Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out the significant difference in speaking achievement before and after the implementation of story completion technique to the 6th-semester students at STIK Siti Khadijah Palembang. The method of the study was a pre-experimental method with one group pre and posttest design approach. The population of the study was the 6th-semester students of S1 Nursing Program. The total number of the population was 90 students in the academic year 2018-2019. The sample of the study was taken by using a systematic random sampling method. The total number of the sample was 30 students. The test was given twice as a pretest and a posttest. The result of the test was analyzed by using t-test through the SPSS program. The result of the study showed that there was a significant difference in speaking achievement before and after the implementation of story completion technique to the 6th-semester students at STIK Siti Khadijah Palembang. It can be concluded that the story completion technique could be an alternative technique in teaching speaking to the students at STIK Siti Khadijah Palembang.

Abstract

Abstract: The objectives of this study were to find out : (1) the significant improvement on the first semester students’ reading comprehension before and after being taught using PQRST technique at STIK Siti Khadijah Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia; and (2) the significant difference on students’ reading comprehension between the students who were taught by using PQRST technique and those who were not. The population of this research was all the first semester students of STIK Siti Khadijah Palembang which consist of 32 students in academic year 2019/2020. The sample of this research was taken by using total sampling. Thus, the total number of the sample was 32 students. The sample was the first semester students at Nursing Study Program (experimental group) which consist of 32 students and the third semester students at D.III Nursing Study Program (control group) which consist of 32 students. The test was given twice to both experimental and control group. True experimental design was used to analyzed the data. To verify the hypotheses, the data used post-test design to analyzed by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test was 0.005 which was lower than 0.05.The result of this research showed that Reading Comprehension by using PQRST technique gave significant improvement on the students’ reading comprehension and gave significant difference between students’ who were taught by PQRST technique and those who were not. Abstract

Abstract: The objective of the study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the students who were taught by using Predict-O-Gram Strategy and that of those who were not. The method used in this study was a quasi-experimental method. The sample of the study was 54 students, which divided into two groups, namely experimental group (class VIII.B) and a control group (class VIII.C), each of them consisted of 27 students. To collect the data the written test was used in the form of multiple-choice. Before giving the test, the test was tried out to non sample students of the eighth grade students of MTs Subulussalam Kayuagung class VIII. A in order to know whether or not the test was valid and reliable for sample not. The data obtained were analyzed by t-test and the calculation was done with SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) version 20. Based on the result of independent sample t-test, It found that there was a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the students who were taught by using Predict-O-Gram Strategy and that of those who were not.
