristic of the party, in order to simply receive the highest number of votes possible. Because of this, political parties in Indonesia exhibit the characteristics of floating parties.

Abstract

Conflicts and tensions in the South China Sea are getting bigger after the People’s Republic of China claimed control over the Spratly and Paracel Islands and the waters that intersect with most of the countries in Southeast Asia. China’s efforts to place military forces on the two islands and the intensification of their ship patrols in the waters of the South China Sea indicate that China wants to strengthen its claims and hegemony, although of course these claims immediately receive a response from countries whose borders intersect in the South China Sea, mainly ASEAN member countries. This research used a descriptive qualitative research method. The source of the data for this research consists of secondary data which is gained from reports or media coverage that examine security issues in the South China Sea. Various data that have been obtained are then checked for validity through data validation techniques, where this technique carried out through triangulation of data or sources. As a superpower, the United States does not remain silent but participates in balancing security for countries that feel they are being claimed. Because what China has done is considered to have the potential to limit the rights and freedoms of the international community in using the waters in the South China Sea as their trade access, the United States and its allies who are members of AUKUS (Australia, United Kingdom, and the United States) are indeed pushing for the principle of freedom of navigation. On this basis, the United States took steps to address the problems and tensions in the South China Sea. The legal umbrella used by the United States is the same as that used by ASEAN countries, namely based on the 1982 United Nations Convention on the International Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
