Abstract

Elderly or old age is a human condition that has decreased body function and is characterized by increasingly limited physical activity. The decline in the quality of life of the elderly is due to the disease process (physiological) in the elderly. Indonesia is listed as one of the countries with the most elderly population in the world. This condition needs to get the attention of all parties so that the elderly can enjoy a quality life in their old age. The Faculty of Art and Design in collaboration with an elderly school under the auspices of Indonesia Ramah Lansia (IRL) Jawa Barat held a joint activity involving four schools for the elderly, with 120 participants. The activity chosen is ecoprint. Ecoprint is an activity that uses natural dyes made from tannins or colors found in plants, leaves, and flowers in its manufacturing process. Through this activity, elderly join together and work through it as a group by tapping evenly and rhythmically across the full surface of the cloth, which has been adorned with leaves or flowers of their choice. As a result, the color and shape of the leaves or flowers will stick to the fabric. A good ecoprint result is when the shape and color of the leaves or flowers stick to the original. On this occasion, the selected media is a strong calico cloth. The elderly are happy and cheerful to see their work. This activity also trains motoric skills in the hands, stimulates creativity, and increases immunity in the elderly.

Abstract

A funeral home is a space where people can carry out the last rite of honor for the dead. In Indonesia, specifically for some religions or beliefs adopted by each family has a tradition where the burial is done in a funeral home with a procession of worship carried out to escort the deceased. These processes have their facilities and infrastructure. In the aspect of infrastructure, all activities that take place are located and carried out in each different room, and the aspect of facilities is the equipment used to carry out each activity in the burial process. In general, there are no specific standards that describe the standard facilities and infrastructure that must be owned by a funeral home. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to document the existing facilities and infrastructure in a funeral home so that in the future it can assist in studies relating to a funeral home. The method used in this study is the study of literature, field observations to two funeral homes, and interviews with funeral home management. The main results of this research are inventory list of the needs that are the optimal needs of the two funeral homes through the data obtained. It is hoped that the results of this study can become guidelines for further research relating to existing facilities and infrastructure at the funeral home. This research explores how the open-plan office space in the Pikiran Rakyat Bandung head office influences the visual privacy preferences of the editorial staff. The aim is to find out what visual privacy is needed by the employees and the factors that might cause visual privacy disturbance on the employees of the open-plan office. The research observed several workstations with the potential of visual privacy disturbances, namely workstations that: a) is back-to-back with the walkway, b) is located at a walkway junction, c) is directly adjacent to the door, d) is adjacent to joint work facilities, e) is facing other coworkers, and f) is close to other co-workers on the right or left side. The research method was descriptive qualitative, using field observations and interviews to collect data. The result shows that: a) The interior settings of the workspace in open office space adjacent to coworkers both on the right side and left side are the most dominant factors that cause disruption to employees in visual privacy; b) Characteristics of employee’s task which need solitude condition influence visual privacy preferences the most, especially in the work layout (monitor). Thus, office space planning in an open office space at the Bandung People's Mind headquarters should consider the need for visual privacy by a) Rearranging the interior settings of the workspace with the ideal amount of work space, b) Adding physical barriers between workspaces, and c) Arranging centralized shared work facilities for employees in open office space, hence minimalize disturbance from the conducted activities.
