Abstract

his research was conducted to improve students‟ listening competence byusing Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method. The aims of conducting thisresearch were as follows: (1) improving students‟ listening competence through CTL;(2) finding the students‟ interest improvement on their listening by using CTL; (3)finding the improvement of the students‟ listening competence by using CTL. TheClassroom Action Research was used by the researcher in conducting this research.Furthermore, the pre-test, treatments, and post-test were given to find the students‟listening improvement in learning using CTL.The result of the research showed thatCTL could improve the students‟ listening competence. It could be seen from theaverage scores in the pre-test and post-test. The average score of students in the pretestwas about fifty six point two. Meanwhile, the average score in the first post-test andsecond post-test were seventy two point five and eighty point six. The result of thestudents‟ average score showed the improvement in their listening achievement by byusing CTL. The students‟ interest improved through the students‟ active contributionduring the learning processes which was measured by using scoring rubric of“metacognitive rubric motivation”. Therefore, it can be concluded that CTL is effectiveto teach listening to the students. In short, the method can be used by the teacher as analternative to teach listening. Keywords: Classroom Action Research, CTL, Listening, Method, Motivation

Abstract

AbstractThe research aimed at designing English Learning Interactive Multimedia (ELIM) in SMAN 1 Sedayu based on the 2013 Curriculum. This was Research and Development (R&D) study using ADDIE model. There were five stages in conducting the research; (1) Analysis; (2) Design; (3) Development; (4) Implementation; (5) Evaluation. This research involved 32 students of grade tenth of SMAN 1 Sedayu. To gain the Needs Analysis (NA), the researcher used observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. This researcher found a learning software program namely English Learning Interactive Multimedia (ELIM) based on the 2013 curriculum. It consists of two unit materials; ‘Malin Kundang’, and ‘Let Us Sing a Song’. Abstract

AbstractThere were many students who had problem in comprehending the text. Based on the problem, this research aimed at finding out :(1) the procedures to improve students’ reading skill using Quantum Learning (QL); (2) the students’ interest in their learning reading using QL; (3) the students’ improvement in comprehending the texts using QL. This research involved 32 students of class VII C of SMPN 1 Seyegan. The researcher used pre-test and post- test to analyse the students’ improvement. It was found that the students’ average score in pre-test was 52,7, and the first post-test was 67,4. The second post-test was 89,8. It means that the post-test was higher than pre-test. Besides, the students also had been well motivated during the learning process. In conclusion, the findings of this research showed that the QL could improve the students’ reading skill. Hence, she suggested to use QL as an alternative method in improving the students’ reading skill.

Abstract

The objectives of the study are to find out the ability of the students in writing descriptive text both before and after the treatment either at control group or experiment group; to find out the effectiveness of Interactive Media for teaching writing descriptive text; to find out what writing elements that received significant improvement after being taught by Interactive Media. This research was conducted using experimental study to overcome students’ problem in learning English especially writing skill. The researcher used two classes as the subject: XI MIPA-1 as the experiment group and XI MIPA-4 as control group. Those MIPA classes belong to Argo Mulyo High School /SMA N 1 Sedayu, Argomulyo, Bantul. The experimental class was taught the descriptive text by using Interactive Media in the form of Macromedia Flash while control groupwas taught by using non-computer based lessons. Total sample of both classes were 60 students. The research was conducted within quasi-experiment study which used pre-post tests design of experiment and control groups. The researcher used this method in order to find out whether computer-based instruction/Interactive Media could make significant improvement on the students’ descriptive writing skill. Such effectiveness was seen from difference of means between pre-post of both control and experiment groups and its t-test score at the degree of significancy. The t-test was higher than the t-table, Interactive Media then was proved significancy in improving the students’ writing descriptive text skill. The students’ writing was analyzed and scored based on rubrics postulated by Brown and Bailey including paragraph organization, its content, language structure, vocabulary and mechanics. The experiment shows that the t-test was (3.16) which is higher than t-table (2.000). The aspects of wtiting that has significant improvement were content, organization, structure, vocabulary - means pre-test of experimental group = 76.5 and control group = 70.8 increased into, experimental group = 87.22 and control group = 78.8 during post test with standard deviation of experimental group = 7.7 and control group = 9.97. Since there was a significant improvement of students’ writing skill by using Interactive Media, this research then confirms that Interactive Media is effective for teaching writing at SMA level.

Abstract

This study aimed at producing media that contain the "ComicQu" application as media. This type of research is R&D (Research and Development) using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) model. In the process of collecting data, several instruments such as interviews, observation, documentation, questionnaires, and tests were employed. The obtained data were analyzed both descriptively and statistically. This research product consisted of a smartphone application with 3 quiz parts and contains 10 questions for each section. Twenty students of the 8th Graders of a State Junior High School in Yogyakarta were involved as the participants. The study revealed that the designed product was appropriate to use as an alternative media for: 1) The product was designed based on the Needs Analysis results; 2) Results on Md (Mean Difference) computation between the average scores of pre-and posttest on the learners’ reading-writing skills showed Md = 78,2 > 63,2 which was considered significantly higher than the demanded school’s KKM (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum) or the Minimum Criteria of Learners’ learning Mastery; 3) Expert Judgement also revealed coefficient scores respectively 98.34 from the ELT expert and 78.75 from the IT expert. Thus, it can be concluded that "ComicQu" is appropriately to use as an alternative media to improve the learners’ reading-writing skills of English particularly at the understudied class.

Abstract

This study is aimed to help students in learning integrated listening-speaking skills by developing flash card as teaching media. It is found that they are not supported by appropriate media and causes their motivation and competence seem to be stagnant. It is also found that there are some weaknesses on the old media. Start from the design that is not up to date and seems not so interesting fro the students. Then the materials of the media that are assumed as fragile because it is made of paper. The size of the media that is seen as too small and the procedure of the use that sometimes made teachers find difficulties to use it. Regarding to those findings, this research goes further to design the new media in order to solve those problems. This research adopted Research and Development (R&D) with ADDIE model. After implementation, it is found that the product has development and some strength that can be beneficial for the users.
