Abstract

Urban tourism phenomenon has rarely been studied using both tourism and urban studies approach, whereas urban environment play an essential role in tourism attractiveness. This research investigates the considerably high tourist visit in public space of Titik Nol Kilometer Yogyakarta as an urban tourism phonemenon using a multidimensional concept of sense of place which explains relationship between the tourist (people) and the public area (place). The analysis is focused on the place making components that creates sense of place. The sense of place concept is explored through qualitative analysis, with data collected from physical and behavioural mapping, and online interviews with tourists. Overlay and interactive analytical model is performed to identify the sense of place and its component. Sense of place in Titik Nol Kilometer is identified as emotional relationship between tourist and public space setting which becomes not only a place for recreational or creative events performed by the citizen or local people, but also an attractive destination for tourist that brings personal experience of the unique life of Yogyakarta city. Sense of place is created by the connectedness of various elements based on physical setting, activity, and meaning parameters which coherently combined and complement each other’s existence. The process involved the collaboration of planned place making and organic place making, which enable the coexistence of ‘old and new’, and ‘local and tourist’ contrast.

Abstract

AbstractThis study examines the potential development of gamification and storytelling in revitalizing historical tourism destinations at the Warungboto Site, Yogyakarta. The research aims to develop a concept for historical site development by integrating digital technology and gaming elements to enhance tourist experiences. Through analyzing the site's strengths in natural, historical, and spiritual aspects, the "Rediscover The Lost Garden" concept was developed to facilitate site exploration and interpretation through interactive games and puzzles. The research employed a qualitative approach with case study design, involving data collection through historical literature review, field observations, and in-depth interviews with 12 key informants. The findings identified three main site strengths that can be optimized through gamification: (1) natural elements comprising springs and historical gardens, (2) historical value from the era of Sultan Hamengku Buwono II, and (3) spiritual aspects reflected in the building's architecture and functions. The gamification implementation is designed across four exploration zones with progressive difficulty levels, utilizing augmented reality technology to digitally reconstruct site conditions. A reward system based on points and virtual badges is implemented to encourage comprehensive exploration. This research contributes to the development of a gamification model for historical tourism destinations that integrates digital technology while preserving heritage values. Keywords: Gamification; Heritage Tourism; Augmented Reality in Tourism; Digital Story Telling; Situs WarungbotoAbstrakPenelitian ini mengkaji potensi pengembangan gamifikasi dan storytelling dalam merevitalisasi destinasi wisata sejarah di Situs Warungboto, Yogyakarta. Abstract

Touristic creative wellness is a recent, globally spreading travel trend that couples creativity with overall well-being. Surakarta, with the recognition in UNESCO Creative City Network in 2021, therefore has ample scope for developing this tourism industry with creative wellness and Kampung Batik Laweyan as one of the recognized ancient centers for batik making. The authors discuss herein how the creative wellness tourism model anchored on batik artistry aims to marry these three important variables: cultural values, therapeutic benefits, and sustainability principles in tourism. It therefore uses qualitative methods and case studies to set into perspective the historical importance of Laweyan today in its transformation as a creative cultural tourism area with unique characteristics of batik, workshops, and culinary activities. This model links wellness programs using batik therapy with health and art, hence creating opportunities for unique tourist experiences that will benefit not only the visitors themselves but also contribute to community interests. The outcome of this study will contribute to new wellness destinations with a twist while maintaining the rich culture of batik and uplifting local livelihoods
