Abstract

Kenjeran Park is one of the important historical landmark in East Java. However, the facilities has deterioriated over the years causing it to lose its appeal as a tourist destination, which is a shame as it is a place that carries a significant historical values. This design project is done with the aim of creating product ideas which will replace the existing facilities in Kenjeran Park. The main focus of the design will be comfort and durability in order to restore the people perception of the location and preserve its status as a cultural icon. The issue in Kenjeran Park mainly stems from the material used in the interior product design. Most of the products are made from plastic hence, it is unable to withstand the deterioriation caused by nature and also lack the aesthetic appeal as it is mainly geared towards mass production. Problems that exist in Kenjeran Park is because the existing interior products are plastic-based products where the products are made from plastic material can not stand the weather especially if placed in Kenjeran Park which is a beach area where the air is corrosive. Also, this design will also draw inspiration from the lifestyle of the people in that area creating a design which has variety and also aesthetically pleasing. Hence while innovating in terms of material that is being used to tackle the existing problem, it also helps showcase the cultural values of the area by drawing inspiration from them. Therefore, this design project can hopefully assist in government effort in redeveloping the area.

Abstract

Indonesia is the biggest coconut producing country in the world. The number of coconut fibers produced in Indonesia for a year can reach 18 million tons, but only 3% is used. This research aims to expand the use of coconut fiber material. The purpose of this research is to utilize existing materials to be more utilized. Moreover, this research also aims to produce environmentally friendly materials in order to reduce the use of synthetic materials. This research is an experimental method to find suitable treatment and material using coconut fiber. The variables involved in this study relate to things such as adhesive types, fiber sizes, and thickness of finished material. The adhesives used are ecofriendly adhesives, so they won’t damage the nature at the time of production nor at the time of disposal. From this study, it was found that by using a mixture of starch glue with short coconut fibers, the results were the strongest and has the most density among the other experiments. The results of this study indicate that the material produced with a mixture of starch and coconut fibers has advantages in terms of weight, strength, flexibility, as well as bumps and fire resistance. Therefore, other than used as floor material, this material can also be used as wall and ceiling panel as well.

Abstract

In this time multifunction furniture is one of many furniture that mostly used by people, especially on small places. In studio type apartment that have some narrow space trouble because of too much furniture being used, utilization of multifunction furniture can solve that trouble. The purpose of this designing is to make multifunction furniture that can be use for some user activity and efficient for user circulation (moving space). Designing method that will be used start from interview and survey then do some observation at once in studio type apartment, then do programming that find out problem and solution to solve that problem along with making design concept. Then do some design development, making many alternative sketchs according to concpet that have been made. Design development will end when one design that called final design choosen to make design drawing of that design until enter to the state of making 1:1 protoype. The final result that obtained is multifunction furniture prototype with 1:1 scale that can be used in studio type apartment for real and solve full space because of too much furnitures problem and narrowness of circulation (moving space) of the apartment user.

The abundant availability is caused by beef being considered one of the main commodities. Through this fact, the researcher wants to explore the potential of cow bones which can provide aesthetic values and is potential to be developed. By using the experimental research method that starts from formulating problems until the implementation stage which consists of dependent variables which are cow bones, along with the independent variables which are durability tests, adhesive power, and odor dissipating media. The final result is a wall panel which presents the utilization of color gradations, textures, and also some compositions of other types of materials.
