Abstract

Elderly care is one solution to entrust parents, especially elderly people. However, the name of the nursing home itself is often viewed negatively by the community. Placing elderly people in nursing homes is deemed inappropriate because a child is considered unable to take care of his parents, even though they do it without reason. Along with the development of the times, a child's habit of caring for his parents is increasingly rare, due to a lot of busyness. In addition, it is not uncommon for the elderly to be entrusted to the place at their own discretion. For the elderly, they can be paid more attention to in nursing homes and can socialize with people of their age. This interior design aims to eradicate the stigma of the community towards the Elderly Care itself, which is able to provide optimal service to the elderly including physical, mental, and social development, as well as fulfilling all the needs of the elderly, especially those who get less attention from their own families. This elderly care is designed to provide comfort for the elderly by applying universal designs to their interiors, and also ergonomic furniture. Then it can be useful for many people, especially for the elderly in carrying out their daily activities and their life.

Abstract

Public library is a public facility provided by the government to educate society in literacy through reading. In fact, literacy rating and reading interest of many people is relatively low, especially in Surabaya. The unattractive interior library becomes one of the causes of those issues. The purpose of this library design is to emphasize the recreational function of a library. Besides increasing people reading interest, a new library design can be a place for people relieving and relaxing. The design methods adapt three stages of design thinking: inspiration, ideation, and implementation. The first stage, inspiration (emphasize, observe and POV), is a basic method that employs emphatic-design approach, where designer acts as a library user, looking at the problems from user’s point of view. The Ideation stage (ideate, prototype, test, and research) is the stage for the design development. The final stage, implementation,  is the final execution of the design in various media and platforms. The design result is a public library as ‘reading park’, which incorporate natural elements into the interior space and make the library as a fun place to visit. Therefore, the public library can run it function as educational and recreational facilities, and increase the reading and literacy interest in society.

Abstract

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is an aspect that greatly affects the health and comfort of room users. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is influenced by physical factors (temperature, air humidity and air velocity) and chemical factors in the form of substances such as HCHO and TVOC in the air. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) has actually been applied since a long time ago in traditional buildings such as Baileo . The study used a comparative quantitative method on Baileo in the mountainous area with the aim of reviewing and comparing Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) on Baileo and building formations to materials used as references in future designs. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in mountain Baileo in West Seram is good where temperature, air humidity, air velocity and TVOC and HCHO substances in the room do not exceed the threshold value (NAB) which adversely affects the health and safety of room users.
