This article presents a part of a study conducted to develop multimedia based teaching material for Grammar 3. It aims at describing needs and problems of students in learning Grammar 3 through a descriptive study. The data were gathered from the questionnaires distributed to the students who have taken Grammar 3 course. The result of the research conveys that 1) there is a gap between the objective of Grammar 3 course and the students’ achievement in the class, 2) students get the problems in understanding Grammar 3 due to inappropriate teaching materials used in teaching and learning process, and 3) the students need a multimedia based teaching materials to improve their understanding and achievement in Grammar 3 course.Key words/phrases:teaching material development, multimedia, need analysis, Grammar 3 APAKAH MAHASISWA MEMBUTUHKAN MATERI AJAR GRAMMAR 3 BERBASIS MULTIMEDIA?AbstrakArtikel ini merupakan salah satu bagian dari rangkaian penelitian pengembangan materi ajar Grammar 3 berbasis multimedia. Penelitian deskrptif ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan masalah dan kebutuhan mahasiswa terhadap materi Grammar 3. Oleh karena itu, data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner yang disebar kepada seluruh mahasiswa yang telah mengambil mata kuliah Grammar 3. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa 1) adanya ketimpangan antara tujuan pembelajaran Grammar 3 dan kemampuan yang dikuasai mahasiswa; 2) mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami materi Grammar 3 karena kurang memadainya materi yang digunakan dalam proses belajar dan mengajar; dan 3) mahasiswa membutuhkan materi ajar berbasis multimedia yang dapat membantu meningkatkan pemahaman dan kemampuan mereka pada materi Grammar 3.Kata Kunci/frase: pengembangan materi ajar, multimedia, analisis kebutuhan, Grammar 3

The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is causing some changes in various sectors, such as education in Indonesia. All schools are required to carry out online learning. Along with online learning practices, teachers use online learning to support the teaching and learning process, such as providing learning materials and delivering learning materials by utilizing technology. This study aims to explore students' perception of English learning materials during online learning using UNP e-learning. The samples in this study were taken randomly and selected one grade K4 2019 with a total of 29 students. They were asked 27 questions to explore their perceptions of UNP's e-learning use during online learning. Descriptive quantitative was used in this study. In general, almost all students feel that the use of UNP e-learning can contribute positively to their learning. The results showed that UNP e-learning is easy to use (M = 4.41) and UNP's E-learning contributes positively to students' learning experience (M = 4.14) as the most important characteristics of effective use of UNP e-learning. Overall, stakeholder perceptions are in a good category. Although there were still some students who complained about some problems through the use of e-learning UNP.

This research was intended to analyze the most types of grammatical errors in giving explanation made by Teacher Professional Education Program Students (PPG). This research is descriptive research. It involved observing and describing the behaviour of a subject, also using the written data from teaching material of the students without influencing it in any way. The subjects of this research were 33 students from 1 class of Teacher Professional Education Program Students by using random sampling technique. The techniques of data collection were classroom observation-video recordings and written explanation from Teaching material of students. The findings of this research are the most type of grammatical errors in giving explanation made by Teacher Professional Education Program Students is omission, with 62 errors (47% of the total errors).

This research aimed to know the effect of giving feedback on student’s writing skill. This research is descriptive research. The population in this research is students of X MIA 6 and XI MIA 7. The sample was taken by using simple random sampling. There are at least 67 students that become the sample of the research. The data collected is in the form of writings before receiving pre-feedback and post-feedback. Each eleventh grade students was asked to write two giving suggestion dialogues meanwhile each tenth grade students were asked to write dialogue about advertisement and recount text. The students will be provided with feedback related to the mistakes in language structures after that the students were asked to revise their texts based on the feedback given to them. The feedbacks provided to the students are direct feedback and indirect feedback which is indirect feedback is divided into two that is coded and uncoded. From the research it is found that coded indirect feedback delivered significant effect in helping the students to improve their writing skills with proper language structure. Direct feedback, on the other hand, was helpful enough but it was not as good as coded indirect feedback. Evenmore, uncoded indirect feedback was not that influential to the students’ writings since they still committed mistakes after receiving the feedback.

