Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of channeling information about learning strategies that educators can use to provide speaking teaching to students majoring in tourism. The instrument to collected the data in this research is by doing a library research. Through library research, researchers carry out activities by finding materials related to this research. The data collection technique used in this research is library research. This is an activity to collect materials related to research originating from books, scientific journals, literatures and other publications, which are worthy as the sources for research that the researchers examined, by describing the data through some opinions of experts. Using qualitative approach in this research is expected to provide a comprehensive facts about strategies to improve English speaking skill for tourism students. The benefit of this research is to add insight to readers, especially for the educator, regarding the role of learning strategies to increase speaking skills in the tourism sector.

Abstract

Background : The implementation of this research was motivated by the results of researchers’ observations on students who still had many difficulties in listening. Students still have difficulties to listen in English due to the position of Indonesian students as foreign learners. Objective : The objective of this research is to know the influence of dictation strategy in teaching listening for Senior High School students and to find out the advantages of dictation strategy in teaching listening. Methods : The research method used in this research is survey method. The population of this research was the students of SMA Swasta Assisi. Therefore, the sample was the XI Social 1 students of SMA Swasta Assisi. Results : The results of this research were described through surveys distributed by researchers to students. The survey was filled by students based on their perceptions of dictation. The results of this research stated that dictation could affect the ability to hear students. Conslusion : Based on the research conducted by the researchers, we conclude that dictation was truly affected students’ listening skills based on their perceptions and experiences.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out noun used in a song by Justin Bieber entitled “Lonely”. This research applied descriptive qualitative method. There are several steps researcher conducted, including read the song lyrics, discovered nouns from the lyrics, then classified nouns based on the types. Based on research analysis, researcher discovered 12 nouns with 5 types. Therefore, the research results showed that there are 12 common nouns, 7 for each concrete and countable nouns, and 5 for each abstract and uncountable nouns found in song entitled “Lonely”.

Abstract

This research aims to further examine strategies that can be used to teach English as a foreign language. The method that the researchers applied to this research was qualitative research with literature review design. The data sources in this research are limited according to research topic taken from books, websites, and supporting journals. Researchers discovered several teaching strategies for teaching English as a foreign language, including complete learning, recitation, drill, ice breaking, recalling memory, brainstorming, class discussion, games, listening and reading, paragraph writing, filling blanks, English camp, assembly, cooperative learning, problem-based learning, project-based learning, basic materials teaching, implementation of good habits, fun english learning, focus on academic language, literacy and vocabulary, link background knowledge and culture to learning, promote classroom interaction, increase comprehensible input and language output, and stimulate higher-order thinking skills and use of learning strategies. Therefore, the use of effective strategies in teaching English as a foreign language is expected to create new innovations for learners’ success in learning English.
