Abstract

The “native” or pribumi term as a narrative emerged into the public sphere and raises questions since October 16, 2017, whether the term is merely a conversation on the surface or more deeply describes the narrative that represents the socio-cultural aspect of Indonesian society. The study was conducted using twitter as a locus of observation within the period of November 8-16, 2017. Based on the idea that a social text reflects a narrative building constructed socio-cultural and leaves a long history trail, preliminary findings indicate that Indonesian society has a historical heritage of Dutch colonialism on native and non-native (Chinese/Tionghoa). The "native" narratives of the present are not only built on the issue of social inequalities between native versus Chinese, but rather show imaginations about the influence of the Chinese group's economic resources on power. The narrative does not only touch on the economic and political aspects, but also the religions, historically potentially becoming a conflict played by interest groups ahead of the 2018 elections and the 2019 presidential election. Suggestions for anticipating vulnerabilities are to conduct media literacy programs involving multiple stakeholders, both government and civil society, include scholars.

Abstract

This paper aims to review and evaluate the use of drones in terms of regulations and fixed procedures for safeguarding VVIP and Indonesia's National Vital Objects against drone attacks based on the pathetic incident that befell the President of Venezuela and the National Vital Object of Saudi Arabia. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis methods. Data collection techniques are carried out by conducting interviews with related officers, equipped with document studies regarding regulations and carried out so that it is easier to understand the importance of the role of security against VVIP and National Vital Objects combined with potential terrorists using unmanned aircraft (UAV) referring to theories cumulative extremism, rational choice and routine activity. As there are regulations on the use of the latest drones, the Paspampres conducts anti-drone security statically and mobile and the Police are making efforts to safeguard National Vital Objects that keep up with the times. Although drone terrorist attacks have not actually occurred in Indonesia, researchers recommend making regulations in the form of data on drone sellers and buyers by the Ministry of Transportation assisted by the Police, building laboratories and strengthening anti-drone technology in border areas and as a sky monitoring system, forming a coalition of institutional cooperation or related institutions to the anti-drone task force, special forces training, and forming anti drone units such as D'Artagnan.

Abstract

Regional head elections are part of the implementation of a democracy which is essentially indicated by political participation. The political elite at the central government also influences political competition in the regions. Every regional head election has to have a recommendation letter from the central board of the political party. The recommendation letter is a requirement for candidates for regent or mayor who will register to the General Election Commission (KPU). The general elections for regional heads are carried out to meet the demands of the community to elect their regional leaders directly with the spirit of democracy. Political elites often misuse democracy in pursuing power for personal or group interests so that a single candidate appears in the regional head elections. This study analyzes the relationship between the political elites and a single candidate using qualitative methods with descriptive analysis based on credible data sources. The results of this study stated that the political elite manipulate a significant role in gathering all-party support with a separate agreement so that a single candidate emerged in the regional head elections. This study concludes that the existence of a single candidate in the regional head elections results in a degradation in the democracy in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

This article examines how Indo-Pacific geopolitical dynamics translate into concrete pressures on Indonesia’s national resilience and what policy responses are most plausible across the political, economic, and defense-security domains. It addresses a gap in the literature: studies on Indo-Pacific competition often remain separated from analyses of Indonesia’s national resilience and rarely integrate geopolitical structure, regional security interaction, and adaptive state capacity in a single framework. The study uses a qualitative literature-based design with a structured review of scholarly works, policy documents, and official statistical reports. The analysis applies framework analysis to trace causal pathways linking great-power rivalry, the South China Sea dispute, militarization, and regional economic interdependence to Indonesia’s resilience challenges. Because the study relies on secondary sources, it does not include primary interviews or subnational case evidence. The findings show that Indonesia is exposed to intensifying geopolitical competition through diplomatic pressure, supply-chain and investment vulnerability, and growing demands for maritime surveillance and defense modernization. At the same time, Indonesia’s strategic location also creates leverage through ASEAN-centred diplomacy, sea-lane connectivity, and issue-based cooperation. The article argues that strengthening national resilience requires not only adaptive diplomacy and maritime defense, but also economic diversification, institutional coordination, and a realistic recognition of policy trade-offs in responding to Indo-Pacific competition.

Abstract

This study examines the strategic role of family resilience as a fundamental element of national resilience in the face of modernization. The family, as the smallest unit and foundation of national resilience, faces new threats in the digital era where homes are no longer fully safe due to device infiltration. Online gambling has emerged as the largest digital social pathology, damaging the family's economic, protective, and socialization functions. Modernization is impacting many areas from shifts in economic and social dynamics to changes in cultural beliefs, hence families are increasingly finding it difficult to maintain their integrity and roles. The research demonstrated how healthy family structures could potentially foster stability by fostering character, morality, productivity, and civic consciousness among individuals and possibly affect a nation. Via using a qualitative-descriptive method, the paper underlines how family resilience acts as a buffer against the negative consequences of modern depravity including moral degradation and identity crises. As such, building a resilient nation in the present depends on improving family resilience by means of valued education, religious and cultural reinforcement, as well as supportive government policies.
