Abstract

Media massa menggunakan berbagai piranti bahasa untuk mengemas ideologi konstruktif dan destruktif terkait dengan lingkungan, misalnya eufemisme dan disfemisme. Penelitian ini berusaha mengkaji permasalahan kebahasaan yang terdapat dalam wacana lingkungan dalam media massa di Indonesia, yakni mengenai disfemisme. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan dari majalah Gatra, Tempo, Trust, harian Kompas, Kabar Indonesia, Media Indonesia, Suara Merdeka, dan Surabaya Pagi, portal Antara, Vivanews, Detiknews, Metronews, dan Okezone menggunakan metode simak, dengan teknik lanjutan berupa teknik catat. Namun, data tersebut dibatasi hanya seputar permasalahan tentang polusi, pencemaran, dan reservasi lingkungan. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan metode agih dan metode padan dengan teknik lanjutan berupa teknik substitusi dan parafrase. Bentuk satuan ekspresi disfemisme yang digunakan oleh media massa di Indonesia pada wacana lingkungan ada empat macam, yaitu kata, frase, klausa, dan kalimat. Satuan ekspresi yang berbentuk kata, yaitu berupa kata dasar, kata turunan dan kata majemuk.Satuan ekspresi disfemisme berbentuk kata turunan, yaitu kata turunan berkategori nomina, verba, dan ajektiva. Satuan ekspresi disfemisme yang berbentuk frase, yaitu frase nomina, frase ajektiva, dan frase verba. Referensi disfemisme yang ditemukan berkaitan dengan manusia, tumbuhan, binatang, tanah, nuklir dan material beracun, sampah dan limbah, polusi, perusakan habitat alami, kepunahan spesies, dan tabu. Fungsi-fungsi satuan ekspresi disfemisme ada dua belas macam, yaitu (1) mengungkapkan kemarahan atau kejengkelan, (2) mengkritik, (3) menyindir, (4) menuduh atau menyalahkan, (5) mengeluh, (6) menyampaikan informasi, (7) menghina, mengejek atau mempertajam penghinaan, (8) memperingatkan, (9) menunjukkan ketidaksetujuan, (10) menunjukkan rasa tidak suka, (11) melebih-lebihkan, dan (12) menunjukkan bukti.

Abstract

Formal, informal and non-formal educations are major milestones of post-family care that concern with shaping the character of their students. One form of education which has always been the choice of the majority of parents is pesantren education. Tradition in pesantren is a miniature of community tradition that deserves to be called a community which certainly has a major influence on the mindset and behavior of the students and alumni. One of traditions is the usage of a typical pesantren lexicon. The pesantren lexicon is one of the indirect efforts in character-building education. As it is well known, the majority of students in pesantren have good character as one of the goal of education carried out in pesantren. The educational process in the context of a pedagogical social environment such as pesantren is very interesting to be studied further so that it can be carried out also in the scope of other formal, informal, and non-formal education. This research is conducted to study the pesantren lexicons as an effort to plant character education in pesantren. This research usees ethnolinguistics theory by applying descriptive qualitative design.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the anxiety experienced by English pre-service teachers in their teaching practicum during this COVID-19 pandemic. This study was a descriptive case study. The participants of this study were 28 students from an English language department at a private university in East Java. These students carried out their practice teaching from January 2, up to February 28, 2022. Then, the researcher administered questionnaires in the form of open-ended questions through Google Form to collect the data. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the theory of a-five factor language teachers’ anxiety by Devellis. Meanwhile, the technique of data analysis used was the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s theory. The results of this study showed that the five factors of teaching anxiety comprising of inexperience teaching, self-perception of language proficiency, feeling afraid of getting negative evaluation, the students’ less interest in teaching activities, and getting difficulty in their teaching time management, existed. Hopefully, this present study results can be used as the consideration for EFL lecturers in providing some strategies for the future English pre-service teachers to overcome their teaching anxiety.

Abstract

Taboo is something that considered bad and inappropriate or forbidden to do, even the words to be spoken freely in language use. It relates to the rules, ethics, and norms between individual relationships with others in an area or society. Taboo words use is one of disfemism types or a form of human’s expression with use the words that have bad connotations and bad meaning and can hurt the others, people must avoid it with use the more polites words, neutral words or the words can not cause the negative effects or reactions to the others. The author does the research of the taboo words that spoken by the mom’s characters in the Bad Moms movie with a descriptive qualitative approach with use sociolinguistic to understand and make the language as the object. The movie tells about the women who take care of all their works and children without helps from the man or their husband, but one day they feel bored with much works they do and want to escape their responsibilities and regain their freedom and pleasure which have been delayed. The purpose of this study is to identify the types and the functions of the taboo words which spoken by the mom’s characters of the Bad Mom’s movie or the data is taken from the movie’s script. This article tells about the American views of the mom’s character or which categorized bad from their daily speech, specially in taboo words use, because speech or discourse can cause an image self or represent theirself.

Abstract

Persuasion is an important aspect of communication in our daily lives. The main purpose of persuasion is to convince other people to change their belief, attitude and behaviour. Here, the researcher wanted to find out the techniques of persuasion used by Donald Trump in his political speeches in American presidential election 2016. This research was designed by using descriptive qualitative method. here, the researcher used discourse analysis because the researcher tried to study and understand the functional use of language, that was, persuasion which was used by people in their conversation to influence other's attitude, belief and behavior. The data were Donald Trump’s utterances containing persuasion which were observed from his speeches within American presidential election. The data had represented all data of Donald Trump's speeches. The data were analyzed inductively through the observation done by the researcher himself. In addition, the approach for analyzing the technique of persuasion was based on the Gorys Keraf’s theory of persuasion. It was found that Donald Trump used several techniques of persuasion to get support from the audience and invest his idea in delivering his speeches. These techniques are: rationalization, identification, suggestion, conformities, compensation, displacement and projection.
