Abstract

Major changes in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have made lecturers need to come up with an idea of bringing it into the classroom. Indeed, lecturers may not just neglect the impact of new technologies and fail to incorporate them in their teaching practice. One big evolution in classroom technology has been in the development of using webtools for teaching writing. Storybird; a website 2.0 tool, is an excellent new media for teaching narrative writing. It will not only highly motivate the students to write in English and other languages but also it gives an opportunity for the students to control their learning experiences by means of technology device. Beside Storybird can be easily accessed by the students using their netbook, smartphones, or other devices. Thus, this paper deals with the use of Storybird in teaching narrative writing.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of internal factors such as financing and third-party funds, as well as external factors including inflation, BI, and exchange rate against Return On Asset (ROA) at Indonesian Foreign Exchange Sharia Bank. Furthermore, the library research was used and quantitatively described. Also, using the total sampling technique, the research team obtained six sample banks, namely Bank Mega Syariah, Muamalat Indonesia, Panin Dubai Syariah, BNI Syariah, BRI Syariah, and Bank Syariah Mandiri. The data include Balance Sheet and Profit, Loss Financial Statements, as well as the published reports on inflation, BI, or exchange rates obtained in a quarterly period from 2015 to 2019. According to the F-test, there was a significant influence between the independent variables (Financing, Third Party Funds, Inflation, BI, and Exchange Rates) on the dependent (ROA). Meanwhile, the t-test showed there was no significant effect of partial financing, Third Party Funds, BI rate (X ), and Kurs (X ) on the ROA. Therefore, this study showed there was an increase in ROA because the society involves in financing due to high inflation.

Abstract

This research is aimed at finding whether demonstration method could enhance students’ ability in conducting underhand services at mini volley ball and how it is viewed in gender differences. The research design was a classroom action research by using two cycles at the fourth grade of  SDN 20 Bungo Tanjung. The research result shows that there is an improvement on students’ underhand serves ability in applying demonstrastion method for about 23,8%. Cyle 1 is 66,7 % while at cycle 2 is 90,5%. Meanwhile for gender differences, male students are much better than female students in conducting underhand serves. In short, the use of demonstration method can enhance students’ ability in doing underhand serves.

Abstract

The problem lied on foreign language writing anxiety suffered by the fourth semester students of English Education program of IAIN Batusangkar. They might get this for they were less familiar with argumentative course. Besides, there were some indicators that they had FLWA during teaching and learning process in the classroom like put off completing the assignment, as a result they prefer to be absent on the due date of submitted assignment, a fear of not getting a good idea to start the essay, or not creating a “good enough” essay, and so forth. The research was aimed at analyzing students’ level, types, causes and coping strategies to alleviate FLWA. The design of the research was mix method research. In conducting the research, the researchers used three kinds of questionnaires. The first questionnaire is used for analyzing students’ level and type of FLWA, the second questionnaires is used for analyzing students’ causes of FLWA, the third questionnaires is used for analyzing the strategies to alleviate FLWA suffered by the students. Then the researchers also used interview to clarify unclear information of the third questionnaires. The researchers analyzed the data quantitatively and qualitatively. At the end, the findings showed that the students’ level of FLWA was in high level (62%) and moderate level (38%). The students also suffered somatic anxiety (mean score 23, 10), Cognitive anxiety (22,16), and Avoidance behavior (22, 29%). There 53 causes of FLWA had by students. There are several strategies used by students to alleviate FLWA like cognitive strategies, metacognitive strategies, social strategies, compensation strategies, and so forth.

Abstract

Writing well is not just an option for young people – it is necessary. They need writing skill as one of predicator of academic success and a basic requirement for participation in civic life. Seeing writing skill as one of  important skill to be a well comprehended by young people, include students, writing appears as nightmare for struggling writers. Likewise, they often waste most of their time just for starting to write. This paper is intended to  find out the students’ ability in writing paragraph of argumentative essay particularly in writing the introductory paragraph, general statements and thesis statement.Key Words: Ability, Introductory Paragraph, Argumentative Essay
