Abstract

AbstractThe objective of the research was to find out the improvement of the students achievement in writing ability through T-Chart strategy in term of content, organization, and language use. The researcher applied a pre experimental design with one group pre test and one group post test design. The subject of the research was the eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Sinjai Utara academic year 2015-2016. The sample consists of 26 students. The research was held in seventh meetings. The result of the data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between pre test and post test. The research findings indicated that T-Chart Strategy was effective to improve the students’ writing ability in terms of content, organization, and language use. It was proved by the students’ mean score in pre test was 32. 66 and post test was 73. 66. It showed that the students’ writing skill in post test was higher than pre test. The value of t-test from content, organization, and language use was 21. 36 and it was greater than t-table 2. 060 at the level of significant (p) = 0. 05 and degree of freedom (df) =26-1 = 25, it was found that the result of t-test value was greater than t-table (21. 36>2. 060). It is said that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted.AbstrakTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peningkatan prestasi belajar siswa dalam kemampuan menulis melalui strategi T-Chart dalam hal isi, organisasi, dan penggunaan bahasa. Peneliti menerapkan desain pra eksperimental dengan satu kelompok pre test dan satu kelompok post test design. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI SMP MAN 1 Sinjai Utara tahun 2015-2016. Sampel terdiri dari 26 siswa. Penelitian dilakukan pada pertemuan ketujuh. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pre test dan post test. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Strategi T-Chart efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam hal isi, organisasi, dan penggunaan bahasa. Terbukti dengan nilai rata-rata siswa dalam pre test adalah 32. 66 dan post test adalah 73. 66. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan menulis siswa dalam post test lebih tinggi daripada tes awal. Nilai t-test dari isi, organisasi, dan penggunaan bahasa adalah 21. 36 dan lebih besar dari t tabel 2. 060 pada tingkat signifikan (p) = 0. 05 dan derajat kebebasan (df) = 26 -1 = 25, ditemukan bahwa hasil nilai t-test lebih besar dari t tabel (21. 36> 2. 060). Dikatakan bahwa hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (H1) diterima.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out kinds of information and communication of technology (ICT) is used by the teachers’ to teach English at SMP NEGERI 2 MASAMBA and to find out Teachers’ perception on the use of information and communication of technology (ICT) in teaching English. This research used a descriptive qualitative method, the instruments used were observation and interview. The observation was used to observe and interview the English teachers. The findings of the research showed the results of the teachers’ interview showed that mostly the teacher gave positive perception and agreed toward and teachers’ used Information and Communication Of Technology (ICT) in teaching English, they were happy, they left easy to understand the lesson, motivated to learn, being polite, diligent doing assignment. Whereas, some student was unhappy in learning English and got difficulties to understand the lesson because the thought that learning English was difficult.

Abstract

This research aimed to explain the students’ achievement in literal reading comprehension using Tiered Tasks Strategy, as well as to explain the students’ achievement in interpretative reading comprehension using Tiered Tasks Strategy. This research used Classroom Action Research and applied to cycles in the application, they are cycle 1 and 2 with 4 meetings in every cycle. The improvement of students’ ability to write narrative text using Tiered Tasks Strategy had an effective effect. The researcher found that before the application of tiered tasks strategy the students’ score is 52.53(fair) but after using the method the students’ score in cycle I is 62.14 and in the cycle, II become 77.18. So, the improvement of the students’ score of d-test to cycle I is 18.93% whereas the development of the students’ ability of d-test to cycle II is 47.80% and the improvement from cycle I to cycle II is 24.22%.Keywords: Reading, Tiered, Strategy

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the improvement students’ speaking ability by using Synchronous Communication strategy at the second grade of SMA 1 Mappakasunggu. This research used Classroom Action Research that consisted two cycles. The research population was the second grade of SMA 1 Mappakasunggu academic year 2014/2015. The sample of this research consisted of 27 students. The researcher obtained the data by using speaking test and observation sheet. The findings of the student's speaking test in cycle I and cycle II had significantly different scores.  There was a better increase of gains by students at the end of action of the second cycle. The research findings indicated that the application of Synchronous Communication strategy was significant in improving the students’ speaking ability of accuracy which focused on vocabulary and fluency which focused on self-confidence. It was proved by the mean score of diagnostic test was 4.5 that classified poor, the improving in cycle 1 was 6 that classified fair and cycle 2 was 7 that classified good. It means that there was the improvement of the students’ speaking ability in SMAN 1 Mappakasunggu.Keywords: Speaking Ability, Synchronous Communication Strategy

