Abstract

This study analyzes the students’ ability in using noun phrases in descriptive text at SMA N 1 Rao based on structures of noun phrases by Greenbaum and Nelson and also finds out the structure that the students have the most problem with in descriptive text. The sample of this research is 32 students selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The technique of data collection was writing test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used guideline that are grouped by the structures. From the result of the test, it was found the mean of students’ ability in using noun phrases was 74,53%  as a fair category. In students’ writing, the structures the students have the most problem are: determiner+pre-modifier+noun (40,32%), determiner +noun (38,93%) and determiner+pre-modifier+noun+post-modifier (37,5%)

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study revealed the contribution of reading comprehension skills toward writing skill related to the description texts of that made by grade VII students of SMP Negeri 7 Padang. The purpose of this study was categorized into three-part. First, to describe the writing skills of the description text of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 7 Padang. Second, to describe the reading skills of students in grade VII of SMP Negeri 7 Padang.. Third, to describe the contribution of reading comprehension skill to the writing skill of the description texts of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 7 Padang. This type of study was quantitative with descriptive methods. The design used in this study was the contribution design. The population of this study was students of class VII SMP Negeri 7 Padang in the 2018/2019 academic year about 251 students. The sample in this study was determined by proportional random sampling 15% of the population that was 40 students. The data of this study were in the form of scores on reading comprehension skill test scores and scores on writing description text skill. The data were obtained through two types of tests namely objective tests to measure the comprehension of reading skill and performance tests to measure description text writing skill. There were three results of this study. First, the description writing skill of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 7 Padang was in good qualifications (B) with an average of 76.80. Second, reading comprehension skill of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 7 Padang was in good qualifications (B) with an average of 82.50. Third, there was a contribution to reading comprehension text skill on the ability to write description texts of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 7 Padang with percentage 42, 51%. Kata kunci: Kontribusi, Keterampilan, Membaca Pemahaman, Menulis, Teks Deskripsi

Abstract

Currently the 2013 curriculum applies scientific approach in learning activities to develop self-potential by sharpening the mindset of students to be more active and creative. To realize these goals, learning methods and media must be carefully selected. This research will produce an e-module based on a scientific approach with probing and prompting questions for hydrocarbon material. The probing and prompting questions are used to familiarize students with answering questions so that the development of students' thinking patterns can be maximized. Research & Development (R & D) is a type of research that is used with 4-D as a development model.  The 4-D stages include: define, design, develop and disseminate. The disseminate stage was not carried out due to time and cost limitations. The research was only carried out until the develop stage, namely the validity and practicality test. Validity and practicality sheets were used as data collection instruments. The e-module validation was carried out by 5 validators, while the practicality of the e-module was carried out by 3 chemistry teachers and 30 students of SMAN 12 Padang. The research data processing used the Kappa Cohen formula. The e-module validity values obtained were 0.87 and the practicality values by teachers and students were 0.88 and 0.83.  Based on these three values, the hydrocarbon e-module based on a scientific approach with probing and prompting questions is declared valid and practically used in the learning process. Saat ini kurikulum 2013 menerapkan tahapan saintifik dalam kegiatan pembelajaran  untuk mengembangkan potensi diri dengan mengasah pola pikir siswa menjadi lebih aktif dan kreatif. Untuk mewujudkan tujuan tersebut, metode dan media pembelajaran harus dipilih dengan cermat. Penelitian ini akan menghasilkan e-modul berbasis pendekatan saintifik dengan pertanyaan probing dan prompting untuk materi hidrokarbon. Pertanyaan probing dan prompting digunakan untuk membiasakan siswa dalam menjawab pertanyaan sehingga pengembangan pola pikir siswa dapat dioptimalkan. Research & development (R & D) merupakan jenis penelitian yang digunakan dengan 4-D sebagai model pengembangannya. Tahapan 4-D meliputi: define, design, develop dan disseminate. Tahap disseminate tidak dilakukan karena keterbatasan waktu dan biaya. Penelitian hanya dilakukan sampai tahap develop, yaitu uji validitas dan praktikalitas. Lembar validitas dan praktikalitas digunakan sebagai instrumen pengumpulan data. Validasi e-modul dilakukan oleh 5 orang validator, sedangkan praktikalitas e-modul dilakukan oleh 3 orang guru kimia dan 30 orang siswa SMAN 12 Padang. Pengolahan data penelitian menggunakan formula Kappa Cohen. Nilai validitas e-modul yang didapatkan sebesar 0,87 dan nilai praktikalitas oleh guru dan siswa sebesar 0,88 dan 0,83. Berdasarkan ketiga nilai tersebut, maka e-modul hidrokarbon berbasis pendekatan saintifik dengan pertanyaan probing dan prompting dinyatakan valid dan praktis digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

