This study aim was to identify the difficulties of junior high school science teachers in planning and implementing the assessment. The sample were 30 junior high school science teachers in Tanjungkarang Pusat dan Tanjung Senang on the academic year of 2016/2017that were selected by non probability sampling technique. This research design was descriptive. Data of the difficulties of science teachers in planning and implementing the assessment were from questionnaire and interviews of the teachers that were analyze descriptively. The results showed that the average of the difficulty in planning assessment was low (35,70%) and difficulty in implementing the assessment was sufficient (40,74%). The highest indicator of difficulty in planning the assessment was creating indicators of achievement competency. While the highest indicator of difficulty in implementing the assessment was psychomotor domain, especially on observing the aspect to be assessed and set time allocation.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesulitan guru IPA SMP dalam merencanakan dan melaksanakan asesmen. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 30 guru IPA di SMP se-Kecamatan Tanjungkarang Pusat dan Tanjung Senang ajaran 2016/2017 yang dipilih dengan teknik sampling non probability. Desain penelitian adalah desain deskriptif. Data kesulitan guru dalam merencanakan dan melaksanakan asesmen diperoleh dari hasil angket dan wawancara pada guru yang dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata kesulitan yang dialami guru dalam merencanakan asesmen berkriteria rendah (35,70%) dan kesulitan dalam melaksanakan asesmen memiliki kriteria cukup (40,74%). Indikator kesulitan dengan rerata persentase tertinggi dalam merencanakan asesmen yaitu dalam membuat indikator pencapaian kompetensi. Sementara dalam melaksanakan asesmen yaitu pada ranah psikomotorik, khususnya dalam mengamati aspek yang dinilai dan optimalisasi alokasi waktu.Kata kunci: asesmen, guru IPA, kesulitan, melaksanakan, merencanakan
