Abstract

The use of Javanese is an interesting phenomenon both oral and written. The Javanese language used in the Surakarta Hadiningrat palace as a communication device is still familiar with speech levels. The use language levels ranging from ngoko, madya, krama, krama inggril, or even kedhaton language. The purpose of this study is to describe the pattern of verbal interaction and social function of Javanese language in the Surakarta Hadiningrat palace community. This research is a qualitative research by taking the location of research in the Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace. The data used is Javanese in daily activities and traditional ceremonies in the palace. The data is in oral and written form. The data is provided by observation and interview methods. In data analysis using a contextual approach, the speech component. From the results of the study it is concluded that the patterns of the use of Javanese language in the palace community is influenced by the vertical and horizontal relationship between locutorand interlocutor. The function of using Javanese language in the Surakarta palace community as follows as an official communication tool in the palace, as an expression of respect, creates politeness.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the form and marker of aspectuality in The Great Gatsby novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The data in this study are written data in the form of words, clauses, and sentences in the novel The Great Gatsby. It was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald  consists of three forms of aspectuality namely perfective / completed, progressive, and repetitive / habitual. The aspect that is often used is perfective / completed aspiration. Aspectuality markers used including perfective aspect characterized by past verb or had + past participle verb, while progressive aspect are marked to be + verb ing, and repetitive / habitual are marked with past verb or infinitive forms.

Abstract

The era of modernization of social media has always been associated with teenagers, especially those on Facebook. This social media can be used as a medium to show their existence. The language used for communication interactions varies. The purpose of this study is to identify the choice of language codes and the function of language used by students in the Islamic Modern Assalaam Islamic Boarding School in Indonesia in their communication interactions. This research is a qualitative in nature. The data under investigation are students’ conversations on Facebook, which are particularly related to the choice of codes. Data collection includes observation, field notes, and interviews. This research analysis employs the components of the Hymes (SPEAKING) speech. The research results demonstrate that the choice of language codes used by students to communicate in social media are Indonesian, Arabic, English, and Javanese. The function of language namely to convey their intents,  to show their identity, as language for foreign language training of the santri, as language of intimacy. The development of technology can make communication effective for students. Besides, that can drive the changes in behavior and language they use.  AbstrakZaman modernisasi selalu dikaitkan dengan remaja, terutama facebook. Media sosial ini dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai media untuk menunjukkan eksistensi bagi santri.  Bahasa yang digunakan untuk interaksi komunikasi bervariasi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi pilihan kode dan fungsi bahasa yang digunakan oleh santri di lingkungan Pesantren Modern Islam Assalaam di Indonesia dalam interaksi komunikasi di media sosial. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah percakapan para santri di facebook yang mengandung pilihan kode. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik observasi, catat, dan wawancara. Analisis penelitan ini menggunakan komponen tutur Hymes (SPEAKING). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pilihan kode bahasa yang digunakan oleh santri untuk berkomunikasi dalam media sosial adalah bahasa Indonesia, bahasa Arab, bahasa Inggris, bahasa Jawa. Fungsi bahasa dalam media sosial yaitu untuk menyampaikan maksud, melatih bahasa asing bagi santri, menunjukkan identitas diri, dan menunjukkan rasa keakraban. Perkembangan teknologi dapat mengefektifkan komunikasi bagi santri, selain itu dapat mempengaruhi perubahan perilaku dan bahasa yang digunakan.
