Abstract

This research aimed to find out kinds of information and communication of technology (ICT) is used by the teachers’ to teach English at SMP NEGERI 2 MASAMBA and to find out Teachers’ perception on the use of information and communication of technology (ICT) in teaching English. This research used a descriptive qualitative method, the instruments used were observation and interview. The observation was used to observe and interview the English teachers. The findings of the research showed the results of the teachers’ interview showed that mostly the teacher gave positive perception and agreed toward and teachers’ used Information and Communication Of Technology (ICT) in teaching English, they were happy, they left easy to understand the lesson, motivated to learn, being polite, diligent doing assignment. Whereas, some student was unhappy in learning English and got difficulties to understand the lesson because the thought that learning English was difficult.

Abstract

This research aimed to explain the students’ achievement in literal reading comprehension using Tiered Tasks Strategy, as well as to explain the students’ achievement in interpretative reading comprehension using Tiered Tasks Strategy. This research used Classroom Action Research and applied to cycles in the application, they are cycle 1 and 2 with 4 meetings in every cycle. The improvement of students’ ability to write narrative text using Tiered Tasks Strategy had an effective effect. The researcher found that before the application of tiered tasks strategy the students’ score is 52.53(fair) but after using the method the students’ score in cycle I is 62.14 and in the cycle, II become 77.18. So, the improvement of the students’ score of d-test to cycle I is 18.93% whereas the development of the students’ ability of d-test to cycle II is 47.80% and the improvement from cycle I to cycle II is 24.22%.Keywords: Reading, Tiered, Strategy

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the improvement students’ speaking ability by using Synchronous Communication strategy at the second grade of SMA 1 Mappakasunggu. This research used Classroom Action Research that consisted two cycles. The research population was the second grade of SMA 1 Mappakasunggu academic year 2014/2015. The sample of this research consisted of 27 students. The researcher obtained the data by using speaking test and observation sheet. The findings of the student's speaking test in cycle I and cycle II had significantly different scores.  There was a better increase of gains by students at the end of action of the second cycle. The research findings indicated that the application of Synchronous Communication strategy was significant in improving the students’ speaking ability of accuracy which focused on vocabulary and fluency which focused on self-confidence. It was proved by the mean score of diagnostic test was 4.5 that classified poor, the improving in cycle 1 was 6 that classified fair and cycle 2 was 7 that classified good. It means that there was the improvement of the students’ speaking ability in SMAN 1 Mappakasunggu.Keywords: Speaking Ability, Synchronous Communication Strategy

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the students’ improvement in writing descriptive text especially in content and organization by using Brain Sketching Technique. The problem statement of this research was how is the use of Brain-Sketching Technique improved the students’ skill in writing descriptive text. The researcher used quasi experimental design, and used two classes they were experimental class and control class, the data was collected by using written test. The pre-test was given to the students’ to find out the students’ improvement in writing process before the treatment and the post-test was given to find out the students’ improvement in writing process after the treatment. The population was the second year students of SMP Aisyiyah Paccinongang that consisted of 20 students in academic year 2014/2015. Meanwhile, the sample of this research was taken by using purposive sampling. The research findings indicated that the achievement of the second year students of SMP Aisyiyah Paccinongang, Gowa, improved after the use of Brain-Sketching Technique. It proven by the mean score of pre-test in experimental class was 67.12 and post-test was 77.32 and the mean score of pre-test in controlled class was 68.12 and post-test was 74.37. The statistical computations showed that Brain-Sketching Technique was likely effective to improve the students’ writing in descriptive text.
