Abstract

Abstract This research is aimed at finding out whether: (1) Buzz Groups Method is more effective than Direct Instruction Method to teach reading comprehension at mechanical engineering department students of Balikpapan State Polytechnic; (2) the students who have high motivation have better reading comprehension than those who have low motivation at mechanical engineering department of Balikpapan State Polytechnic; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching methods and students’ learning motivation for teaching reading comprehension at mechanical engineering department of Balikpapan State Polytechnic. The method which was applied in this research was experimental study. It was conducted at Balikpapan State Polytechnic. The population of the research is the mechanical engineering department student in Balikpapan State Polytechnic. The samples were two classes. Each class was divided into two groups (the students who have high and low motivation). The data analysis shows the following findings: (1) Buzz Groups Method is more effective than Direct Instruction Method to teach reading comprehension to the mechanical engineering department students; (2) The students having high motivation have better reading comprehension than those having low–one; and (3) There is an interaction between the teaching methods and students’ learning motivation for teaching reading comprehension. It means that the effectiveness of the teaching methods depends on the degree of the students’ learning motivation to the mechanical engineering department students. Abstract

The growth of hotel in Balikpapan quickly must be balanced with the improvement of hotel employees’ competence in hospitality industry along with the increasing of foreign countries guest that is needed excellent service in order to fulfill the guests satisfaction. Communication is one of the most importantant aspect while giving excellent service to the guests especially to foreign countries guest that demand all of the hotel employees can communicate in English fluently. The probles that was found for our community service partner was the low English communication competence of hospitality employee therefore they cannot give excellent service. Method that used to solve the problem was done through 4 steps, such as: preparation, problem formulation, implementation that consists of English training and mentoring, and evaluation program. Based on the result of our community service that has followed by 40 hospitality employees, it can be concluded that there is significant progress of English communicative competence for each hospitality employee tha has followed English training and also based on the result of mentoring and evaluation, it is stated that this community service programe through English training for giving excellent service can help hospitality employees to increase their self confidence while communicate with foreign countries guest.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisa kerusakan yang disebabkan oleh code error DLM3MB, yang ditampilkan layar indikator pada unit bulldozer Komatsu D375-6. Kode tersebut mengindikasikan terjadi perbedaan putaran actual fan motor dengan putaran perintah controler. Hasil analisa pengukuran perbandingan fan motor speedactual dengan perintah controller menunjukan perbedaan lebih dari 100 RPM, standart dari pressure fan pumpadalah 135 – 190 kg/cm2 tetapi kondisi actual adalah 112 kg/cm2. Hal tersebut menandakan adanya keadaan  abnormal, setelah dianalisa ini diakibatkan adanya kontaminasi material asing kedalam sistem dan menyebabkan komponen EPC Solenoid jammed open sehingga sudut pompa selalu minimum dan pressure yang dihasilkan selalu rendah. Kontaminasi material tersebut disebabkan kelalaian mekanik saat melakukan prosses troubleshooting. Upaya perbaikan yang dilakukan adalah mengganti unit solenoid valve dan flushing sistem hydraulic. Kata Kunci: Bulldozer D375-6, Fan Pump Abnormal, DLM3MB, EPC Valve

Abstract

Electrical energy is a primary need in modern human life. As the population increases, the demand for electricity will also increase. Under certain conditions, especially for groups of fishermen and fried food traders, especially at night, of course, requires additional equipment that requires fuel oil (BBM) as a source of lighting energy. Based on the field survey, in a month fishermen use 20 liters of diesel x 30 days x Rp. 6000, - = Rp. 3,600,000 to move the generator engine. Therefore, the Balikpapan State Polytechnic PkM team innovated to design a fuelless power plant with a capacity of 300 watts and 1000 watts assembled from a 12 volt 5A battery for a 300 watt inverter and a 12 volt 8A battery for a 1000 watt inverter. The design of this tool is presented in practical form at PkM activities for 3 working days (2 days offline and 1 day online) in Manggar Village which was attended by 20 participants from fishermen and fried food traders. The results of the participant's questionnaire showed that this tool was very useful, at least reducing the use of diesel generators to Rp. 0, - (specifically for lighting purposes at night).

Abstract

Salah satu sumber energi terbarukan yang mulai berkembang saat ini adalah energi matahari/ tenaga surya, hal ini dikarenakan keunggulan yang ditawarkan yaitu ramah terhadap lingkungan. Proses peralihan dari bahan bakar fosil ke sumber energi terbarukan (tenaga surya) tentunya tidak dapat berlangsung begitu mudah dan cepat, melainkan membutuhkan proses yang berkesinambungan yang melibatkan banyak stakeholder, seperti masyarakat, swasta, dan pemerintah. Aplikasi tenaga surya yang paling sederhana dan dapat diaplikasikan langsung ke masyarakat adalah Penerangan Jalan Umum (PJU) berbasis tenaga surya. Masyarakat RT 22 Kelurahan Sungai Nangka Kota Balikpapan menghadapi permasalahan berupa kurangnya penerangan jalan di salah satu jalan. Minimnya pengetahuan warga RT 22 mengenai cara pembuatan, pemilihan komponen-komponen berdasarkan perhitungan beban yang akan digunakan, serta pemasangan instalasi maupun cara perawatan menjadi kendala bagi warga untuk memanfaatkan PJU berbasis tenaga surya. Luaran dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk membantu warga melakukan instalasi PJU berbasis tenaga surya serta membagikan ilmu terkait instalasi PJU tenaga surya menggunakan panel surya 100 watt peak.
