Abstract

SIMULATION OF IRON CORROSION IN LEAD-MAGNESIUM EUTECTIC (LME) USING OXYGEN INHIBITOR. Lead-magnesium (Pb-Mg) is a metal that considered to have potential as a coolant raw material in the heat transfer system of nuclear reactors. However, the coolant in the form of Pb-Mg eutectic is corrosive to structured materials (eg steel cladding) used in reactors. In this research, steel material is represented by pure iron to simplify the simulation and calculation. This research aims to determine the effect of temperature on iron corrosion and the effect of adding oxygen as an inhibitor to reduce the iron corrosion rate in LME. In this study, corrosion was observed by looking at (coefficient) the diffusion of iron atoms into LME. A large iron diffusion coefficient represents high iron corrosion. To see inhibition effectivity with oxygen, the most effective oxygen concentration that can reduce the iron diffusion coefficient is searched. Simulations of iron corrosion and inhibition are performed using molecular dynamics simulation. The result of this research showed that oxygen concentration mixed into LME for effective inhibition of iron corrosion was in the range of 0.125 wt% - 0.135 wt% (for temperatures of 973K). Thus, oxygen is believed that able to inhibit iron corrosion in Pb-Mg eutectic up to 98.44%

Abstract

Data security is very important data needed to stay awake in strict confidence from hacker intrusion or criminals who want to steal the data. Data security methods that are used in this paper is a digital image encryption by using a modified Hill’s code which is done by changing the way of encryption. If we are using Hill’s code then matrix pixel multiplied is the key matrix while on the modification Hill’s code before the key matrix then the matrix is multiplied pixels must be added to the results of the main diagonal elements of the matrix times key. The results obtained in the process of digital image encoding indicating that the image is encoded with password modification results of modified Hill's code more mixed reviews when compared to the image that was encoded with password Hill so that more effective in securing data in the form of a digital image. The size of the image file using the encoding results in a modification password Hill is smaller than ordinary password Hill with a percentage decrease of 4.6 % so more ease in delivery through electronic media Keyword: Digital image, modified Hill code, encryption, description

Abstract

We have developed a model for friction in a dry granular material, that allows multiple reversible transitions between stick and slipcontacts. The ultimate purpose of the model is to simulatedeposition processes. During these processes a pile structure isformed that is repeatedly destabilised by addition of new material. The present model does not yet include rotation. The model is testedfor a few simple systems. Finally we perform more extensive granulardynamics simulations using the model for 2D and 3D systems. In eachsystem, a steady flow of material is dropped onto a rough surface.DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.22342/jims.13.2.83.173-189

Abstract

The public awareness of environmental management and responsibility for production and consumption of food has increased, leading our collaborators in society to process food waste into organic fertilizer. Food waste management, especially kitchen waste, is a major focus in developing countries due to urban development and an equal attentiveness to environmental sustainability. Turning kitchen waste into organic fertilizer is a solution that is simple, cost-effective, eco-friendly and can be further enhanced by the addition of local microorganisms (MOL). However, the process of producing MOL-enhanced organic fertilizer is still not widely known. In this paper, the organic fertilizer was produced by the decomposition of kitchen waste enhanced by MOL. A non-MOL-enhanced fertilizer was also procured for control. Both of the obtained fertilizers were assessed for parameters such as pH, C:N ratio, and other organic content. The results proved that MOL-enhanced organic fertilizer is more effective than organic fertilizer made by natural decomposition alone. Abstract
