Abstract

This study aims to determine the motivation of students in learning English through audio visual media in the eleventh grade at MA Al Amiriyyah Blokagung Banyuwangi then describe how motivation is used in learning English by using audio Audio Visual Media in the form of video. Furthermore, this study also aims to determine whether it is true that it maximally motivates students by using audio visual media. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative design, to collect data, the researcher uses several instruments, among others; (1) Observation, (2) Questionnaire, (3) Interview. The subjects of this research were 15 eleventh grade students at MA Al Amiriyyah Blokagung Banyuwangi where these class students were placed in a special dormitory in the form of the Syafa’atul Qur’an dormitory. The results showed that (1) student motivation can be said to be in a good category, according to the results of all these findings the researcher concluded that the motivation to learn English is 80.00% of the questionnaire results which can be said to be in "good motivation". Besides, from the results of the interview, the researcher concluded that student motivation in learning English was quite good. Students' motivation to learn in English is because the atmosphere is pleasant, the teacher delivers the material well and the material is easy to understand, (2) the factors behind the motivation to learn English besides liking the atmosphere in the English classroom, the teacher also combines methods and media in carrying out the learning process, so that students felt confident that it would be easy to understand and learn the material even though they are not yet speak properly due to very minimal vocabulary,

Abstract

This study uses CAR design of the research by using a qualitative approach. The purpose of this study was to find out the application of a task-based learning strategy by making introductory videos in students' speaking skills. Researchers made observations in the preliminary study to find out the problems faced by students in learning speaking. In the first cycle, the researchers had two meetings while in the second cycle the researchers had four meetings. The researchers started the teaching-learning activity by greeting, praying together, checking attendance. Then, the researchers delivered the material that has been determined, displayed a video and PPT related to the material, and gave question and answer session. After that, the researchers gave the task to the students to make an introductory video. The results of this study indicate that the application of a task-based learning strategy by making an introductory video for class VII SMPN 2 Siliragung has a positive impact on students’ speaking achievement. This is evidenced by the average number of students who has increased in each cycle. In the preliminary study, the average number of students' achievement was 62, then increased to 68 in the first cycle and increased to 80 in the second cycle. Thus, this research is declared successful because the results obtained by students in the second cycle have met the predetermined success criteria (70).

Abstract

One of the primary factors that influence the teaching and learning process is interaction. Verbal interaction is the most interaction happened between teacher and students in the classroom. The quality of verbal interaction affect the result of teaching and learning itself. Thus, this study aimed to find out teacher-students talk characteristic during classroom interaction using FIACS and to find out the dominant talk between teacher and students in classroom interaction. This study was qualitative research. To achieve the purposes of this study the writer used observation which was adopted by Flander’s Interaction Analysis Category to find out verbal interaction between teacher and student. The researcher also use interview and recording for get the data. The study found that all teachers used all FIAC categories and the dominance talk was the teacher’s talk. The teacher speaks about 77 per cent in the classroom while students 13 per cent. From the result, it is suggested that teacher should give more opportunities to the students to speak and interact during tteaching and learning process
