Abstract

Kupang City in East Nusa Tenggara is one of the coastal area in Indonesia that has the high speed of wind flows. Leaving the rainy season in May and entering the dry season from June to October each year brings the peak wind season from the northwest. It may reach 28-30 Knots grade (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Climatology Station of Lasiana, Kupang, 2014). The wind flow has disturbed the safety of road users in the city. The study aim to determine the amount and the impact of wind speed that occurs at three locations of roads, comparing some road vegetations which the best and the worst in solving the wind flow problem, and to develop the road planting plan to reduce the wind flow of road landscape in Kupang. The study was conducted on three roads with vegetation plot include Frans Seda, Piet Tallo and Herman Johanes roads. Wind flow measurements made on each side of the road that exposed to the wind. The study was conducted in May until December 2015. The most effective spot in reducing wind flow is at penghijauan spot with the great number and kind of vegetations, tree canopy and tree rapidity in the area. The worst spot for wind reducer is at Liliba spot and Pertamina spot in Herman Johanes road. The result is supporting by 4 factorial designs which showed that the roads have low rapidity of plants, the sort and height of vegetations which are below 5 meters at the road.

Abstract

Using of green vertical in Indonesia began to develop since 2000. This has been supported by public awareness to create a better quality living space. The vertical greening system in the landscape world has become a common practice for growing vines on building walls. Evaluation study of green vertical ecological functions was carried out in one of the residential houses in Kupang Regency. The basic objective of research is vertical green is needed to replace the function of air conditioner (AC) in homes in creating thermal comfort. The method in this study is the experimental method, carried out by testing several parameters on green vertical. The research procedure consists of 4 main stages, (1) the design and construction of the proposed green vertical model; (2) distance placement arrangements between panels and buildings; (3) selection of plants to be used and (4) measurement of microclimate. The measurement results are then analyzed to compile the green vertical criteria in residentialbuildings. Observation of the study was conducted in July 2018. Based on the laying distance, the best vertical green distance to the building wall was 0 cm (attached to the wall). With a distance of 0 cm, the decrease in room temperature is at the maximum level of 0.68 ° C for indoor conditions and0.86 ° C outside space. While based on the type of plant, the best combination of ground cover in reducing temperature was Marantha leuconeura. Referring to the measurement results, the best combination of panels to be applied on a residential scale was Marantha leuconeura which was placed at a distance of 0 cm from the wall of the building.

Abstract

Fertilizing combination  between organic and inorganic fertilizer can increase crop production because organic fertilizer improves physical, chemical, and biologicalcondition of the soil, hence give conducive circumstances to plant growth. The aim of the research was to identify  the influence of the solid bio-slurry  and NPK fertilizer on the growth and production of Brassica juncea L. The experimental design used in the study was  Group Randomized Design (RBD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications to obtain 24 experimental units. The treatments were: P1: Bio-slurry 20 t.ha-1 + NPK 0 kg ha-1; P2: Bio-slurry 20 t.ha-1 + NPK 25 kg ha-1 +; P3: Bio-slurry 15 t.ha-1 + NPK 50 kg ha-1; P4: Bio-slurry 10 t.ha-1 + NPK 75 kg ha-1; P5: Bio-slurry 5 t.ha-1 + NPK fertilizer 100 kg ha-1; P6: Bio-slurry 0 t.ha-1 + NPK 125 kg ha-1. The results showed that the application of bio-slurry fertilizer with NPK gave effect to the growth and production of  brassica,  included plant heights, leaf numbers, fresh weights and dry weights of  brassica at 28 day after plant of  observation age. Keywords: Bio-slurry, mustard , organic fertilizer, NPK

Abstract

The theme of cultural landscape function becomes very important along with the awareness to create a balance of ecological and social landscape functions in urban areas. Urban settlement strongly influences cultural function, both as a form of landscape and demographic characteristics. This paper aims to examine the existence of several important social values in urban settlement landscapes and the role of landscape features in influencing social values aspects of informal residents such as social cohesion, recreation, sense of place, spiritualism, cultivation, and business activities. The research method used is a mixed quantitative and qualitative method by using observations, questionnaires, and interviews for data collection based on a sociological approach with community members. Questionnaire data were collected for further analysis in which the Spearman coefficient was used to examine the relationship between social values and landscape features. The results revealed that residents in Airmata and Manutapen have different percentages of social values in terms of their landscape features, and it can also be seen that the values of social cohesion, sense of place, and local business present a stronger relationship to landscape functions. These results show the importance of social values in informal societies as a potential approach to achieving sustainable landscape management.