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the students’ improvement in writing descriptive text especially in content and organization by using Brain Sketching Technique. The problem statement of this research was how is the use of Brain-Sketching Technique improved the students’ skill in writing descriptive text. The researcher used quasi experimental design, and used two classes they were experimental class and control class, the data was collected by using written test. The pre-test was given to the students’ to find out the students’ improvement in writing process before the treatment and the post-test was given to find out the students’ improvement in writing process after the treatment. The population was the second year students of SMP Aisyiyah Paccinongang that consisted of 20 students in academic year 2014/2015. Meanwhile, the sample of this research was taken by using purposive sampling. The research findings indicated that the achievement of the second year students of SMP Aisyiyah Paccinongang, Gowa, improved after the use of Brain-Sketching Technique. It proven by the mean score of pre-test in experimental class was 67.12 and post-test was 77.32 and the mean score of pre-test in controlled class was 68.12 and post-test was 74.37. The statistical computations showed that Brain-Sketching Technique was likely effective to improve the students’ writing in descriptive text.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether or not the use of VOA (Voice of America) Learning English improve the students’ speaking skill in terms of accuracy and fluency at tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang. The researcher used pre-experimental design with one group pre-test post-test design. The researcher conducted pre-test, treatment and post-test in the total of six meetings. The sample was class X OTKP 2 (Otomatisasi dan Tata Kelola Perkantoran) which consisted of 19 students. The instrument of this research was speaking test.The result of the research showed that there was an improvement between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of post-test in accuracy (68.78) was higher than the mean score of pre-test (51.52). Thus, the improvement of students’ accuracy was 33.50%. Moreover, the mean score of post-test in fluency (70.52) was higher than the mean score of pre-test (53.31). Thus, the improvement of students’ fluency was 32.28%. Moreover, based on the data analysis, the t-test value of accuracy was higher than the t-table value (18.55>2.101) and the t-test value of fluency was also higher than t-table (19.55>2.101). It means the Null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Therefore, the researcher concluded that the use of VOA (Voice of America) Learning English can improve students’ speaking skill at tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the students’ perception of teaching strategies and what kind of teaching strategies Lecturers used in English Speaking course at the third semester of English Department in Muhammadiyah University from three classes. The researcher used a descriptive quantitative research as design method because it was comparable to collect the data from students’ perception and gave questionnaire to collecting the data. The sample of this research was fifth semester grade students of English Department which consist of 47 students from three classes. The sample was taken by used Purposive Sampling Technique. Based on the findings, it was found that students gave positive perception on the lecturers teaching strategies used in teaching English speaking course and most of the lecturers used Active learning teaching strategies, the positive response came from their experience in learning process. The result of the research indicated that based on the likers score analysis there were 43 (91% ) out of the students was categorized positive perception in which score classification is 61-100 and 4 (9%) of the students were in neutral perception, and there were 166 students who say more often towards active learning strategies than other leading strategies It was categorized that lecturers’ teaching strategies used in teaching English speaking course effective to apply, it helps the learning teaching process in the class.

Abstract

This thesis study aimed at (1) To find out the students' mistakes from English noun phrases using pre modifiers in writing English texts made by eleventh grade students? (2) To find out students' mistakes from English noun phrases using the post modifier in writing English texts made by eleventh grade students? The research design a descriptive quantitative method, in which it used writing test. The result of the data that the researcher got the most types of error in noun phrase using pre-modifier and post-modifier in disordering made by the students in using noun phrase. The result of the analysis indicated that there are two part the student made error for the first is using pre-modifier in determiner is 66 errors or 66%, in adjective 9 errors or 9%, in Quantifier 1 error or 1%. The second is using post-modifier in adjective, 14 errors or 14%, in To-Infinitive 1 error or 1% and the last is prepositional phrase with 10 errors or 10%. This mean that there was high level error in noun phrase using pre-modifier and post-modifier at Madrasah Aliyah Bontomarannu. Keywords: Error analysis, Noun Phrase, Writing skills.
