Abstract

Meningkatnya popularitas produk pertanian organik di kalangan konsumen perkotaan Indonesia akhir-akhir ini tidak membuat sistem pertanian organik diterapkan secara luas di negara kita. Hanya 0,6% dari total lahan pertanian yang ditanami dengan sistem organik. Harga produk organik yang lebih mahal serta makin tingginya permintaan pasar belum menjadi insentif bagi para petani untuk beralih dari pertanian konvenstional ke sistem pertanian organik. Penelitian ini bertujuan membandingkan viabilitas antara pertanian organik danh pertanian konvensional. Hasil wawancara dengan responden yang tersebar di beberapa kabupaten di Jawa Barat menunjukkan bahwa dalam jangka panjang pertanian organik memberikan hasil finansial yang lebih besar daripada hasil yang didapat dari pertanian konvensional; tetapi dalam jangka pendek yang terjadi adalah sebaliknya: hasil finansial pertanian konvensional lebih besar dibandingkan dengan pertanian organik.Kata kunci: pertanian organik, pertanian konvensional, Revolusi Hijau, pertanian berkelanjutan, Indonesia.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan oleh dosen-dosen di Program Studi Ekonomi Pembangunan (Prodi EP) Fakultas Ekonomi (FE) Unpar melalui wadah Center for Economic Studies (CES) memiliki tujuan utama membangun keterkaitan ekonomi antara wilayah perkotaan (urban economy) dan wilayah pedesaan (rural economy),baik di sektor riil maupun sektor keuangan. Pengembangan Pertanian Organik yang dilakukan oleh beberapa dosen Prodi EP, sebagai bagian dari kegiatan pengabdian kepadamasyarakat tersebut, menitikberatkan pengembangan sektor riil masyarakat di wilayah pedesaan, yang mayoritas penduduknya memiliki mata pencaharian di bidang pertanian. Dengan demikian, berkembangnya sektor pertanian diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kondisi sosial ekonomi penduduk di wilayah pedesaan.Pengembangan pertanian organik sebagai program pengabdian kepada masyarakat Prodi EP FE Unpar mulai dilakukan pada tahun 2012, dan berkelanjutan sampai tahun 2014 ini. Pada tahun 2014, pengembangan pertanian organik memiliki target: makin berkembangnya jaringan pemasaran produk organikyang dihasilkan petani, meningkatnya pengetahuan cara bertanam organis dan makin berfungsinya paguyuban petani organik (yang dibentuk pada Mei 2013 yang lalu). Untuk mencapai target tersebut, direncanakan akan dicapai lewat beberapa pelatihan teknis (seperti: pelatihan membuat kompos/MOLdan pelatihan dalam pemuliaan benih) dan penyelenggaraan pertemuan petani (Forum Sarasehan Petani). Dalam hal memperluas jaringan pemasaran, disusun rencana untukmembangun jaringan pemasaran produk organik yang dimulai dari kampus Unpar.

Abstract

Research Originality: This study uniquely examines the relationship between baby milk consumption and stunting rates in Indonesia using a two-stage least squares (2SLS) approach. It fills a gap in understanding why Indonesian consumers prefer sweetened condensed milk over baby formula, despite the increasing prevalence of stunting, offering new insights into the economic and educational factors influencing milk consumption.Research Objectives: To investigate the factors that influence baby milk consumption in Indonesia, such as milk prices, education levels, and population size. Also, to assess the impact of baby milk consumption on stunting rates among Indonesian children.Research Methods: The research uses an econometric approach, specifically two-stage least squares (2SLS) regression, analyzing data from 2005 to 2022.Empirical Results: The results indicate that baby milk consumption is significantly affected by milk prices, education levels, and population size. Interestingly, the study finds that higher consumption of baby milk is correlated with an increase in stunting rates.Implications: The findings suggest a need for greater parental awareness regarding the nutritional value of baby milk and potential policy interventions to regulate milk quality. Additionally, the results highlight the importance of educational campaigns to improve milk consumption behaviors and further research on the nutritional content of available baby milk products to address the stunting problem effectively.JEL Classification: D11, I15, O13, Q18, R22
