Abstract

Abstract - Government buildings should have a symbolic value that represents the area. The development of architecture in an area influences the development of the culture of the region, with the abandonment of the element of the architectural locality over time the element of the locality will become extinct. Based on these problems and phenomena, it produces quite important issues especially the acculturation of government buildings that can characterize the locality of a place. So that the research conducted is very important to answer how to produce local and modern concepts that are appropriate to the Serang Regent building design that characterizes the local socio-cultural context of the people of Banten. The purpose of this study was to obtain design guidelines and design simulations in realizing the acculturation identity of local architecture (Banten) and non-local (modern) in the design of the Serang Regent's Pendopo building. The theory applied in this study refers to (1) the archetypes theory in architecture and (2) the ordering principle theory in architecture. Besides that, the methods used in this research are descriptive, qualitative and interpretative that can be used in conducting studies and in–depth searches of the object, the precedent studies that are Pontianak mayor government building and Solok regent government building. The results of the analysis of the object of the study of precedents against the theory with the method that has been described are to obtain specific design guidelines for the Serang Regent's Pendopo building. This research is expected to provide benefits to the community on the importance of localities in preserving and building local culture and architecture and can add to the wealth of existing architectural knowledge for both academics and practitioners and make a positive contribution to local governments for making regional regulations. Abstract

Abstract – Indonesia is a unitary state that has various ethnicities and cultures. Klenteng is a worship buildings for minority communities because there are not too many of them and are scattered in various regions in Indonesia. Klenteng uses the concept of architectural acculturation that combines traditional and modern elements that are widely applied, one of which is the Satya Budhi Klenteng in Bandung City. In the design method, the building must apply traditional elements because it is an effort to preserve or maintain this culture in today's times. In the case study, the Satya Budhi Klenteng will describe the traditional and modern elements based on the concept of site, mass structure, spatial arrangement, construction structure and ornamentation. After that, you will get the dominating aspect between traditional and modern elements based on the main part of the building. The results of the process will show dominance in applying traditional and modern elements to the Satya Budhi Klenteng. This research uses descriptive methods that describe case studies, analytical methods that analyze case studies based on theory and interpretative methods in producing conclusions which are an attempt to understand the dominance between traditional and modern elements based on the design method. As well as, to define the concept of acculturation architecture used through the design of worship buildings. Keywords: architectural acculturation, traditional architecture, modern architecture, Satya Budhi Klenteng

Abstract

Abstract - The development of the times has an impact on all aspects including developments in the transportation sector, stations that serve passengers in the land transportation sector are also affected by the modernization style. The development of the era in question is modernization, where everyone wants to move quickly and practically. The modern style has an impact on the development of architectural styles, in other words, the shift in the original style of a building is displaced by a new style, namely the modern style. The purpose of this research is to know and understand the concept of acculturation that occurs in the Antwerp station building, to find out the elements that influence it and produce conclusions from the object of study discussed, namely at the Antwerp Centraal Station. The research method used is a qualitative method, which aims to see the value contained in the physical building. Followed by the descriptive method, where the data obtained were collected in accordance with the research conducted which was adapted to the theory used. So that the final result is in the form of a conclusion from the results of the analysis that has been done. The expected benefit is to be able to increase the knowledge and knowledge of the readers of the research that has been carried out by researchers. Keywords: acculturation, architecture, train station building and Antwerp Centraal Station.

Abstract

Abstract - Globalization is a phenomenon that is difficult to avoid, and its effects are also felt in the field of architecture. As time passed by, more architectural works in Indonesia are built very modern and the locality approach is starting to be forgotten, especially in design. As a result, Indonesian architectural works began to lose their real context and identity. The purpose of this study is to uncover the local Balinese approach applied by Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), in the architectural design of the Potato Head Studios hotel in Seminyak, Bali. The research was conducted using qualitative methods in the form of description, comparison, analysis and interpretation. The theories used are the principle of Balinese locality and the theory of the design approach on historical approaches, historicism, study of precedents and materials. The supporting theories are the Ordering Principles and the theory of Good Building / Architecture. The case study is divided into the scope of the surrounding environment, the site, the form, the figure and its sustainability. The results show that the Balinese locality approach to the architectural design of this hotel as a whole was dominated by the concept of harmony with nature and the approach to materials. The use of materials involves local craftsmen applying aspects of material sustainability in the building process and using recycled materials to create an interesting creation of shapes and textures on the wall, ceiling and floor elements. In addition, the historical approach of Balinese philosophy and culture is shown by the application of the sanga mandala concept to the shape of the building mass, and the use of the ancient Tika calendar which translates into a breeze block facade. From the concept of Balinese architecture, it can be seen that there is the application of natah as a form OHof the rwabhineda concept and also the woven elements on the ceiling, facade and railing of the building. A precedent study approach was also carried out at this hotel so as to create an architectural design that was different from the surrounding inns. The benefits of this research include providing an understanding to readers and designers regarding the local Balinese approach used in the this hotel and becoming a design inspiration. As a suggestion, the Balinese locality approach from the architectural concept can be applied further to the site and shape of the building mass. The pattern of the Tika calendar can also be simplified to make it easier to identify. Keywords: design approach, locality, architectural design, Bali

Abstract

Abstract – The architecture in Indonesia, like the architecture of many countries and regions in the world, has recently undergone various changes due to the phenomenon of globalization. The rapid modernization and the rapid pace of architectural development create enormous opportunities for the entry of foreign cultural values. This causes rapid changes and transformations that occur in the architecture. This condition is thought to have resulted in the transformation of traditional architecture as a relic of past architecture, both in function, spatial planning or building form. The purpose of this research is to find out how Studio Akanoma responds to this globalization phenomenon by transforming its architecture, as well as revealing the architectural transformation strategy of the Akanoma Studio building in Padalarang, West Bandung Regency. Studio Akanoma is the work of Yu Sing, which currently functions as the office of an architectural consulting bureau. The theory applied in this study refers to (1) the theory of architectural transformation, (2) the theory of architectural transformation process (3) the theory of function, space, and form in architecture, and (4) the theory of traditional Javanese culture and architecture. This research was designed using a qualitative method with a case study approach. The results of this study indicate that the architectural transformation that occurred in the Akanoma Studio building in Padalarang, West Bandung Regency shows a transformation strategy that closely interweaves elements of traditional architectural locality in the context of modern life, with the use of pragmatic and iconic transformation strategy. This can be seen in the architectural expression, both in the function, layout, and form of the building. How to maintain the existence of traditional architecture in the present and in the future is a factual and interesting problem for the development of local/traditional architectural knowledge. More broadly, this study is expected to provide an overview of the development and transformation strategy of traditional architecture which is expected to answer future architectural challenges, and can be applied in the activities of designing and building architecture as a work of the built environment.
