Abstract

In the context of preventing the transmission of covid-19, education at all levels has been transferred online. Google Classroom is a service created by Google for institutions education whose use has the full support of the Ministry of Education and Culture. After four times conduct English language lectures at STKIP PGRI SIDOARJO face-to-face, process it changes to an online system using Google Classroom. This research aims to know how to use the application in online classrooms, what advantages are there on the application in relation to English courses and what obstacles perceived by students and lecturers in using Google Classroom. Data were collected from 10 students obtained from the test instrument and questionnaire. The results showed the use of this online platform can motivate students to learn English. This matter can be seen with an increase in their language skills. In addition, students feel happy to learn with the application because the features available are easy to understand and also efficient in the use of time. However, Google Classroom also has weaknesses such as the display less interesting, file delivery that must be monitored and time settings that can still be changed. Abstract

Writing is one of the most important skill to mastery English. But there are many students get difficulties in writing. They  worried when they make errors in their writing. To overcome this problem, the researcher uses corrective feedback. Here, corrective feedback is used to revise the students’ writing. It is hoped by this technique, the students can revise to make better and correct in writing. Based on the reason above, the objective of the study is “to know the effectiveness of using corrective feedback in paragraph writing class”. This research is experimental studies and the researcher uses quantitative research. In experimental quantitative research, there are two groups of students participated in the study, control and experimental group. The subject of this research is the students 2018 English Education Department. The data collection technique is by testing writing composition and the data analyze technique used t-test calculated by SPSS Statistic 17.0 to find out the difference between students’ pretest and posttest scores of experimental and control group. This result show that the experimental group which is taught by using corrective feedback get high scores than the control group which is not taught by using corrective feedback.

Abstract

Essay writing with Project Based Learning on EFL students 'is considered as one of the most important academic courses in a supposed program help develop students' ability. The subjects of this study were 10 class 2019 A students of STKIP PGRI Sidoarjo English language education study program. The instrument used by the researcher was a questionnaire, observation checklist and a rubric score. The data analysis technique uses qualitative data. In analyzing essays writing data using 15 quistionnaires about the project-based application method (PBL) in writing essays using google form accompanied by the answer "yes" or "no". Respondents who answered 'yes' were 74% and those who answered 'no' were 26%. In the observation checklist that observes lecturer and student activities from beginning to end of essay writing learning. In collecting the rubric score data by assessing the results of writing essays. Based on these data we can know from that project-based learning (PBL) can be applied well and is suitable for teaching essay writing to EFL students. Students also gave a positive response to this method. The aim is to describe the application of project-based learning (PBL) methods to EFL students and to describe the writing of essays by EFL students when learning using project-based learning (PBL) methods for EFL student

Abstract

Fluency in English makes a great demand for teachers to start teaching English at the elementary school level. This study aims to examine how the application of paired learning and storytelling and their impact on students. The design in this research is using quantitative method. This study contains how students can interact, communicate and learn in class using pairing strategies and storytelling. The subjects of this study were teacher and students of elementary school. Researcher collects data by observing, interviewing, analyzing documents and communicating personally with teachers and students. The results of this study were applied by students filling out the answer sheets first to express their main ideas. Students will work in pairs and retell by storytelling. This will encourage students to speak. It was concluded in this study that students can speak about 110-113 words in every minute with a pause of about 1-3 seconds.

Abstract

Gadget is a familiar technology for primary school-aged children. The use of gadgets in primary school-aged children makes them feel lazy and less interest to read. Reduced interest in reading in primary school-aged children affects the learning achievement in school. The purpose of this activity is to develop interest in reading in primary school-aged children as an effort to divert and reduce the use of gadgets in children. The method used is design assistance with Participatory Action Research, which includes a series of stages of participation, action and research. From various stages, parents are invited and taught to take an active role in assisting and stimulating reading interest in children. This stage is also filled with time agreement in using gadgets as well as reading a book with parental assistance. With the existence of several stages, parents and children look active and happy in carrying out activities development of reading interest in children. Children began to decrease in the use of gadgets as well as interest in reading improved.

Abstract

National examination is a national-scale evaluation conducted by government as a measuring tool to know the successful of all elements in the education process. But the national examination is often a frightening thing for the students because the society still considers the national examination results as the only measuring tool in the successful of the students. Students also often feel anxious and worried in facing the national examination. The purpose of this activity is to optimize the preparation of students in facing the national examination through various activities in the execution of implementation and discussion of exercise questions (try out). The methods include socialization, implementation and evaluation. From the results obtained, it can be seen that students have a better level of readiness after several times doing exercise questions (try out). It shows that if students often practice doing exercise questions (try out), then students will have a better degree of readiness in facing the national examination.

Abstract

Kemampuan bahasa Inggris dalam pengabdian masyarakat ini mengacu pada program cerdas pendidikan dengan memberdayakan mahasiswa untuk pendampingan kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa sekolah menengah pertama. Fokus kegiatannya pada tata bahasa Inggris dengan materi Tenses. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah 35 siswa MTs NU Durung Bedug Sidoarjo. Masing-masing siswa memiliki kesulitan dalam memahami materi Tenses yang dibuktikan dengan hasil pre-test. Kegiatan peningkatan kemampuan bahasa Inggris ini meliputi pre-test, penyampaian materi, penguatan materi, permainan edukasi, latihan soal, pembahasan soal, dan post-test. Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada bulan November 2021. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah siswa dapat memahami bentuk kalimat Tenses dengan suasana belajar yang  inovatif dan strategi pembelajaran yang menyenangkan. Selain itu, siswa dapat menerapkan bentuk kalimat tersebut dengan baik dan benar. Kegiatan ini menjadi bekal siswa mampu menjadi pendidik sebaya untuk kemampuan berbahasa Inggris.