In the era of digital society 5.0, it offers much technology to help students write. However, the available technology will not be used by students if it has not been introduced and taught to use technology that can be used in writing scientific papers. Lecturers can use the TPACK learning framework to teach and train students to write scientific papers. This research belongs to survey research. This study looked at the responses of 40 students taught using technology in applications or recommended websites to facilitate writing scientific papers. The research instrument is in the form of a questionnaire that includes the four components of TPACK based on the recommended technology. The findings showed that the TPACK learning framework could change students' mindsets in writing scientific papers to be easier and more enjoyable. After introducing and teaching techniques with the stages of the TPACK learning framework that can be utilized, students are interested and find it helpful in finding the latest research ideas/topics with many easily accessible references: Publish or Perish, paraphrasing citations from articles to avoid plagiarism: Smoodin, improving writing and grammar: google document and using the reference manager application to help create an automated bibliography: Mendeley.

Abstract

Excellent and appropriate teaching materials are based on the results of needs analysis. They significantly affect students’ ability to write scientific articles and increase their knowledge and understanding of scientific papers required by indexed and reputable journals. This article explores the target needs (i.e., necessities, lacks, and wants) for teaching materials based on accredited journal criteria for scientific article writing. The design used is a case study. The data were collected using a questionnaire about target needs based on the theory of Hutchinson and Waters, namely lacks, necessities, and wants, and a focus group interview. The results showed that students must learn about teaching materials to write scientific articles to improve their writing quality. Regarding the students’ lack of learning material for writing scientific articles, 85.53% indicated students’ lack of IMRAD or introduction, method, result and discussion, and conclusion format research articles. According to students’ perceptions, restating the research objective and approach and creating a research gap is the most difficult. Among 72 participants, 80% mentioned learning how to write based on the IMRAD format creating a research gap found to be the most critical skill they want to learn in the new course and then followed by summarizing and presenting data.

Abstract

Writing scientific papers is unavoidable for the scientific community in higher education. As part of the scientific community, students must master the knowledge and skills of writing scientific papers. However, the reality on the ground has not shown the expected reality. Many students do not have sufficient knowledge and skills to write scientific papers. Not a few students still have shallow knowledge and skills in terms of writing scientific papers. This study examined students' perceptions of using the TPACK-based 5E-PBL learning cycle model to improve their ability to write scientific papers. The subjects of this study were 189 second-semester students who had taken Indonesian language courses at Asahan University from the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Teacher Training. The research method used was a descriptive research design with a quantitative approach. The research data was obtained by distributing surveys to all samples using the Google Forms platform, and interviews. Based on the results of the data analysis, there was a significant increase, around 51 students got very good scores, and 65 were in a good category. Thus, the effectiveness of the TPACK-based 5E-PBL learning cycle model in terms of educators (lecturers) shows a very high category (56%). While the average score showed the highest score 41% in the very high category viewed from the students’ sub-variable. In sum, students considered using the 5E-PBL learning cycle model based on TPACK for Indonesian language courses on scientific paper writing material positively impacted the learning process.

Abstract

Generation Z prospective mathematics teachers do not have a deep understanding of the history of prime numbers in Ancient Greece. This is an obstacle to their understanding of the application of prime number concepts in learning. This research aims to present the biographies and works of mathematicians of the Ancient Greek era as well as the appreciation of generation Z students of prospective mathematics teachers towards the contribution of mathematicians of the Ancient Greek era in the development of mathematics. The methods used in this qualitative research are literature study and case study. The research subjects consisted of five students of generation Z prospective mathematics teacher who were purposively selected. The data analysis used was thematic analysis. The results showed that most of the subjects had a limited understanding of Ancient Greek mathematicians, but showed interest in learning more about Ancient Greek mathematicians. This study reveals two categories of understanding among the participants: those who unknown about the Ancient Greek mathematicians who contributed to prime numbers and known about the Ancient Greek mathematicians who contributed to prime numbers. Specifically, three participants did not recognize any Ancient Greek mathematicians related to prime numbers, while two participants were able to identify Euclid and Eratosthenes and explain their contributions.

