Abstract

The aims of the program is to introduce English to the community, especially to children. English learning methods and materials used in this program are adjusting to the age of children who are still in elementary school. The materials provided are Alphabets, Numbers, Telling stories. While the learning method used is pictures and games. This program is implemented at the Pesantren for children age in Barurejo Village, Siliragung District, Banyuwangi Regency. Through this program, it is hoped to provide opportunities to practice teaching method for IAI Darussalam students which are accompanied by lecturers, and to build strong friendship between IAI Darussalam and community. The result of the program is some children are very enthusiastic in taking part in learning English, and the caregivers ask the team to provide regular English learning at the Pesantren.

Abstract

This study used quasi-experimental research design to investigate the effectiveness of video-making task in students speaking skill. The study conducted in UPT Bahasa IAIDA Blokagung Banyuwangi during corona virus pandemic on April 2020. The sample was second semester students of Arabic department. There were 45 students involved the study; 22 students of experiment class and 23 students of control class. In pre-test, students’ speaking skill in experiment and control class was revealed on the same level. The treatment was held online in four meetings. Experiment class was given video-making task and control group was drilled by using audio-lingual method. In experimental class, tutor gave the theme and asked students to make video about the theme and upload it on social media.  In post-test, students were called via WhatsApp video and asked to explain about themselves in 5 minutes. The data of pre-test and post-test was analyzed by using independent sample t-testSPSS2.0. The result showed that video-making task significantly effective in increasing students’ speaking score.

Abstract

This study uses CAR design of the research by using a qualitative approach. The purpose of this study was to find out the application of a task-based learning strategy by making introductory videos in students' speaking skills. Researchers made observations in the preliminary study to find out the problems faced by students in learning speaking. In the first cycle, the researchers had two meetings while in the second cycle the researchers had four meetings. The researchers started the teaching-learning activity by greeting, praying together, checking attendance. Then, the researchers delivered the material that has been determined, displayed a video and PPT related to the material, and gave question and answer session. After that, the researchers gave the task to the students to make an introductory video. The results of this study indicate that the application of a task-based learning strategy by making an introductory video for class VII SMPN 2 Siliragung has a positive impact on students’ speaking achievement. This is evidenced by the average number of students who has increased in each cycle. In the preliminary study, the average number of students' achievement was 62, then increased to 68 in the first cycle and increased to 80 in the second cycle. Thus, this research is declared successful because the results obtained by students in the second cycle have met the predetermined success criteria (70).

Abstract

The underlying of this community service is the TBIG students’ inability to speak English well. This is due to their lack of self-confidence, lack of vocabulary and practice. It is necessary to overcome through English Speaking Club program. The mentoring method used is Asset-based Community Development (ABCD) which views the community as potential people. The results show that students' speaking ability improves. This improvement is shown by positive changes in terms of vocabulary and pronunciation. Their Vocabularies are increasingly varied and the pronunciation is also precise. Meanwhile, Students' self-confidence also improves. As their vocabularies increase, students feel more confidence to communicate and speak English in public. The fear and lack of confidence toward their ability slowly disappears. Furthermore, the English tutor's ability improves. This improvement can be seen from the micro teaching which was followed after the workshop activities. They shared their experiences with each other on how to open and animate the class atmosphere and close the class

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The aim of the program is to design English learning combined with the religious lesson namely Fiqh. The program was conducted in Ramadhan month. The materials of the programs are specialized for public speaking skill improvement such as Speech and Master of ceremony and Fiqh which focuses on sexual health and reproduction for teenagers. The program was implemented in SMK Ibnu Sina Genteng district, Banyuwangi Regency. Through this program, it is hoped to provide opportunities for practice teaching method for IAI Darussalam students assisted by lectures, and to build a tight corporation between IAI Darussalam and community. The result of the program is the students are very enthusiast and having adequate knowledge about public speaking in English as well as a proper knowledge about Fiqh.
