Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is an influence of storytelling that can increase student learning motivation toward Eleventh Grade Students’ Listening Ability of MAN 1 Musi Banyuasin. This study was conducted using experimental research with a factorial design. The location of the research was MAN 1 Musi Banyuasin. To get the sample of research, the researcher took one class; it was class XI MIA 4. The total was 34 students. The quantitative data used in this study was taken from the students' listening ability test. The researcher used pre-test and post-test as a method to obtain relevant data. The data was analyzed by SPSS with six steps; descriptive statistics, normality test, homogeneity test, independent sample t-test, paired sample t-test, two-way analysis of variance.

Abstract

The main of this study was discovering intrinsic elements and moral values in Crazy Rich Asians Novel, besides the theoretical implications of ELT strategy. The qualitative study method was used in this study. The data were obtained from the novel's words, phrases, sentences, and utterances. Data were collected in three ways: documentation, interviews, and book reviews. Data analysis comprise specifying, reducing, itemizing, framing data and making conclusion. The novel's intrinsic elements included theme, characters, plot, setting, and subject matter; moral values in the novel included four aspects: commitment to something greater than oneself, respect for oneself, but with humility, self-control, acceptance of personal responsibility, respect for others and concern for their well-being, concern for other living things as well as the environment. The most dominant moral value was respect for others and concern for their well-being. This study was not previously conducted in other studies because it investigated more recent information about the exploration of moral values and intrinsic elements in Crazy Rich Asians Novel. This study encouraged English educators to use novels as a medium for learning literature in ELT strategy and the result of this study can be used as a resource for English educators and L2 students.

Abstract

This research was aimed at improving eleventh grade students’ reading ability by using Team-Pair-Solo Technique when it was applied in teaching reading. The research was carried out through action research. The researcher acted with the students and the English teacher as the collaborator. The subjects of the research were 25 students of Eleventh Grade of State Vocational School of 1 Lais, Musi Banyuasin in the academic year of 2019/2020. Data collection included the application of Team Pair Solo Technique in three cycles. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The research findings showed that Team Pair Solo Technique improve students’ reading comprehension. The technique enabled students to practice some reading strategies in the form of team, pair and individual and it ease them in comprehending reading. The improvement of reading comprehension can be seen from the result of reading test which has the mean score test 1 is 44%, test 2 is 72% and test 3 is 86% This research also showed that the activities in Team-Pair-Solo Technique enhanced students’ ability in comprehending reading. It can be concluded that the application of Team Pair Solo Technique effectively improved the eleventh grade students of State Vocational School 1 of Lais Musi Banyuasin

Abstract

This thesis is concerned with the inquiry on the correlations among students’ learning motivation, parents' involvement, and English speaking skill of the eighth grade students at SMP IT Islahul Ummah Prabumulih. The problem of the study is to investigate the correlation among students’ learning motivation, parents’ involvement, and English speaking skill. The total number of the population were 69 students. The sample for this study was 69 students. Data were collected by adopting a questionnaire for students’ learning motivation, parents’ involvement, and test for English speaking skill. Data were analyzed by using r-Product Moment and Multiple Regression. Finding show that there are correlations among learning motivation, parentss'involvement, and English speaking skill. The data analysis shows that R_yx1x2 = 0.978 with r^2=0.757 and p-Value is 0.000. This value is lower than 0.05. This is significant. So, Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected. Therefore, there are significant correlation among students' learning motivation, parents' involvement, and English speaking skill. Conclusions suggest that there are significant correlations among students'learning motivation, parents' involvement, and English speaking skill of the eighth grade students of SMP IT Ishlahul Ummah Prabumulih.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out and analyze the process of improving students’ motivation and speaking ability of the third year students package C of SPNF SKB Kab,. OKU by using WhatsApp Application. The method which used in this research is classroom action research where the researcher works together with the collaborator/other English teacher. This research was carried out by following Kemmis & Taggart action research procedure where it took place in 3 cycles. The result of this study found that there was improvement of students' speaking ability and motivation. The score of minimum completeness criteria of English lesson was 70. Finding in cycle 1 there were 15 students who pass the minimum completeness criteria or 50 % of students. Finding test in cycle 2 there were 20 students who pass the minimum completeness criteria or 66% of students and than the finding in cycle 3 there were 26 students who pass the minimum completeness criteria or 86% of students. There were improvement of students speaking ability from cycle 1 to cycle 2 gained improvement as 16% and from cycle 2 to cycle 3 gained improvement as 20%. The students' participation increased during the teaching learning process whereas it indicates the students' motivation had increased. Utami (2020) have researched about WhatsApp Application in blended learning where she found that WhatsApp application effective to use as a learning media in writing descriptive text and now the researcher found that WhatsApp application can use as a learning media to improve students’ motivation and students' speaking ability.
