Abstract

This research is rooted in a number of language phenomena that occur in society. The phenomena can be categorized into word shifts. The word shift occurs because of age shifts, status differences and so forth. The contents of the word will be grouped into the type and cause of the word changes in this paper. The method used is descriptive research method. The data source of this research is the young generation and the older generation in Aripan, Solok. To obtain accurate data, the process was conducted by interviewing 10 informants consisting of 5 young people and 5 older generations. From the results of the discussion, the authors found 3 types of changes that occur in these words, namely lexical change (95), sound change (4), and lexical and semantic change (1). In addition, from the discussion also found 2 factors causing the change in the words, namely language contact and spelling pronunciation.

Abstract

The focus of this research was to find the unfamiliar words of Minangkabaunese in classic Minangkabaunese Advices of “Pitaruah Ayah” by Angku Yus Dt. Parpatiah. The purposes of this research are: (1) To find the unfamiliar words for Minangkabaunese young generations in classic Minangkabaunese advices entitled “Pitaruah Ayah”by Angku Yus Dt. Parpatiah (2) To find the meaning of the unfamiliar words (3) To find the class of words of the unfamiliar words. This research was concern to find the current status of several words in Minangkabaunese which possible to become unfamiliar for its young generations through sampling processes in the district of Nanggalo Kota Padang. From the research 88 unfamiliar words of Miangkabauese were found in classic Minangkabaunese Advices of “Pitaruah Ayah” by Angku Yus Dt. Parpatiah. The most dominant class of words of the unfamiliar words of Minangkabaunese is noun amounted 40.9% of the data. And 48 % of the unfamiliar words were not found in the dictionaries of Minangkabaunese to Indonesian language. Several factors influence the occurrence of the unfamiliar words  such as (1) language change of Minangkabaunese (2) The language interference of Indonesian language.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was (1) to identify the lexical differences of Tebing Tinggi sub-dialect in Dharmasraya compared to the standard Minangkabaunese (2) to identify the lexical similarities between Tebing Tinggi sub-dialect and the standard Minangkabaunese. In this paper the researcher used descriptive method; it is possible to compare two dialects so that we can found the differences, the uniqueness of lexical changes, and the vocabulary similarities. From the research that has been done, the researcher used 127 sample data to see the lexical differences and similarities that exist in Tebing Tinggi sub-dialect compared to the standard Minangkabaunese. From the sample the researcher found that Tebing Tinggi sub-dialect often use phoneme /o/ at the first syllable of the word compared to the standard Minangkabaunese that often use phoneme /a/, phoneme /r/ in the standard Minangkabaunese changes to /w/ and /y/ in the middle of the word, and phoneme /a/ changes to /au/ and /iu/ at the end of the word; and from the sample data the researcher also found the similarities in some vocabulary used by Tebing Tinggi sub-dialect and the standard Minangkabaunese. From this paper the researcher hope that this paper can be useful in learning as an additional knowledge in learning Dialectology.

Abstract

This research purposed to analyse the type of word formation process used in advertisement boards. Sources of data obtained from advertisement boards in Padang City. Based on analysis of the data the researcher found advertisement categories that have word formation process that are smartphone, name of shop/company, funiture, course/education institutional, cigarette, event, and job vacancy. From all these categories the researcher classify word formation process into twelve types. The researcher found blending (7%), compounding (15%), borrowing (9%), coinage (9%), initialization (11%), acronym (4%), clipping (15%), back formation (5%), inflection (11%), derivation (7%), onomatopoeia (2%), cliticization (5%). The result of this research indicate advertisement category that many found in advertisment boards in Padang city is name of shop/company. And the advertisement category that rarely found in advertisment boards in Padang city is job vacancy. In addition, based on analysis of the data show that compounding and inflection are types that many used in advertisment boards in Padang city. And type that rarely used in advetisement boards is onomatopoeia.

Abstract

Today, many young people do not understand the words used by the older generation, so a lot of misunderstandings happen when older generation talking using the words this all happened because there is shift words used by young generation. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to find the words that are no longer used by the younger generation in Koto Nan Ampek Payakumbuh and writer wanted to know what factors that cause these shift words. In writing this paper, the author was helped by several informants who can provide information about the words that no longer used by the younger generation in daily conversation. Then the authors classify the data according to the words classes. The shift words are lost because it was no longer use, this caused by several factors such as social factors, economic factors, political factors, demographic factors and attitude and value.
