Abstract

This study was aimed to get the qualified silkworm (Bombyx mory L.) stock by crossing between Chinese dan Japanese races. The materials used in this study were the best fourth lines of Chinese and Japanese silkworm races at Forestry Research and Development Agency, Bogor. Experimental design used in this study was Completely Randomized Design. The results showed that observed parameters were significantly affected by crossed combination. Sixteen crossedbreed combinations resulted were potensial to be selected as commercial stock compared to control BS-09.

Abstract

Preliminary shoot groeth on acacia hybrids (Acacia mangium x A. Auriculiformis) was observed to assess their in- vitro shoot initiation. Explants were taken from 4 months old seedlings of A. Mangium, A. Auriculiformis and their hybrid. Murashige & Skoog’s (MS) medium was used supplemented with various concentration of BAP, IBA,NAA, and GA4. Parameters measured were bud breaking, number average number of leaves of acacia hybrid was 7 and 1.9 cm and 5.2 respectively, found in medium Ak2 culture. Bud breaking of acacia hybrids on that medium happened 15 days earlier than pure Acacia. This finding showed that acacia hybrid could be propagated by  micro propagation succesfully.

Abstract

Observation of seed production and hybrid seed yield were assessed in hybridization orchard of Acacia mangium x Acacia auriculiformis on the first and second flowering season . The hybridization orchard was established in 2006 using 6 selected plus trees from the first-generation of progeny test of A. mangium and 12 selected plus trees from the first-generation of progeny test of A.auriculiformis. Crosses were conducted using 2 spikes for each cross. Based on synchronization in flowering time, 6 and 17 crossing combinations were made resulting in 23 and 89 hybrid families in the first and second flowering seasons respectively. The average  number of pods and seeds in the first flowering season were 1.9 pods/spike and 2.0 soundseed/pod respectively, while those in the second flowering time were increased to 2.6 pods/spike and 2.4 soundseeds/pot respectively. The percentage of poorseeds almost the same on the first and second flowering seasons, namely 28 .7%  and 32.0% respectively. Verification using SCAR marker indicated that almost all of collected seeds were hybrid seeds.
