This paper presents the simulation design of a high-gain antenna using zero refractive index fishnet metamaterial (MTM) perforated on PDMS-Magnetite substrate for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. In order to design the MTM, magnetite nanoparticles, 10-nm iron oxide (Fe3O4) are dispersed into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix. Subsequently, the unit cell is designed by removing the circular hole with radius of 3.69 mm on the PDMS-Magnetite substrate layer and arranged in 5×5 array fishnet configuration. This optimized MTM is inserted between the antenna design and pure PDMS substrate to improve the gain. The characteristic of the respective unit-cell is investigated to operate at 5.9 GHz and the effectiveness of MTM is performed by comparing the antenna performance with and without MTM. The unique characteristics of zero refractive index transform the diverging wave into plane wave for perfectly parallel wave impact on the design to improve the directivity and gain of the antenna. The proposed MTM into design improves the antenna gain to 7.36 dB without having to compromise other antenna parameters of return loss, Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR), gain, directivity, efficiency, current distribution, radiation pattern and bandwidth. These advantages has made proposed antenna as a suitable candidate for V2V in Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) application since high-gain directional antenna is required to increase the sensitivity towards signals coming from certain direction.

This study is focused on highly coupled multiple antennas with defected ground slot techniques. Two Printed Inverted-F Antenna (PIFA) are positioned at the top edge of chassis symmetrically. Both antennas are operating at low-band Long-Term Evolution (LTE) with center frequency, 829MHz. Rectangular defected ground slot is implemented to reduce the coupling effect between the antennas on the ground plane of the small chassis. Parameter study of the rectangular defected ground slot is studied with different width, W and length, L. Furthermore, the optimized dimensions of rectangular defected ground slot, W and L are simulated and presented. The optimized defected ground slot reduced the mutual coupling up to -4.5 dB. The envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) achieved less than 0.5. The ground plane of the multiple antenna structure has been further investigated by introducing another slot with a gap of 1mm between them. The achieved result is not significant in term of S-parameter and ECC compared to single defected ground slot.

Gain enhancement of microstrip patch antenna using artificial magnetic conductor Norfatihah Bahari; Mohd Faizal Jamlos; Muammar Mohamad Isa

The paper presents an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) structure to enhance the gain of the double microstrip patch antenna. By placing this kind of metamaterial in between the two Rogers RT5880 substrates, the antenna achieved lots of improvement especially in terms of size miniaturization, bandwidth, return loss, gain and efficiency. The antenna is intended to operate at 16 GHz where the prospect fifth generation (5G) spectrum might be located. Integration of AMC structure into the proposed antenna helps to improve nearly 16.3% of gain and almost 23.6% of size reduction.
