Abstract

Reading Comprehension is the ability to read text, process it and understand the meaning. It relies on two, interconnected abilities: Word reading be able to decode the symbols on the page and language comprehension being able to understand the meaning of words and sentences . In fact, students generally feel bored and unmotivated in learning English especially in reading skill because English is different from Indonesian so that the students have difficulty in understanding reading English text. They do not know the meaning of some words in the text. Therefore, the teacher’s role becomes important in the teaching and learning process especially in teaching reading. Therefore, appropriate media should be chosen to motivate their students not only to read the text but also comprehend what they read. One of the media that can be used and applied by the teacher is Composite Pictures. A Composite Picture is a large single picture which shows a scene in which a number of people can be seen doing several things. Thus, to know whether or not there was a significant effect of using Composite Pictures on reading comprehension achievement; Composite Pictures was used as media in teaching reading in this research.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and examine the magnitude of the relationship between parental education patterns and learning motivation of third grade students at SD Negeri 100760 Bargottopong Jae, Paluta Regency. This research includes qualitative research. This study used a sample of 6 third grade students of SD Negeri Bargottopong Jae. The data collection used using the methods of observation, interviews and documents. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. The results showed that there were differences in parenting applied by parents. The application of democratic parenting is mostly applied by parents, then authoritarian and permissive parenting. There are 4 parents who apply democratic parenting, 1 parent with authoritarian parenting and 1 parent with permissive parenting. Students with authoritarian and democratic parenting have good and sufficient motivation to learn. Meanwhile, students with permissive parenting have less motivation. Based on the research, it can be concluded that parenting and parental participation have an effect on students' learning motivation.

Abstract

Penyalahgunaan narkoba saat ini sangat meresahkan, karena hamper semua lapisan sudah banyak yang terjerat dalam tindakan pidana ini. Khusus dukalan pelajar penyalahgunaan narkoba tentu sangat memprihatinkan. Narkoba adalah bahan/zat yang jika dimasukan dalam tubuh dapat mengubah pikiran, dan perilaku seseorang. Survei BNN menyatakan bahwa prevalensi penyalahgunaan narkoba di kalangan remaja Indonesia adalah sebesar 4,3% pernah memakai narkoba, 2,9% memakai dalam kurun waktu satu tahun, dan 2,5% memakai dalam satu bulan terakhir. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman siswa tentang jenis dan bahaya narkoba serta penanggulangannya. Pengabdian ini dilaksanakan pada hari Senin, 23 Desember 2019 di SMA  Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan Kabupaten Deli serdang. Metode pelaksanaan dalam bentuk ceramah dan diskusi/tanya jawab. Peserta dalam kegiatan ini adalah siswa kelas X dan XI berjumlah 70 orang. Pelaksanaan kegiatan dibiayai sendiri oleh pelaksana. Kegiatan pengabdian ini terlaksana dengan baik dan mendapatkan respon yang positif, sehingga tujuan yang diharapkan dapat tercapai. Sebesar 85% siswa menjadi tahu dan paham dengan materi sosialisasi. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai kuis online menggunakan Software Quizizz. Kedepannya kegiatan pengabdian ini dapat dilaksanakan secara kontinyu, baik di tempat yang sama maupun ditempat lainnya
