Abstract

Pesantren is required to be competitive in the field of science. The presence of the SMP-BP program is one of the efforts to improve science education in Islamic boarding schools. Leadership and culture are essential factors in encouraging the level of organisational management effectiveness. This article aims to deepen knowledge of practices in pesantren culture and its dynamics concerning the effectiveness of pesantren organisations (SMP-BP implementation). The research paradigm is qualitative. Data is obtained through interviews and observations. This research involved pesantren managers consisting of leaders, deputy leaders, and several pesantren teachers in Aceh Tenggara district. This research is necessary because it examines a culture in a practical perspective that visualises and concretises the complexities in Islamic boarding school culture concerning the dynamics of work improvement. The results showed that the formation of pesantren culture is a fundamental principle in creating organisational effectiveness. This study investigates the forms of practice carried out by pesantren managers in increasing organisational effectiveness. Identifying the improvement in the management of pesantren is influenced by the policy factors of the pesantren leadership. Three practices identified in an organisational culture approach are leadership mechanisms, management revitalisation, change commitment, and building organisational culture. The research has implications as material for further studies on strengthening organisational culture both contextually and conceptually on the dynamics of education management.

Abstract

Studi ini memiliki fokus pembahasan tentang bagaimana konsep dasar komunikasi interpersonal di pesantren yang relevan dengan gaya kepemimpinan transformasional. Studi ini juga menganalisis apa sajakah kelebihan dan kelemahan komunikasi interpersonal dalam mengatasi konflik organisasi di pesantren sehingga mampu meningkatkan efektivitas organisasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi survei. Penelitian dilakukan pada Pesantren Al-Mujaddid Kota Sabang Aceh. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara mendalam. Validitas data diukur dengan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) kualifikasi pimpinan pesantren mencangkup figurehead, leader role dan liaison role memungkinkan dibentuknya sistem komunikasi yang efektif; (2) Gaya kepemimpinan yang dipraktekan adalah kepemimpinan transformasional sangat relevan dengan praktek komunikasi interpersonal; (3) Komunikasi interpersonal menjadi azas fundamental dalam resolusi konflik organisasi dan mampu meningkatkan peran kehumasan lembaga; (4) kepemimpinan dan komunikasi secara integrative mampu meningkatkan efektivitas pendidikan di pesantren. Implikasi yang diharapkan pada dasarnya pilar-pilar pesantren sebagai organisasi efektif bertujuan dalam memberikan wawasan pengetahuan yang utuh tentang kedudukan, tugas, peran dan fungsi pesantren sebagai agen pembaharuan, pelayanan, peningkatkan mutu manusia sebagai bagian integral dari masyarakat secara keseluruhan

Abstract

Students’ problems in using English to communicate need to be handled seriously. Teaching English is no more teaching the knowledge of English only but also the use of context. This library research elaborates on the importance of pragmatics for EFL students to improve their communication skills in various contexts of interaction and to strengthen the importance of pragmatic competence for non-native English teachers in teaching natural English communication. Documentation is the collecting technique using a checklist and fieldnote instruments. The primary sources are theories about pragmatics and teaching communication from books and published journals. In order to obtain correct and precise results in analyzing data, a content analysis technique is used. The data analysis procedure covers determining the design, which is linkage analysis, finding main data, and theories about pragmatics from books, then finding contextual knowledge from published research related to pragmatics and teaching English communication, and finally, writing and interpreting the linkage to describe the results. The findings show that pragmatics should not limitedly act as classroom instructions but as competence to be constantly developed and practised for students or teachers. Pragmatics should be seen from its whole aspect in order to communicate naturally and contextually. It can also be concluded that opportunities for pragmatic practice should be provided to achieve the goal of teaching English, that is, the ability to use English in various contexts of interaction.
