Abstract

Majapahit has been known as agrarian and maritime kingdom as well, with a territory covered almost as wide as the nowadays Republic of Indonesia region, excluding part of Papua and West Java (the Sundanese Kingdom). This was the condition after Gajah Mada well-known vow, the Palapa. Long before Mahāpatih Gajah Mada spoke his vow, from the year 1292 CE inscription of Camundi one’s learned that the consecration of the statue of Bhattari Camundi during the time of Śrī Mahārāja Kěrtanāgara from Siŋhasāri was a token of his success in bringing all the areas and many islands around under his power. And that means that the idea of expanding the Java mandala had been managed by Śrī Mahārāja Kěrtanāgara since the 1270-s before the inscription of Camundi was established. Based on available written sources (scripts and inscriptions) and being compared to Siŋhasāri maṇḍala expansion, regions that were under Majapahit’s authority covered only parts of Central Java, East Java, Madura, Bali and Sumbawa. Majapahit’s power was very depended on the services of the coastal ports such as Kambangputih, Siddhayu, Gresik, Surabhaya, and Canggu. And as to it Majapahit established powerful navy arms to secure the Majapahit waters in the Java Sea. The Babad Lasĕm mentioned Lasĕm to be the port where Rājasawarddhana (Bhre Matahun) warships anchored. Rājasawarddhana was the ruler of Lasĕm who happened to be Hayam Wuruk’s relatives. All these warships were assumed to protect Majapahit’s waters in the Java Sea.

Abstract

Bumiayu Temple Complex Site is located at Bumiayu Village, Tanah Abang District, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra. The very vast temple complex with Hindu characteristics is impossible to be investigated without careful research plan. Furthermore, utilization of Bumiayu site for religious, social, tourism, education, science, technology, and cultural purposes must comply with proper rules and guidelines. Situs Kompleks Percandian Bumiayu yang terletak di Desa Bumiayu, Kecamatan Tanah Abang, Kabupaten Muara Enim, Sumatra Selatan. Kompleks Percandian bercirikan agama Hindu ini yang sangat luas tidak mungkin diteliti tanpa perencanaan penelitian yang matang. Selain itu Pemanfaatan Situs Bumiayu untuk kepentingan agama, sosial, parawisata, pendidikan, ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi, dan kebudayaan harus mengikuti kaidah-kaidah dan rambu-rambu yang berlaku.

Abstract

Abstrak: Dalam satu periode yang berlangsung sekitar satu abad lamanya (abad ke-8-9 Masehi),satu dinasti yang dikenal dengan nama Śailendra berkuasa di Jawa. Pengaruh dalam bidang politik,seni, dan ajaran (Buddha) cukup luas. Berdasarkan data arkeologi yang sampai kepada kita, buktibukti pengaruh dinasti ini ditemukan sampai di Sumatra, Semenanjung Tanah Melayu, dan Thailand Selatan. Sumber-sumber prasasti mengindikasikan bahwa dinasti ini telah menjalin kerjasama dibidang politik dan agama dengan kerajaan di Sumatra, Semenanjung Tanah Melayu, dan India Utara (Nālanda). Implikasi dari kerjasama tersebut tercermin dalam langgam arca-arca yang ditemukan. Makalah ini menguraikan tentang langgam arca-arca yang ditemukan di luar tempat asalnya dengan sampel arca-arca dari Sumatra dan Semenanjung Tanah Melayu. Sebagai data bantu untuk interpretasi adalah prasasti-prasasti dan ornamen dalam sebuah bangunan. Kata Kunci: Arca, Śailendra, Sumatra, ikonografi. Abstract. The Style of Śailendra Statues Beyond the Jawa Island. A dynasty by the name Śailendrawas known as a ruler dynasty in Jawa for about a century long (8th—9th CE). Its influence inpolitic, art, and religion (Buddha) was quite remarkable. From archaeological data, evidences ofthe dynasty’s influence are found in Sumatra, Malay Peninsula, and southern Thailand. Inscriptionevidences indicate the dynasty developed cooperation with the ruling kingdoms in Sumatra, MalayPeninsula, and North India (Nālanda) in politics and religion matters. The implications of thiscooperation are reflected on statues’ art style. This paper is about the style of statues found outsidetheir origin: the statues from Sumatra and Malay Peninsula. Information from inscriptions andmonument ornamentations are used as supporting data. Keywords: Statue, Śailendra, Sumatra, ikonografi.
