Abstract

Background: Stunting is a long-term effect of chronic malnutrition that causes disturbances in a person's physical growth which is characterized by a decrease in growth speed. Unbalanced food intake, LBW (Low Birth Weight Babies), and a history of the disease are the three main factors that play a role in the incidence of stunting. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between a history of LBW and the incidence of stunting for toddlers aged 1-3 years at the Minasa Upa Health Center in 2019. Methods: This research is a quantitative study with an observational approach, using a cross-sectional method. Samples were taken by the purposive sampling method. The number of samples is 134 children with the mother of the child as the respondent. The data were processed and analyzed using the Chi-square p<0.05 test in the SPSS program. Results: The results showed that there was a significant relationship between a history of low birth weight and stunting (p = 0.000) with an OR value of 18.8 which means that children aged 1-3 years who have a history of low birth weight have a risk of 18.8 times experiencing stunting. Interventions that focus on maternal and child health care are needed to reduce the risk of babies with low birth weight and stunting, as well as raise awareness of mothers about the importance of good nutrition for mothers and their children. Conclusion: Based on this study, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between a history of LBW and the incidence of stunting in toddlers 1-3 years at the Minasa Upa Public Health Centre.

Abstract

Introduction: The neonate mortality rate (NMR) in Indonesia is still relatively high and has not met the predetermined target. One of the main causes of neonate mortality is neonatal asphyxia which can be caused by maternal factors, namely a history of preeclampsia in pregnant women. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between the history of preeclampsia in pregnant women and the incidence of neonatal asphyxia in RSUD Lanto Dg. Pasewang Jeneponto district for the period 2020-2021. Method: This study is a quantitative analytic study with a case control approach. the sample selection method is a purposive sampling technique of 364 samples consisting of 182 case samples and 182 control samples obtained from medical record data at Lanto Dg. Pasewang Jeneponto Regency for the period 2020-2021. The analysis technique used in bivariate analysis is the chi square test with a significance level of 5% (? = 0.05) with the help of statistical test software and the Odds Ratio (OR). Result: The results of the study based on the analysis obtained a p-value of 0.000 on the relationship between the history of preeclampsia of pregnant women with the incidence of neonatal asphyxia and the Odds Ratio (OR) value of 22.728. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the history of preeclampsia of pregnant women with the incidence of neonatal asphyxia at RSUD Lanto Dg. Pasewang Jeneponto Regency for the period 2020-2021 where a history of preeclampsia in pregnant women is 22.728 times more likely to cause neonatal asphyxia.

Abstract

Stunting is currently still a problem in Makassar. Incidence stunting from Riskesdas data in Makassar is 25.9% and stunting data at Kassi Kassi Health Center is 22.92%, this figure is still above the stunting limit according to World Health Organization, which is 20%. One of the causes of stunting is mainly influenced by nutritional intake, exclusive breastfeeding for six months because breast milk is needed during the growth period. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 6-24 months. The research design used was observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted in the working area of the Kassi Kassi Health Center from November to December 2021. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. A total of 90 samples in this study that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were then analyzed by bivariate test using the Pearson Chi-Square test. The findings from this study were stunted by as many as 55 respondents (61.1%). The study also found that more were getting exclusive breastfeeding as many as 55 respondents (61.1%). The incidence of stunting showed a higher proportion in infants aged 6-24 months without exclusive breastfeeding (p-value 0.001). This indicates that there is a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers at Kassi-Kassi Health Center.
