Abstract

Land use is still one of the key elements of urban design. It determines the basic two dimensional plans on which three dimensional spaces are created and functions are performed. Urban is also a fusion of architecture, economics, history, geography, politics and religion. This entire aspects make a city has complex form. Islam as an amalgamation on community life, it contributes urban order include policy and management of land use. This paper has a purpose to explore Islamic contribution on arrangement of land use policy and management, from philosophical level to operational level. This paper uses methodical interpretative-historical research. It means investigations into social-physical phenomena that are a past condition, within complex contexts, with a view toward explaining those phenomena in narrative form and in a holistic fashion.

Abstract

The concept of green open space is still stuck on the concept of space-based theory of absolute space by Issac Newton, who see space as a separation between the mass of the building as a container (solid) and open space (void). Meanwhile, the demands of the world's cities today to combine city life with the natural environment in the city increasingly limited land has resulted in the embodiment of innovation of green open spaces, combined with the mass of the building, either vertically, horizontally, multilevel, and a roof garden. Therefore, the thought about the concept of green area calculation shifts related to the building envelope as an instrument to control the development of the building as a 3-dimensional, in the form of an imaginary space by the slope of the field open sky (Sky Exposure Plane / SEP) were measured from a specific point on the surface of the surrounding road. This paper aims to formulate the calculation of green coverage in relation to the SEP. The concept of SEP operationally still only concerned with building setback. This research method is descriptive qualitative in 2 stages. The first step is the influence of the theory of space to green space on the site and the building. The analysis is supported by the classification of urban space. The second step is the calculation formula of green coverage in relation to the SEP by Surabaya city government regulation no. 7, March 23, 1992, so the calculation formulation contextual conditions in Indonesia. The results showed that the formulation of green coverage in relation to the SEP is an instrument to determine the limit on the development of 3 dimensional green space.

Abstract

Streets are fundamental in the urban realm and always have specific problems. Many street concepts are believed to be able to solve the issues only partially. Therefore, they should work together to solve them comprehensively. Based on this case, to ensure their comprehensiveness, this research aims to offer Quran as an undebatable inspiration in finding new ideas for urban street concepts and filling the holes to solve those complicated problems. By using the content analysis method, this research analyzes eight street concepts: Those are livable, sustainable, walkable, biophilic, complete, democratic, user-friendly, and Quranic street, which is based on Quran to identify the indicators for each of them. The result showed that new inspirations of urban street concepts were found. They could be considered as new indicators of urban street concepts, which can provide a more comprehensive solution to the complicated street problems.

Abstract

This paper aims to rectify the prevailing perspective within architectural studies, which often focuses solely on the physical aspects of architecture, neglecting a profound analysis of its spiritual dimension. Islamic Architecture, as a significant cultural contribution of Islam to the world, transcends mere stylistic choices. It serves as an embodiment of Muslim values within the built environment, bridging spirituality with physicality. This paper delves into the fundamental principles of Islamic Architecture, drawing from classical Islamic sources and contemporary writings. The literature review categorizes the sources into three groups: mentalfact, sociofact, and artefact. The study reveals a profound philosophical foundation for Islamic Architecture, directly rooted in the teachings of the Al-Quran and Al-Hadith. Notably, Islamic Architecture places a strong emphasis on its social impact. Furthermore, these foundational principles evolve to create architectural beauty that holds distinct uniqueness and a sense of identity rooted in Islamic values.
