Abstract

Students’ active learning is a process which isaffected students’ comprehension and ability in term tasks and activities. Consequently, the aim of this study was to dispose the activity of bidik misi’s students of mathematics education in Syiah Kuala University. The population of this study were chosen based on GPA (Grade Point Average) all of bidik misi’s students at mathematics’ education in Syiah Kuala University. The sample was collected by purposive sampling. Purposive sampling was used because there was one class that has the highest number of bidik misi’s students. Besides the students in the force of 2015 has been following several courses so to see the activity that was analyzed based on GPA more efficiently done on that class. Accordingly, ten studentswereselected as sample. Data collection was obtained by observation and interview. The observation was used to identify student’s active learning in class. The interview which was employed to identify the causing of students active learning was done after the observation. In teaching learning process, there were several bidik misi's students is active, howeverthere were several bidik misi's students is not active. it was caused some factors such asstudents’ motivation influenceand students’ environment influence. Keywords: active learning process, learning outcomes, GPA.

Abstract

Creativity could be interpreted as a person's cognitive abilities in solving problems by bringing up new ideas. The students’ math inadequate achievement is motivated by the fact that math presented as finished product, ready to use, abstract and taught mechanistic. This case can be lead to the creativity of the less developed students because students are not given the opportunity to think and use their ideas in solving mathematical problems. Problem Based Learning Model is a learning model that emphasizes the concept and information outlined from the academic discipline. The purpose of this study is to analyzed students’ creativity in solving mathematical problems through Problem Based Learning model (PBL) in class VIII-1 MTsN Model Banda Aceh. Data were gained based on the students’ worksheet in groups. The data acquisition is categorized into 5 levels (4 as the highest level and 0 as the lowest level) which is analyzed descriptively. The results show that three groups were at level 4 with very creative category, one group is at level 3 with creative category and the other group is at level 2 with deeply creative enough category. To conclude, PBL model could increase the students’ creativity in solving mathematical problems.          Keywords: mathematical creativity, problem based learning.

Abstract

Learning math is like training logical thinking, intelligence, focus and also systematics. One of the most important materials in math is Pythagorean Theorem. It is used in many aspects of life and helps us to solve daily problems. However, many students still cannot use it we even they have learned it. The aim of this study research is to describe the students’ learning ability process through discovery learning model using GeoGebrasoftware on Pythagorean Theorem. The subjects of this study were the students of SMP Negeri 6 Banda Aceh 29 students of grade VIII-8. The data which was analyzed is formed tasks which were done in groups and video analysis. The results of study showed that the students are able to accomplish worksheet through GeoGebra assistedand all of them are able to take conclusion symbolically yet not by using their own words. The first group was failed to count third area but they succeeded on counting other areas which lead them to the right conclusion. The second group’s fault was on naming a square particularly on its third area however they were better taking the right conclusion. The obstacles of learning process were (1) limitation of time, (2) only some students practice using GeoGebra software, (3) laptops used were slow and not responding, (4) even the student did not understand the beginning explanations.  Keywords:     learning, discovery learning model, GeoGebra software, Pythagorean Theorem.

Abstract

Reading, interpreting and constructing graphs are important skills for junior high school students. The graph as a mathematical expression is important as graphs can represent or summarize data and communicate data for easy interpretation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the errors that occur in students in solving the word in class VIII-1 MTsN Model Banda Aceh. Data were obtained based on test of 36 students and continued by interview of five students. Based on the results of data analysis found that students’ make mistakes in solving word problem related to the graphs in either understanding or reading graphs or drawing graphs. Keywords:error analysis, word problem, graph.

Abstract

Students have difficulties in learning statistics. For example, students are difficult to solve problem related to reciting data from bar charts, calculate the mean value, and make a pie chart. One of the causes is statistics seldom connected with real-world applications, whereas students should be learning statistics in a real activity-based learning environment. PjBL (Project Based Learning) is a model of learning that integrates new knowledge based on experience in real activity and an in-depth investigation of a real-world topic. The purpose of this study was to describe the students’ project task answers and constraints through the implementation of PjBL. Subjects in this study were 29 students of class IX-5 SMPN 6 Banda Aceh. The data analyzed were students’ project task answers worked in groups and videos. The results showed that 2 of 5 groups could think of useful data that they can gather around them. As they displayed the collected data, all groups chose bar chart. No one group displayed data using pie chart. Furthermore, in interpreting their data, nevertheless 2 of 5 groups could interpret the data well. Moreover, there were students who were less active and less cooperative in the group, however there were students who were usually less active, but they could cooperate in group when researcher implemented the PjBL. When students presented project task, there was student who memorized the project task, so that when he forgot what he must presented, he spontaneously asked his group members what he had not delivered at the presentation. Keywords:learning process, statistics, project based learning.