Abstract

Abstrak Mahasiswa KKN di Jorong Atas Laban, Nagari Halaban, Kecamatan Lareh Sago Halaban, melaksanakan salah satu program kerja pengelolaan sampah berbasis ecobrick dan ekoenzim. Program ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam mengolah sampah menjadi sesuatu yang bermanfaat serta ramah lingkungan. Sampah plastik diolah menjadi ecobrick, yaitu botol plastik bekas yang diisi padat dengan sampah plastik lainnya, dan kemudian dirangkai menjadi sebuah ikon berbentuk nanas. Pemilihan bentuk nanas sebagai simbol program didasarkan pada potensi lokal, mengingat Jorong Atas Laban dikenal sebagai salah satu sentra penghasil nanas.. Sedangkan sampah organik seperti kulit buah dan sayuran difermentasi menjadi ekoenzim, yakni cairan serbaguna yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk keperluan rumah tangga dan pertanian. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan melalui sosialisasi, pelatihan, dan praktik langsung bersama warga. Peserta kegiatan terdiri dari ibu rumah tangga dan remaja yang menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi dalam mengikuti setiap tahapan. Hasil dari program ini menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat mulai mampu memilah dan mengolah sampah secara mandiri, serta memahami pentingnya menjaga kebersihan lingkungan. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini, diharapkan dapat tercipta lingkungan yang lebih sehat dan bersih serta memberikan dampak positif terhadap kebiasaan hidup masyarakat di Jorong Atas Laban. Abstract The Community Service Program (KKN) held in Jorong Atas Laban, Nagari Halaban, Lareh Sago Halaban District, raised the theme of household waste management based on ecobricks and ecoenzymes. This program aims to increase community awareness and skills in processing waste into something useful and environmentally friendly. Plastic waste is processed into ecobricks, which are used plastic bottles filled tightly with other plastic waste so that it can be reused as a simple building material. Meanwhile, organic waste such as fruit and vegetable peels is fermented into ecoenzymes, a multipurpose liquid that can be used for household and agricultural purposes. The method of implementation of the activity is carried out through socialization, training, and direct practice with residents. The participants consisted of housewives and teenagers who showed high enthusiasm in following each stage. The results of this program show that the community is starting to be able to sort and process waste independently, and understand the importance of maintaining a clean environment. With this activity, it is hoped that a healthier and cleaner environment will be created and have a positive impact on the lifestyle of the community in Jorong Atas Laban.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menyusun peta infografis lokasi fasilitas publik di Desa Rambai sebagai media informasi spasial yang komunikatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan deskriptif spasial melalui observasi lapangan, dokumentasi, dan validasi partisipatif dengan masyarakat serta perangkat desa. Data batas wilayah diperoleh dari LapakGIS tahun 2024, sedangkan pengolahan data dilakukan menggunakan ArcGIS 10.8 dengan sistem proyeksi UTM Zona 47S. Hasil penelitian berupa peta infografis skala 1:15.000 yang menampilkan persebaran fasilitas ibadah, pendidikan, kesehatan, pemerintahan, dan sosial, dilengkapi elemen kartografis dan dokumentasi visual. Analisis menunjukkan bahwa fasilitas publik cenderung terpusat pada koridor jalan utama, mengindikasikan pengaruh aksesibilitas terhadap struktur ruang desa. Peta yang dihasilkan berfungsi sebagai media komunikasi spasial yang meningkatkan keterbacaan informasi wilayah serta mendukung pelayanan publik di tingkat desa. Abstract This study aims to develop an infographic map of public facilities in Desa Rambai as a communicative spatial information medium. A descriptive spatial approach was applied through field observation, documentation, and participatory validation with local communities and village authorities. Administrative boundary data were obtained from LapakGIS (2024), and processed using ArcGIS 10.8 with the UTM Zone 47S coordinate system. The result is a 1:15,000 scale infographic map displaying the distribution of worship, education, health, government, and social facilities, supported by cartographic elements and visual documentation. The analysis indicates that public facilities are concentrated along main road corridors, highlighting the influence of accessibility on spatial structure. The map serves as a spatial communication tool that enhances information readability and supports public services at the village level.
