Abstract

The post anthesis of male oil palm is one of the under utilized solid wastes,  with potential for processing into biofuel or bioethanol, as a welcome alternative to fossil fuels  The purpose of this study is to determine the best levels and the effect of several thermal delignification cycles on the levels of lignin, holocellulose, and cellulose.  This research used a one factor completely randomized design method with 3 treatments; one, two, and three cycle thermal delignification and data analyzed has a 5% variance. The results showed that the treatment of thermal delignification with several cycles had a significant effect on the levels of lignin, holocellulose, and cellulose. The best levels of lignin, holocellulose and cellulose were shown in the treatment of three cycles of thermal delignification.

Abstract

The development of renewable energy from microalgae sources is still being studied to overcome the world energy crisis, one of which is biodiesel from Spirulina platensis. However, the extraction process from Spirulina platensis to obtain oil leaving waste called Spirulina platensis residue (SPR). SPR still contains carbohydrates in the form of cellulose in cell walls and starch in plastids. Carbohydrates can be converted into bioethanol through the hydrolysis process. To optimize the enzymatic hydrolysis of carbohydrates, pretreatment is needed to break down the cell walls. One method of pretreatment is ultrasonication. This study aimed to determine the effect of ultrasonication pretreatment on enzymatic hydrolysis. Ultrasonication was carried out with time variations (15, 30, and 45 minutes) then continued hydrolysis at 40 oC for 8 hours using α-amylase and glucosidase (1: 1) enzymes. The results of hydrolysis in the form of reducing sugars were analyzed using the Nelson Somogyi method and obtained an optimal pretreatment time is 30 minutes with a reducing sugar concentration of 2.493,3 mg/L

Abstract

The purpose of this study were to determine the effect of biodelignification with Trametes versicolor and to get the best dosage of Trametes versicolor on the levels of lignin, holocellulose, hemicellulose and cellulose of oil palm male flowers post anthesis. This research was conducted at Laboratory of Chemistry Politeknik Kelapa Sawit Citra Widya Edukasi and Laboratory of Biochemistry Institut Pertanian Bogor in April – Oktober 2019. This study used a one factor completely randomized design method with 2 treatments: Trametes versicolor 40 ml (A1) and Trametes versicolor 60 ml (A2). Each treatments were three replications. The total unit of experiments were 6 unit. Data were analized with analysis of variance with α 5 %, if there was a significant treatment effect, the further analysis using LSD (Least Significant Differences). The results showed that biodelignification with Trametes versicolor did not significantly affect for all variabels and the dose of Trametes versicolor showed the same effectiveness for the levels of lignin, holocellulose, hemicellulose, and cellulose of oil palm male flowers post anthesis.

Abstract

Dyes are a very serious problem for the environment. Composite beads consisting of fly ash and sodium alginate proved to be an adsorbent to reduce rhodamine b from dye waste. In this study, the effect of the mass of beads (5-45 grams), the pH of the solution (2-11) and the stirring time (0-360 min) was studied. Determination of concentration after adsorption was carried out by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The maximum reduction in rhodamine b concentration of 31.15% was obtained after the adsorption process for 300 minutes with a mass of 35 grams of beads. The adsorption of rhodamine b is quite sensitive to the pH of the solution and shows the optimum adsorption value at pH 2. Based on the characterization with BET, fly ash – alginate beads include mesopores with a pore diameter of 10 nm, a total pore volume of 5,332 x 10-3 cc/g and a pore surface area. 2,133 m2/g