This study aimed to identify, classify and explain the errors and source of error that the second grade students of MAN 2 Padang made in using preposition based on surface strategy taxonomy and Brown’s theory (2000). The instrumentation of this research is recount text. In this research, the researcher uses a qualitative descriptive method. The researcher reveals the types of errors and explains the sources of error that occurred. The result of the research shows that 144 errors occurred at the second grade students of Man 2 Padang in using preposition. The researcher found the highest percentage of type of error is misformation with total number 78 errors or 54,16%. The other finding is sources of errors which has interlingual transfer as the highest soure of error with total number 114 error or 79,16%.

The purpose of the research is to find out whether or not the PLEASE strategy is effective in the students’ ability in writing analytical exposition text at the second year of SMAN 1 Gunung Talang. This research uses a quantitative with quasi-experimental research with Pre-Test and Post-Test Control Group Design. The populations in this research were second year students’ of SMAN 1 Gunung Talang who were registered in the January-June period of the 2020/2021 school year. The research sample was 35 students of class XI IPA 1 as the experimental class and 35 students of class XI IPS 4 as the control class. The results of the analysis indicated that the mean of post-test score 85.37 was higher than the mean of pre-test score 67.23. Thus, in this research, the test scores were compared using of the t-test formula to determine the effectiveness of using PLEASE strategy ability in writing. Based on the data analysis and the results of the t-test, it was concluded that learning using PLEASE strategy was give the better effect to students ability in writing analytical exposition text at SMAN 1 Gunung Talang because tcount < ttable at a significant level of 0.05. So, it was concluded that the teaching of writing in the second year students of SMAN 1 Gunung Talang by using PLEASE strategy was better effect than without using PLEASE strategy. The purpose of this study was to find the grammatical errors made by Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) Students in giving instructions at Universitas Negeri Padang. It employed descriptive research with PPG students 2021 majoring English as the population of the research. There were 33 PPG students taken as the sample of the research selected through total sampling technique. The data were collected through video recording when the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) students teaching. The video recording was transcribed and analyzed when giving instructions. The result of the study showed the most type of errors made by Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) students in giving instructions is addition error which consisted of 42 errors or 37% of errors.

This study analyzes the translation technique of modality in hortatory text and translation accuracy of hortatory text made by the students in academic year 2017 at the English Language and Literature Department. The purpose of this research is to find out the translation techniques used in translation of modality in hortatory text and translation accuracy in translating hortatory text entitled "Defend the forest". This study was descriptive qualitative research used in analysing the technique and the accuracy in translating hortatory exposition text. The instrumentation of this research was translation test. The translating techniques found were as follows: Established equivalence (86.8%) or 243 data, variation (6.8%) or 19 data, reduction (4.3%) or 12 data, and amplification (2.2%) or 6 data. The results of this study indicate that English Language and Literature Department students use the Established equivalence technique as a technique mostly used to translate hortatory text entitled "defend the forest". For the accuracy in translating hortatory text, the average score is 2,67 that is categorized as an accurate translation.

This study analyzes the students’ ability in using noun phrases in descriptive text at SMA N 1 Rao based on structures of noun phrases by Greenbaum and Nelson and also finds out the structure that the students have the most problem with in descriptive text. The sample of this research is 32 students selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The technique of data collection was writing test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used guideline that are grouped by the structures. From the result of the test, it was found the mean of students’ ability in using noun phrases was 74,53% as a fair category. In students’ writing, the structures the students have the most problem are: determiner+pre-modifier+noun (40,32%), determiner +noun (38,93%) and determiner+pre-modifier+noun+post-modifier (37,5%)

Based on the writer’s experience, many students have difficulties in writing news item text, such as they lack of idea to write; the way of delivering ideas and vocabulary; inappropriate strategy or media when doing teaching and learning process. In order to solve these problems, an appropriate teaching technique is needed to help students improve their ability in writing news item text. This paper is aimed at explaining how to use broadcast news video in teaching writing news item text. Broadcast news video is conducted by showing the students broadcast news video with subtitle which in color. After that, the teacher asks the students to write the phrase that they watch from the video. Then the students discuss with their friends. Next, the students with the teacher help arrange their phrase into a short news item text. Finally, the students present their writing as a news anchor randomly in front of the class. The objective of this paper is to help the students and to improve students’ ability in writing news item text.
