Abstract

This research is motivated from one effort to maintain and preserve Hata Pangupa part of oral literature Mandailing, especially in Kotanopan Setia Kampong, Nagari Lansek Kadok, Kecamatan Rao Selatan  Kabupaten Pasaman. Discussion of this research is Hata Pangupa in the Upa - Upa the wedding ceremony. Some research results on Hata Pangupa at the wedding ceremony, namely: ( 1 ) the context of oral literature Hata Pangupa spoken in Kotanopan Setia Kampong, Nagari Lansek Kadok, Kecamatan Rao Selatan, Kabupaten Pasaman. Elements of the show, the speakers, ritual instruments, place and time of the narrative, atmosphere and management of the wedding ceremony, as well as the Upa - Upa wedding participants; (2 ) the form of a long poem in the form of text edits are accompanied by translations; (3) HataPangupa as along poem with the characteristics, namely: priority to the use of language rhythm, similar sound repetitive or have poetry, as well as repeat a picture with various similar parables, and (4) function Hata Pangupa in Kotanopan Setia Kampong, namely: didaktif function, aesthetic function, the function of moral, and religious functions, as well as teaching values contained in Hata Pangupa, namely: obedience to God, obedience to parents and customs regulations, settle down and get along in society, always doing good, going to work, having responsibilities, and likes to work together and helping each other.

Abstract

Hata Pangupa adalah pidato yang diucapkan untuk mengembalikan semangat (tondi) pada suku bangsa Batak Mandailing. Karya sastra lisan tersebut masih digunakan sampai hari ini oleh orang Mandailing dalam upacara ritual yang disebut Upa-Upa. Teks Hata Pangupa mengandung unsur-unsur yang bersifat religius. Kajian terhadap teks Hata Pangupa dilakukan dengan tujuan memperoleh makna teks sastra lisan dimaksud. Untuk mencapai tujuan kajian digunakan pendekatan antropologis. Data tulisan ini merupakan data sekunder yang diperoleh melalui metode penelitian perpustakaan. Data diolah dan ditulis dengan teknik deskriptif analisis. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa upacara Upa-Upa merupakan bagian dari keyakinan pada hal-hal yang bersifat keramat, misalnya percaya bahwa manusia, hewan, benda, hal, waktu, dan kesempatan memiliki nilai keramat (sacred value). Upacara Upa-Upa adalah bentuk religi yang didasarkan kepada satu Tuhan (monoteisme) yang dianggap menguasai seluruh alam semesta dan pelaksanaan upacara bertujuan mencapai kesatuan dengan Tuhan tersebut. Selain itu, upacara Upa-Upa juga mengandung konsep atau gagasan tentang pernikahan menurut masyarakat Mandailing.Hata Pangupa is speech spoken to restore the spirit (tondi) in Mandailing Batak tribes. Works of oral literature is still used to this day by the Mandailing tribes in Upa-Upa ritual. Hata Pangupa text contains religious elements. Study of Hata Pangupa text is done with the aim to achieve oral literature meaning of the text. To achieve the goal of the study, an anthropological approach is used. Data text is secondary data obtained through library research method. Data is processed and written with descriptive analysis technique. The analysis shows that the Upa-Upn ceremony is part of the belief in sacred things; for example, believe that human, animal, object, things, time, and opportunity have sacred value. Upa-Upa ceremony is a form of religion which is based on one God (monotheism) that is considered to control the entire universe and the ceremony is intended to achieve unity with God. In addition, the Upa-Upa ceremony also contains the concept or idea of marriage according to Mandailing community.
